According to the numberof dayswhichyou spiedout the land,fortydays,for everydayyou shall bearyour guilta year,[even] fortyyears,and you will knowMy opposition.
"Blessedbe the LORD,whohas givenrestto His peopleIsrael,according to allthat He promised;not onewordhas failedof allHis goodpromise,whichHe promisedthroughMosesHis servant.
to fulfillthe wordof the LORDby the mouthof Jeremiah,untilthe landhad enjoyedits sabbaths.Allthe daysof its desolationit keptsabbathuntil seventyyearswere complete.
For He rememberedHis holyword[With] AbrahamHis servant;
For my iniquitiesare goneovermy head;As a heavyburdenthey weightoomuchfor me.
Has His lovingkindnessceasedforever?Has [His] promisecometo an endforever?
"For fortyyearsI loathed[that] generation,And saidthey are a peoplewho errin their heart,And they do not knowMy ways.
"They will bear[the punishment of] their iniquity;as the iniquityof the inquireris, so the iniquityof the prophetwill be,
"Therefore,thussaysthe LordGOD,'Becauseyou have forgottenMe and castMe behindyour back,bearnowthe [punishment] of your lewdnessand your harlotries.'"
"For I have assignedyou a numberof dayscorresponding to the yearsof their iniquity,threehundredand ninetydays;thus you shall bearthe iniquityof the houseof Israel.
"When you have completedthese,you shall liedowna secondtime,[but] on your rightsideand bearthe iniquityof the houseof Judah;I have assignedit to you for fortydays,a dayfor each year.
"Seventyweekshave been decreedfor your peopleand your holycity,to finishthe transgression,to makean endof sin,to makeatonementfor iniquity,to bringin everlastingrighteousness,to sealup visionand prophecyand to anointthe mostholy[place].
Thoughthey bringup their children,Yet I will bereavethem until not a manis left. Yes,woeto them indeedwhen I departfrom them!
You shall also not uncoverthe nakednessof your mother'ssisteror of your father'ssister,for such a one has madenakedhis bloodrelative;they will beartheir guilt.
I tookmy staffFavorand cutit in pieces,to breakmy covenantwhichI had madewith allthe peoples.
When they returnedfrom spyingout the land,at the endof fortydays,
"Only the Levitesshall performthe serviceof the tentof meeting,and they shall beartheir iniquity;it shall be a perpetualstatutethroughout your generations,and amongthe sonsof Israelthey shall havenoinheritance.
"So the LORD'Sangerburnedagainst Israel,and He made them wanderin the wildernessfortyyears,untilthe entiregenerationof those who had doneevilin the sightof the LORDwas destroyed.
"For a periodof aboutforty yearsHe putup with them in the wilderness.
"For the LORDyour Godhas blessedyou in allthat you have done;He has knownyour wanderingsthrough thisgreatwilderness.Thesefortyyearsthe LORDyour Godhas been with you; you have not lackeda thing."'
Therefore,let us fearif,while a promiseremainsof enteringHis rest,any oneof you may seemto have come shortof it.
"Nowbehold,the LORDhas let me live,justas He spoke,theseforty-fiveyears,from the timethat the LORDspokethiswordto Moses,whenIsraelwalkedin the wilderness;and nowbehold,I am eighty-fiveyearsoldtoday.
"And I will grant[authority] to my twowitnesses,and they will prophesyfor twelvehundredand sixtydays,clothedin sackcloth."
"Thereforethe LORDGodof Israeldeclares,I did indeedsaythat your houseand the houseof your fathershould walkbeforeMe forever;but nowthe LORDdeclares,'Farbe it from Me-- for those who honorMe I will honor,and those who despiseMe will be lightlyesteemed.
