"It shall be when he hearsthe wordsof thiscurse,that he will boast,saying,'I havepeacethoughI walkin the stubbornnessof my heartin orderto destroythe watered[land] with the dry.'
but from the treeof the knowledgeof goodand evilyou shall not eat,for in the daythat you eatfrom it you will surelydie."
and alsofor the innocentbloodwhichhe shed,for he filledJerusalemwith innocentblood;and the LORDwouldnot forgive.
He saysto himself,"Godhas forgotten;He has hiddenHis face;He will neverseeit."
For it flattershim in his [own] eyesConcerning the discoveryof his iniquity[and] the hatred[of it].
Thoughwhile he liveshe congratulateshimself--And though [men] praiseyou whenyou dowellfor yourself--
A manwho hardens[his] neckafter much reproofWill suddenlybe brokenbeyondremedy.
Rejoice,youngman,during your childhood,and let your heartbe pleasantduring the daysof youngmanhood.And followthe impulsesof your heartand the desiresof your eyes.Yet knowthat Godwill bringyou to judgmentfor allthesethings.
"But they will say,'It's hopeless!For we are goingto followour own plans,and eachof us will actaccording to the stubbornnessof his evilheart.'
"At that timethey will callJerusalemThe Throneof the LORD,'and allthe nationswill be gatheredto it, to Jerusalem,for the nameof the LORD;norwill they walkanymoreafterthe stubbornnessof their evilheart.
"And concerningJehoiakimkingof Judahyou shall say,'Thussaysthe LORD,"You have burnedthisscroll,saying,Whyhave you writtenon it that the kingof Babylonwill certainlycomeand destroythisland,and will make manand beastto ceasefrom it?'"
Behold,I am watchingoverthem for harmand not for good,and allthe menof Judahwhoare in the landof Egyptwill meettheir endby the swordand by famineuntilthey are completelygone.
"Yet they did not obeyor inclinetheir ear,but walkedin [their own] counsels[and] in the stubbornnessof their evilheart,and wentbackwardand not forward.
[along with] the prophetsof Israelwho prophesyto Jerusalem,and who seevisionsof peacefor her when thereis nopeace,'declaresthe LordGOD.
"Becauseyou disheartenedthe righteouswith falsehoodwhen I did not causehim grief,but have encouragedthe wickednot to turnfrom his wickedway[and] preservehis life,
"For anyoneof the houseof Israelor of the immigrantswhostayin Israelwho separateshimself from Me, setsup his idolsin his heart,putsrightbeforehis facethe stumblingblockof his iniquity,and [then] comesto the prophetto inquireof Me for himself, I the LORDwill be broughtto answerhim in My own person.
"I will setMy faceagainst that manand makehim a signand a proverb,and I will cuthim offfrom amongMy people.So you will knowthat I am the LORD.
But the personwhodoes[anything] defiantly,whetherhe is nativeor an alien,that oneis blasphemingthe LORD;and that personshall be cutofffrom amonghis people.
"It shall be a tasselfor you to lookat and rememberallthe commandmentsof the LORD,so as to dothem and not followafteryour own heartand your own eyes,afterwhichyou playedthe harlot,
For even though they knewGod,they did not honorHim as Godorgive thanks,but they became futilein their speculations,and their foolishheartwas darkened.
[We are] destroyingspeculationsand everylofty thingraisedup againstthe knowledgeof God,and [we are] takingeverythoughtcaptiveto the obedienceof Christ,
SothisI say,and affirmtogetherwith the Lord,that you walkno longerjustas the Gentilesalsowalk,in the futilityof their mind,
Let no onedeceiveyou with emptywords,for becauseof these thingsthe wrathof Godcomesupon the sonsof disobedience.
"Ifthere is foundin your midst,in anyof your towns,whichthe LORDyour Godis givingyou, a manora womanwhodoeswhatis evilin the sightof the LORDyour God,by transgressingHis covenant,
"But it shall comeabout, ifyou do not obeythe LORDyour God,to observeto doallHis commandmentsand His statuteswith whichI chargeyou today,that allthesecurseswill comeupon you and overtakeyou:
that you may enterinto the covenantwith the LORDyour God,and into His oathwhichthe LORDyour Godis makingwith you today,
sothat therewill not be among you a manorwoman,orfamilyortribe,whoseheartturnsawaytodayfrom the LORDour God,to goand servethe godsof thosenations;that therewill not be among you a rootbearingpoisonousfruitand wormwood.
"The LORDshall neverbe willingto forgivehim, but ratherthe angerof the LORDand His jealousywill burnagainst that man,and everycursewhich is writtenin thisbookwill reston him, and the LORDwill blotout his namefrom underheaven.
