In the ninthyearof Hoshea,the kingof AssyriacapturedSamariaand carriedIsraelawayinto exileto Assyria,and settledthem in Halahand Habor,[on] the riverof Gozan,and in the citiesof the Medes.
I beholdthe treacherousand loathe[them], Becausethey do not keepYour word.
"Becauseof the devastationof the afflicted,becauseof the groaningof the needy,NowI will arise,"saysthe LORD;"I will sethim in the safetyfor which he longs."
Indeed,noneof those who waitfor You will be ashamed;Those who dealtreacherouslywithoutcausewill be ashamed.
You have made Your peopleexperiencehardship;You have givenus wineto drinkthat makes us stagger.
Let the groaningof the prisonercomebeforeYou; According to the greatnessof Your powerpreservethosewhoare doomedto die.
Goodunderstandingproducesfavor,But the wayof the treacherousis hard.
Then it will happenon that daythat the LordWill againrecoverthe secondtimewith His handThe remnantof His people,whowill remain,From Assyria,Egypt,Pathros,Cush,Elam,Shinar,Hamath,And from the islandsof the sea.
that you will takeup thistauntagainstthe kingof Babylon,and say,"Howthe oppressorhas ceased,[And how] furyhas ceased!
"The wholeearthis at rest[and] is quiet;They breakforthinto shoutsof joy.
Elamtookup the quiverWith the chariots,infantry[and] horsemen;And Kiruncoveredthe shield.
From the endsof the earthwe hearsongs,"Gloryto the RighteousOne,"But I say,"Woeto me! Woeto me! Alasfor me! The treacherousdealtreacherously,And the treacherousdealverytreacherously."
Woeto you, O destroyer,While you were not destroyed;And he who is treacherous,while [others] did not dealtreacherouslywith him. As soon as you finishdestroying,you will be destroyed;As soon as you ceaseto dealtreacherously,[others] will dealtreacherouslywith you.
And the ransomedof the LORDwill returnAnd comewith joyfulshoutingto Zion,With everlastingjoyupon their heads.They will findgladnessand joy,And sorrowand sighingwill fleeaway.
"I was angrywith My people,I profanedMy heritageAnd gavethem into your hand.You did not showmercyto them, On the agedyou madeyour yokeveryheavy.
and allthe kingsof Zimri,allthe kingsof Elamand allthe kingsof Media;
"Is EphraimMy dearson?Is he a delightfulchild?Indeed,as oftenas I have spokenagainst him, I certainly[still] rememberhim; ThereforeMy heartyearnsfor him; I will surelyhavemercyon him," declaresthe LORD.
"For I satisfythe wearyonesand refresheveryonewho languishes."
You said,"Ah,woeis me! For the LORDhas addedsorrowto my pain;I am wearywith my groaningand have foundnorest."'
That whichcameas the wordof the LORDto Jeremiahthe prophetconcerningElam,at the beginningof the reignof Zedekiahkingof Judah,saying:
"Thussaysthe LORDof hosts,'Behold,I am going to breakthe bowof Elam,The finestof their might.
"Drawup your battlelinesagainstBabylonon everyside,Allyou who bendthe bow;Shootat her, do not be sparingwith [your] arrows,For she has sinnedagainst the LORD.
"Their Redeemeris strong,the LORDof hostsis His name;He will vigorouslypleadtheir caseSothat He may bringrestto the earth,But turmoilto the inhabitantsof Babylon.
Sharpenthe arrows,fillthe quivers!The LORDhas arousedthe spiritof the kingsof the Medes,BecauseHis purposeis againstBabylonto destroyit; For it is the vengeanceof the LORD,vengeancefor His temple.
"I will punishBelin Babylon,And I will make whathe has swallowedcomeout of his mouth;And the nationswill nolongerstreamto him. Eventhe wallof Babylonhas fallendown!
"ThoughBabylonshould ascendto the heavens,And thoughshe should fortifyher loftystronghold,From Me destroyerswill cometo her," declaresthe LORD.
"Let alltheir wickednesscomebeforeYou; And dealwith them as You have dealtwith me For allmy transgressions;For my groansare manyand my heartis faint."
"'PERES--your kingdomhas beendividedand givenover to the Medesand Persians."
ThenKingBelshazzarwas greatlyalarmed,his facegrew[even] paler,and his nobleswere perplexed.
I lookedin the vision,and while I was lookingI was in the citadelof Susa,whichis in the provinceof Elam;and I lookedin the visionand I myselfwas besidethe UlaiCanal.
"The ramwhichyou sawwith the two hornsrepresents the kingsof Mediaand Persia.
Ifanyone[is destined] for captivity,to captivityhe goes;ifanyonekillswith the sword,with the swordhe mustbe killed.Hereis the perseveranceand the faithof the saints.
"As the proverbof the ancientssays,Out of the wickedcomesforthwickedness;but my handshall not be against you.
