But he told[H8689] H1not his father.

² H7586And SaulH3427tarried[H8802] H7097in the uttermostH1390part of GibeahH7416under a pomegranate treeH4051which is in MigronH5971: and the peopleH8337that were with him were about sixH3967hundredH376men;

³ H281And AhiahH1121, the sonH285of AhitubH350, Ichabod'sH251brotherH1121, the sonH6372of PhinehasH1121, the sonH5941of EliH3068, the LORD'SH3548priestH7887in ShilohH5375, wearing[H8802] H646an ephodH5971. And the peopleH3045knew[H8804] H3129not that JonathanH1980was gone[H8804] .

⁴ H4569And between the passagesH3129, by which JonathanH1245sought[H8765] H5674to go over[H8800] H6430unto the PhilistinesH4673' garrisonH8127, there was a sharpH5553rockH5676on the one sideH8127, and a sharpH5553rockH5676on the other sideH8034: and the nameH259of the oneH949was BozezH8034, and the nameH259of the otherH5573Seneh.

⁵ H8127The forefrontH259of the oneH4690was situateH6828northwardH4136over againstH4363MichmashH259, and the otherH5045southwardH4136over againstH1387Gibeah.

⁶ H3083And JonathanH559said[H8799] H5288to the young manH5375that bare[H8802] H3627his armourH3212, Come[H8798] H5674, and let us go over[H8799] H4673unto the garrisonH6189of these uncircumcisedH3068: it may be that the LORDH6213will work[H8799] H4622for us: for there is no restraintH3068to the LORDH3467to save[H8687] H7227by manyH4592or by few.

⁷ H5375And his armourbearer[H8802] H3627 H559said[H8799] H6213unto him, Do[H8798] H3824all that is in thine heartH5186: turn[H8798] H3824thee; behold, I am with thee according to thy heart.

⁸ H559Then said[H8799] H3083JonathanH5674, Behold, we will pass over[H8802] H582unto these menH1540, and we will discover[H8738]  ourselves unto them.

⁹ H559If they say[H8799] H1826thus unto us, Tarry[H8798] H5060until we come[H8687] H5975to you; then we will stand still[H8804] H5927in our place, and will not go up[H8799]  unto them.

¹⁰ H559But if they say[H8799] H5927thus, Come up[H8798] H5927unto us; then we will go up[H8804] H3068: for the LORDH5414hath delivered[H8804] H3027them into our handH226: and this shall be a sign unto us.

¹¹ H8147And bothH1540of them discovered[H8735] H4673themselves unto the garrisonH6430of the PhilistinesH6430: and the PhilistinesH559said[H8799] H5680, Behold, the HebrewsH3318come forth[H8802] H2356out of the holesH2244where they had hid[H8694]  themselves.

¹³ H3129And JonathanH5927climbed up[H8799] H3027upon his handsH7272and upon his feetH5375, and his armourbearer[H8802] H3627 H310afterH5307him: and they fell[H8799] H6440beforeH3129JonathanH5375; and his armourbearer[H8802] H3627 H4191slew[H8789] H310after him.

¹⁴ H7223And that firstH4347slaughterH3129, which JonathanH5375and his armourbearer[H8802] H3627 H5221made[H8689] H6242, was about twentyH376menH2677, within as it were an halfH4618acreH7704of landH6776, which a yoke of oxen might plow .

¹⁵ H2731And there was tremblingH4264in the hostH7704, in the fieldH5971, and among all the peopleH4673: the garrisonH7843, and the spoilers[H8688] H2729, they also trembled[H8804] H776, and the earthH7264quaked[H8799] H430: so it was a very greatH2731trembling.

¹⁶ H6822And the watchmen[H8802] H7586of SaulH1390in GibeahH1144of BenjaminH7200looked[H8799] H1995; and, behold, the multitudeH4127melted away[H8738] H3212, and they went[H8799] H1986on beating down[H8800]  one another .

¹⁷ H559Then said[H8799] H7586SaulH5971unto the peopleH6485that were with him, Number[H8798] H7200now, and see[H8798] H1980who is gone[H8804] H6485from us. And when they had numbered[H8799] H3129, behold, JonathanH5375and his armourbearer[H8802] H3627  were not there .

¹⁸ H7586And SaulH559said[H8799] H281unto AhiahH5066, Bring hither[H8685] H727the arkH430of GodH727. For the arkH430of GodH3117was at that timeH1121with the childrenH3478of Israel.

¹⁹ H7586And it came to pass, while SaulH1696talked[H8765] H3548unto the priestH1995, that the noiseH4264that was in the hostH6430of the PhilistinesH3212went[H8799] H1980on[H8800] H7227and increasedH7586: and SaulH559said[H8799] H3548unto the priestH622, Withdraw[H8798] H3027thine hand.

²⁰ H7586And SaulH5971and all the peopleH2199that were with him assembled[H8735] H935themselves, and they came[H8799] H4421to the battleH376: and, behold, every man'sH2719swordH7453was against his fellowH3966, and there was a veryH1419greatH4103discomfiture.

²¹ H5680Moreover the HebrewsH6430that were with the PhilistinesH865beforeH8032that timeH5927, which went up[H8804] H4264with them into the campH5439from the country round aboutH3478, even they also turned to be with the IsraelitesH7586that were with SaulH3129and Jonathan.

²² H376Likewise all the menH3478of IsraelH2244which had hid[H8693] H2022themselves in mountH669EphraimH8085, when they heard[H8804] H6430that the PhilistinesH5127fled[H8804] H1692, even they also followed hard[H8686] H310afterH4421them in the battle.

²³ H3068So the LORDH3467saved[H8686] H3478IsraelH3117that dayH4421: and the battleH5674passed over[H8804] H1007unto Bethaven.

²⁴ H376And the menH3478of IsraelH5065were distressed[H8738] H3117that dayH7586: for SaulH422had adjured[H8686] H5971the peopleH559, saying[H8800] H779, Cursed[H8803] H376be the manH398that eateth[H8799] H3899any foodH6153until eveningH5358, that I may be avenged[H8738] H341on mine enemies[H8802] H5971. So none of the peopleH2938tasted[H8804] H3899any food.

²⁵ H776And all they of the landH935came[H8804] H3293to a woodH1706; and there was honeyH6440uponH7704the ground.

²⁶ H5971And when the peopleH935were come[H8799] H3293into the woodH1706, behold, the honeyH1982droppedH5381; but no man put[H8688] H3027his handH6310to his mouthH5971: for the peopleH3372feared[H8804] H7621the oath.

²⁷ H3129But JonathanH8085heard[H8804] H1not when his fatherH7650chargedH5971the peopleH7650with the oath[H8687] H7971: wherefore he put forth[H8799] H7097the endH4294of the rodH3027that was in his handH2881, and dipped[H8799] H3295it in an honeycombH1706 H7725, and put[H8686] H3027his handH6310to his mouthH5869; and his eyesH215were enlightened[H8799] .

²⁸ H6030Then answered[H8799] H376oneH5971of the peopleH559, and said[H8799] H1, Thy fatherH7650straitly[H8687] H7650chargedH5971the peopleH7650with an oath[H8689] H559, saying[H8800] H779, Cursed[H8803] H376be the manH398that eateth[H8799] H3899any foodH3117this dayH5971. And the peopleH5774were faint[H8799] .

²⁹ H559Then said[H8799] H3129JonathanH1, My fatherH5916hath troubled[H8804] H776the landH7200: see[H8798] H5869, I pray you, how mine eyesH215have been enlightened[H8804] H2938, because I tasted[H8804] H4592a littleH1706of this honey.

³⁰ H637How much moreH3863, if haplyH5971the peopleH398had eaten[H8804] H398freely[H8800] H3117to dayH7998of the spoilH341of their enemies[H8802] H4672which they found[H8804] H7235? for had there not been now a much greater[H8804] H4347slaughterH6430among the Philistines?

³¹ H5221And they smote[H8686] H6430the PhilistinesH3117that dayH4363from MichmashH357to AijalonH5971: and the peopleH3966were veryH5774faint[H8799] .

³² H5971And the peopleH5860flew[H8799] H6213 [H8799] H7998upon the spoilH3947, and took[H8799] H6629sheepH1241, and oxenH1121, and calvesH7819, and slew[H8799] H776them on the groundH5971: and the peopleH398did eat[H8799] H1818them with the blood.

³³ H5046Then they told[H8686] H7586SaulH559, saying[H8800] H5971, Behold, the peopleH2398sin[H8802] H3068against the LORDH398, in that they eat[H8800] H1818with the bloodH559. And he said[H8799] H898, Ye have transgressed[H8804] H1556: roll[H8798] H1419a greatH68stoneH3117unto me this day.

³⁴ H7586And SaulH559said[H8799] H6327, Disperse[H8798] H5971yourselves among the peopleH559, and say[H8804] H5066unto them, Bring me hither[H8685] H376every manH7794his oxH376, and every manH7716his sheepH7819, and slay[H8804] H398them here, and eat[H8804] H2398; and sin[H8799] H3068not against the LORDH398in eating[H8800] H1818with the bloodH5971. And all the peopleH5066brought[H8686] H376every manH7794his oxH3027with himH3915that nightH7819, and slew[H8799]  them there.

³⁵ H7586And SaulH1129built[H8799] H4196an altarH3068unto the LORDH2490: the same was the first[H8689] H4196altarH1129that he built[H8800] H3068unto the LORD.

³⁶ H7586And SaulH559said[H8799] H3381, Let us go down[H8799] H310afterH6430the PhilistinesH3915by nightH962, and spoil[H8799] H1242them until the morningH216lightH7604, and let us not leave[H8686] H376a manH559of them. And they said[H8799] H6213, Do[H8798] H5869whatsoever seemethH2896goodH559unto thee. Then said[H8799] H3548the priestH7126, Let us draw near[H8799] H1988hitherH430unto God.

³⁷ H7586And SaulH7592asked[H8799] H430counsel of GodH3381, Shall I go down[H8799] H310afterH6430the PhilistinesH5414? wilt thou deliver[H8799] H3027them into the handH3478of IsraelH6030? But he answered[H8804] H3117him not that day.

³⁸ H7586And SaulH559said[H8799] H5066, Draw ye near[H8798] H1988hitherH6438, all the chiefH5971of the peopleH3045: and know[H8798] H7200and see[H8798] H4100whereinH2403this sinH3117hath been this day.

³⁹ H3068For, as the LORDH2416livethH3467, which saveth[H8688] H3478IsraelH3426, though it beH3129in JonathanH1121my sonH4191, he shall surely[H8800] H4191die[H8799] H5971. But there was not a man among all the peopleH6030that answered[H8802]  him.

⁴⁰ H559Then said[H8799] H3478he unto all IsraelH259, Be ye on oneH5676sideH3129, and I and JonathanH1121my sonH259will be on the otherH5676sideH5971. And the peopleH559said[H8799] H7586unto SaulH6213, Do[H8798] H5869what seemethH2896good unto thee.

⁴¹ H7586Therefore SaulH559said[H8799] H3068unto the LORDH430GodH3478of IsraelH3051, Give[H8798] H8549a perfectH7586lot . And SaulH3129and JonathanH3920were taken[H8735] H5971: but the peopleH3318escaped[H8804] .

⁴² H7586And SaulH559said[H8799] H5307, Cast[H8685] H3129lots between me and JonathanH1121my sonH3129. And JonathanH3920was taken[H8735] .

⁴³ H7586Then SaulH559said[H8799] H3129to JonathanH5046, Tell[H8685] H6213me what thou hast done[H8804] H3129. And JonathanH5046told[H8686] H559him, and said[H8799] H2938, I did but[H8800] H2938taste[H8804] H4592a littleH1706honeyH7097with the endH4294of the rodH3027that was in mine handH2009, and, loH4191, I must die[H8799] .

⁴⁴ H7586And SaulH559answered[H8799] H430, GodH6213do so[H8799] H3254and more also[H8686] H4191: for thou shalt surely[H8800] H4191die[H8799] H3129, Jonathan.

⁴⁵ H5971And the peopleH559said[H8799] H7586unto SaulH3129, Shall JonathanH4191die[H8799] H6213, who hath wrought[H8804] H1419this greatH3444salvationH3478in IsraelH2486? God forbidH3068: as the LORDH2416livethH8185, there shall not one hairH7218of his headH5307fall[H8799] H776to the groundH6213; for he hath wrought[H8804] H430with GodH3117this dayH5971. So the peopleH6299rescued[H8799] H3129JonathanH4191, that he died[H8804]  not.

⁴⁶ H7586Then SaulH5927went up[H8799] H310from followingH6430the PhilistinesH6430: and the PhilistinesH1980went[H8804] H4725to their own place.

⁴⁷ H7586So SaulH3920took[H8804] H4410the kingdomH3478over IsraelH3898, and fought[H8735] H341against all his enemies[H8802] H5439on every sideH4124, against MoabH1121, and against the childrenH5983of AmmonH123, and against EdomH4428, and against the kingsH6678of ZobahH6430, and against the PhilistinesH6437: and whithersoever he turned[H8799] H7561himself, he vexed[H8686]  them .

⁴⁸ H6213And he gathered[H8799] H2428an hostH5221, and smote[H8686] H6002the AmalekitesH5337, and delivered[H8686] H3478IsraelH3027out of the handsH8154of them that spoiled[H8802]  them.

⁴⁹ H1121Now the sonsH7586of SaulH3129were JonathanH3440, and IshuiH4444, and MelchishuaH8034: and the namesH8147of his twoH1323daughtersH8034were these; the nameH1067of the firstbornH4764MerabH8034, and the nameH6996of the youngerH4324Michal:

⁵⁰ H8034And the nameH7586of Saul'sH802wifeH293was AhinoamH1323, the daughterH290of AhimaazH8034: and the nameH8269of the captainH6635of his hostH74was AbnerH1121, the sonH5369of NerH7586, Saul'sH1730uncle.

⁵¹ H7027And KishH1was the fatherH7586of SaulH5369; and NerH1the fatherH74of AbnerH1121was the sonH22of Abiel.

⁵² H2389And there was soreH4421warH6430against the PhilistinesH3117all the daysH7586of SaulH7586: and when SaulH7200saw[H8804] H1368any strongH376manH2428, or any valiantH1121manH622, he took[H8799]  him unto him.
