¹ H1121And the childrenH3478of IsraelH5265set forward[H8799] H2583, and pitched[H8799] H6160in the plainsH4124of MoabH5676on this sideH3383JordanH3405by Jericho.

² H1111And BalakH1121the sonH6834of ZipporH7200saw[H8799] H3478all that IsraelH6213had done[H8804] H567to the Amorites.

³ H4124And MoabH3966was soreH1481afraid[H8799] H6440ofH5971the peopleH7227, because they were manyH4124: and MoabH6973was distressed[H8799] H6440because ofH1121the childrenH3478of Israel.

⁴ H4124And MoabH559said[H8799] H2205unto the eldersH4080of MidianH6951, Now shall this companyH3897lick up[H8762] H5439all that are round aboutH7794us, as the oxH3897licketh up[H8800] H3418the grassH7704of the fieldH1111. And BalakH1121the sonH6834of ZipporH4428was kingH4124of the MoabitesH6256at that time.

⁵ H7971He sent[H8799] H4397messengersH1109therefore unto BalaamH1121the sonH1160of BeorH6604to PethorH5104, which is by the riverH776of the landH1121of the childrenH5971of his peopleH7121, to call[H8800] H559him, saying[H8800] H5971, Behold, there is a peopleH3318come out[H8804] H4714from EgyptH3680: behold, they cover[H8765] H5869the faceH776of the earthH3427, and they abide[H8802] H4136over against me:

⁶ H3212Come[H8798] H779now therefore, I pray thee, curse[H8798] H5971me this peopleH6099; for they are too mightyH3201for me: peradventure I shall prevail[H8799] H5221, that we may smite[H8686] H1644them, and that I may drive them out[H8762] H776of the landH3045: for I wot[H8804] H1288that he whom thou blessest[H8762] H1288is blessed[H8794] H779, and he whom thou cursest[H8799] H779is cursed[H8714] .

⁷ H2205And the eldersH4124of MoabH2205and the eldersH4080of MidianH3212departed[H8799] H7081with the rewards of divinationH3027in their handH935; and they came[H8799] H1109unto BalaamH1696, and spake[H8762] H1697unto him the wordsH1111of Balak.

⁸ H559And he said[H8799] H3885unto them, Lodge[H8798] H3915here this nightH7725, and I will bringH1697you wordH7725again[H8689] H3068, as the LORDH1696shall speak[H8762] H8269unto me: and the princesH4124of MoabH3427abode[H8799] H1109with Balaam.

⁹ H430And GodH935came[H8799] H1109unto BalaamH559, and said[H8799] H582, What men are these with thee?

¹⁰ H1109And BalaamH559said[H8799] H430unto GodH1111, BalakH1121the sonH6834of ZipporH4428, kingH4124of MoabH7971, hath sent[H8804]  unto me, saying,

¹¹ H5971Behold, there is a peopleH3318come out[H8802] H4714of EgyptH3680, which covereth[H8762] H5869the faceH776of the earthH3212: come[H8798] H6895now, curse[H8798] H3201me them; peradventure I shall be able[H8799] H3898to overcome[H8736] H1644them, and drive them out[H8765] .

¹² H430And GodH559said[H8799] H1109unto BalaamH3212, Thou shalt not go[H8799] H779with them; thou shalt not curse[H8799] H5971the peopleH1288: for they are blessed[H8803] .

¹³ H1109And BalaamH6965rose up[H8799] H1242in the morningH559, and said[H8799] H8269unto the princesH1111of BalakH3212, Get[H8798] H776you into your landH3068: for the LORDH3985refuseth[H8765] H5414to give me leave[H8800] H1980to go[H8800]  with you.

¹⁴ H8269And the princesH4124of MoabH6965rose up[H8799] H935, and they went[H8799] H1111unto BalakH559, and said[H8799] H1109, BalaamH3985refuseth[H8765] H1980to come[H8800]  with us.

¹⁵ H1111And BalakH7971sent[H8800] H3254yet again[H8686] H8269princesH7227, moreH3513, and more honourable[H8737]  than they.

¹⁶ H935And they came[H8799] H1109to BalaamH559, and said[H8799] H559to him, Thus saith[H8804] H1111BalakH1121the sonH6834of ZipporH4513, Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder[H8735] H1980thee from coming[H8800]  unto me:

¹⁷ H3513For I will promoteH3966thee unto veryH3513great[H8763] H3513honour[H8762] H6213, and I will do[H8799] H559whatsoever thou sayest[H8799] H3212unto me: come[H8798] H6895therefore, I pray thee, curse[H8798] H5971me this people.

¹⁸ H1109And BalaamH6030answered[H8799] H559and said[H8799] H5650unto the servantsH1111of BalakH1111, If BalakH5414would give[H8799] H1004me his houseH4393fullH3701of silverH2091and goldH3201, I cannot[H8799] H5674go beyond[H8800] H6310the wordH3068of the LORDH430my GodH6213, to do[H8800] H6996lessH1419or more.

¹⁹ H3427Now therefore, I pray you, tarry[H8798] H3915ye also here this nightH3045, that I may know[H8799] H3068what the LORDH1696will say[H8763] H3254unto me more[H8686] .

²⁰ H430And GodH935came[H8799] H1109unto BalaamH3915at nightH559, and said[H8799] H582unto him, If the menH935come[H8804] H7121to call[H8800] H6965thee, rise up[H8798] H3212, and go[H8798] H389with them; but yetH1697the wordH1696which I shall say[H8762] H6213unto thee, that shalt thou do[H8799] .

²¹ H1109And BalaamH6965rose up[H8799] H1242in the morningH2280, and saddled[H8799] H860his assH3212, and went[H8799] H8269with the princesH4124of Moab.

²² H430And God'sH639angerH2734was kindled[H8799] H1980because he went[H8802] H4397: and the angelH3068of the LORDH3320stood[H8691] H1870in the wayH7854for an adversaryH7392against him. Now he was riding[H8802] H860upon his assH8147, and his twoH5288servants were with him.

²³ H860And the assH7200saw[H8799] H4397the angelH3068of the LORDH5324standing[H8737] H1870in the wayH2719, and his swordH8025drawn[H8803] H3027in his handH860: and the assH5186turned aside[H8799] H1870out of the wayH3212, and went[H8799] H7704into the fieldH1109: and BalaamH5221smote[H8686] H860the assH5186, to turn[H8687] H1870her into the way.

²⁴ H4397But the angelH3068of the LORDH5975stood[H8799] H4934in a pathH3754of the vineyardsH1447, a wallH1447being on this side, and a wall on that side.

²⁵ H860And when the assH7200saw[H8799] H4397the angelH3068of the LORDH3905, she thrust[H8735] H7023herself unto the wallH3905, and crushed[H8799] H1109Balaam'sH7272footH7023against the wallH5221: and he smote[H8687] H3254her again[H8686] .

²⁶ H4397And the angelH3068of the LORDH5674went[H8800] H3254further[H8686] H5975, and stood[H8799] H6862in a narrowH4725placeH1870, where was no wayH5186to turn[H8800] H3225either to the right handH8040or to the left.

²⁷ H860And when the assH7200saw[H8799] H4397the angelH3068of the LORDH7257, she fell down[H8799] H1109under BalaamH1109: and Balaam'sH639angerH2734was kindled[H8799] H5221, and he smote[H8686] H860the assH4731with a staff.

²⁸ H3068And the LORDH6605opened[H8799] H6310the mouthH860of the assH559, and she said[H8799] H1109unto BalaamH6213, What have I done[H8804] H5221unto thee, that thou hast smitten[H8689] H7969me these threeH7272times?

²⁹ H1109And BalaamH559said[H8799] H860unto the assH5953, Because thou hast mocked[H8694] H3863me: I wouldH3426there wereH2719a swordH3027in mine handH2026, for now would I kill[H8804]  thee.

³⁰ H860And the assH559said[H8799] H1109unto BalaamH860, Am not I thine assH7392, upon which thou hast ridden[H8804] H3117ever since I was thine unto this dayH5532? was I ever[H8687] H5532wont[H8689] H6213to do so[H8800] H559unto thee? And he said[H8799] , Nay.

³¹ H3068Then the LORDH1540opened[H8762] H5869the eyesH1109of BalaamH7200, and he saw[H8799] H4397the angelH3068of the LORDH5324standing[H8737] H1870in the wayH2719, and his swordH8025drawn[H8803] H3027in his handH6915: and he bowed down[H8799] H7812his head, and fell flat[H8691] H639on his face.

³² H4397And the angelH3068of the LORDH559said[H8799] H5221unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten[H8689] H860thine assH7969these threeH7272timesH3318? behold, I went out[H8804] H7854to withstandH1870thee, because thy wayH3399is perverse[H8804]  before me:

³³ H860And the assH7200saw[H8799] H5186me, and turned[H8799] H6440from meH7969these threeH7272timesH194: unlessH5186she had turned[H8804] H6440from meH2026, surely now also I had slain[H8804] H2421thee, and saved her alive[H8689] .

³⁴ H1109And BalaamH559said[H8799] H4397unto the angelH3068of the LORDH2398, I have sinned[H8804] H3045; for I knew[H8804] H5324not that thou stoodest[H8737] H1870in the wayH7125against[H8800] H7489me: now therefore, if it displease thee[H8804] H5869 H7725, I will get me back again[H8799] .

³⁵ H4397And the angelH3068of the LORDH559said[H8799] H1109unto BalaamH3212, Go[H8798] H582with the menH657: but onlyH1697the wordH1696that I shall speak[H8762] H1696unto thee, that thou shalt speak[H8762] H1109. So BalaamH3212went[H8799] H8269with the princesH1111of Balak.

³⁶ H1111And when BalakH8085heard[H8799] H1109that BalaamH935was come[H8802] H3318, he went out[H8799] H7125to meet[H8800] H5892him unto a cityH4124of MoabH1366, which is in the borderH769of ArnonH7097, which is in the utmostH1366coast.

³⁷ H1111And BalakH559said[H8799] H1109unto BalaamH7971, Did I not earnestly[H8800] H7971send[H8804] H7121unto thee to call[H8800] H1980thee? wherefore camest[H8804] H3201thou not unto me? am I not able[H8799] H552indeedH3513to promote thee to honour[H8763] ?

³⁸ H1109And BalaamH559said[H8799] H1111unto BalakH935, Lo, I am come[H8804] H3201unto thee: have I now any power[H8799] H3201at all[H8800] H1696to say[H8763] H3972any thingH1697? the wordH430that GodH7760putteth[H8799] H6310in my mouthH1696, that shall I speak[H8762] .

³⁹ H1109And BalaamH3212went[H8799] H1111with BalakH935, and they came[H8799] H2351unto KirjathhuzothH7155 .

⁴⁰ H1111And BalakH2076offered[H8799] H1241oxenH6629and sheepH7971, and sent[H8762] H1109to BalaamH8269, and to the princes that were with him.

⁴¹ H1242And it came to pass on the morrowH1111, that BalakH3947took[H8799] H1109BalaamH5927, and brought him up[H8686] H1116into the high placesH1120of BaalH7200, that thence he might see[H8799] H7097the utmostH5971part of the people.
