therefore you shall serveyour enemieswhomthe LORDwill sendagainst you, in hunger,in thirst,in nakedness,and in the lackof allthings;and He will putan ironyokeon your neckuntilHe has destroyedyou.
"When Your peopleIsraelare defeatedbeforean enemy,becausethey have sinnedagainst You, if they turnto You againand confessYour nameand prayand makesupplicationto You in thishouse,
"But they will becomehis slavesso that they may learn[the difference between] My serviceand the serviceof the kingdomsof the countries."
"I was angrywith My people,I profanedMy heritageAnd gavethem into your hand.You did not showmercyto them, On the agedyou madeyour yokeveryheavy.
And you will, even of yourself, letgoof your inheritanceThat I gaveyou; And I will make you serveyour enemiesIn the landwhichyou do not know;For you have kindleda firein My angerWhich will burnforever.
"So the LORDwas nolongerableto endure[it], becauseof the evilof your deeds,becauseof the abominationswhichyou have committed;thus your landhas becomea ruin,an objectof horrorand a curse,withoutan inhabitant,as [it is] thisday.
Behold,I am watchingoverthem for harmand not for good,and allthe menof Judahwhoare in the landof Egyptwill meettheir endby the swordand by famineuntilthey are completelygone.
"It shall comeabout whenthey say,'Whyhas the LORDour Goddoneallthesethingsto us?' then you shall sayto them, 'As you have forsakenMe and servedforeigngodsin your land,soyou will servestrangersin a landthat is not yours.'
"The yokeof my transgressionsis bound;By His handthey are knittogether.They have comeupon my neck;He has made my strengthfail.The Lordhas givenme into the handsOf [those against whom] I am not ableto stand.
Judahhas goneinto exileunderafflictionAnd underharshservitude;She dwellsamong the nations,[But] she has foundnorest;Allher pursuershave overtakenher In the midstof distress.
The tongueof the infantcleavesTo the roofof its mouthbecause of thirst;The littleonesaskfor bread,[But] noonebreaks[it] for them.
"Saynowto the rebellioushouse,Do you not knowwhatthesethings[mean]?' Say,'Behold,the kingof Babyloncameto Jerusalem,tookits kingand princesand broughtthem to him in Babylon.
saying,'Thussaysthe LordGOD,"A greateaglewith greatwings,longpinionsand a fullplumageof manycolorscameto Lebanonand tookaway the topof the cedar.
"But there was anothergreateaglewith greatwingsand muchplumage;and behold,thisvinebentits rootstowardhim and sentout its branchestoward him from the bedswhereit was planted,that he might waterit.
They will dealwith you in hatred,takeallyour property,and leaveyou nakedand bare.And the nakednessof your harlotrieswill be uncovered,both your lewdnessand your harlotries.
Thereforethussaysthe LORD,"Behold,I am planningagainstthisfamilya calamityFrom whichyou cannotremoveyour necks;And you will not walkhaughtily,For it will be an eviltime.
"TakeMy yokeupon you and learnfrom Me, for I amgentleand humblein heart,and YOU WILL FINDRESTFOR YOUR SOULS.
[They will be] wastedby famine,and consumedby plagueAnd bitterdestruction;And the teethof beastsI will sendupon them, With the venomof crawlingthingsof the dust.
