"Righteousnessbelongs to You, O Lord,but to us openshame,as it is thisday--to the menof Judah,the inhabitantsof Jerusalemand allIsrael,those who are nearbyand those who are faraway in allthe countriesto whichYou have driventhem, because of their unfaithfuldeedswhichthey have committedagainst You.
"Afterallthat has comeupon us for our evildeedsand our greatguilt,sinceYou our Godhave requited[us] lessthanour iniquities[deserve], and have givenus an escapedremnantas this,
"O LORDGodof Israel,You are righteous,for we have been leftan escapedremnant,as [it is] thisday;behold,we are beforeYou in our guilt,for noonecan standbeforeYou becauseof this."
"However, You are justin allthat has comeupon us; For You have dealtfaithfully,but we have actedwickedly.
Righteousare You, O LORD,And uprightare Your judgments.
Alldaylong my dishonoris beforeme And my humiliationhas overwhelmedme,
Deliverme from bloodguiltiness,O God,the Godof my salvation;[Then] my tonguewill joyfullysingof Your righteousness.
Against You, You only,I have sinnedAnd donewhatis evilin Your sight,Sothat You are justifiedwhen You speakAnd blamelesswhen You judge.
Then it will happenon that daythat the LordWill againrecoverthe secondtimewith His handThe remnantof His people,whowill remain,From Assyria,Egypt,Pathros,Cush,Elam,Shinar,Hamath,And from the islandsof the sea.
They will be putto shameand evenhumiliated,allof them; The manufacturersof idolswill goaway togetherin humiliation.
Righteousare You, O LORD,that I would plead[my] casewith You; IndeedI would discussmattersof justicewith You: Whyhas the wayof the wickedprospered?[Why] are allthose who dealin treacheryat ease?
"In His daysJudahwill be saved,And Israelwill dwellsecurely;And thisis His nameby whichHe will be called,The LORDour righteousness.'
I will makethem a terror[and an] evilfor allthe kingdomsof the earth,as a reproachand a proverb,a tauntand a cursein allplaceswhereI will scatterthem.
"Let us liedownin our shame,and let our humiliationcoverus; for we have sinnedagainst the LORDour God,we and our fathers,from our youtheven to thisday.And we have not obeyedthe voiceof the LORDour God."
becauseof allthe evilof the sonsof Israeland the sonsof Judahwhichthey have doneto provokeMe to anger--they, their kings,their leaders,their priests,their prophets,the menof Judahand the inhabitantsof Jerusalem.
In thosedaysJudahwill be savedand Jerusalemwill dwellin safety;and thisis [the name] by whichshe will be called:the LORDis our righteousness.'
Like watchmenof a fieldthey are againsther roundabout,Becauseshe has rebelledagainst Me,' declaresthe LORD.
"Do they spiteMe?" declaresthe LORD."Is it not themselves [they spite], to their ownshame?"
so that you may rememberand be ashamedand neveropenyour mouthanymorebecauseof your humiliation,when I have forgivenyou for allthat you have done,"the LordGODdeclares.
"Then you will rememberyour evilwaysand your deedsthat were not good,and you will loatheyourselves in your own sightfor your iniquitiesand your abominations.
Therefore,fatherswill eat[their] sonsamongyou, and sonswill eattheir fathers;for I will executejudgmentson you and scatterallyour remnantto everywind.
"He whois faroffwill dieby the plague,and he whois nearwill fallby the sword,and he who remainsand is besiegedwill dieby the famine.Thus will I spendMy wrathon them.
"Therefore the LORDhas keptthe calamityin storeand broughtit on us; for the LORDour Godis righteouswith respectto allHis deedswhichHe has done,but we have not obeyedHis voice.
"O my God,inclineYour earand hear!OpenYour eyesand seeour desolationsand the citywhichis calledby Your name;for we are not presentingour supplicationsbeforeYou on accountof any meritsof our own, but on accountof Your greatcompassion.
"Openshamebelongs to us, O Lord,to our kings,our princesand our fathers,becausewe have sinnedagainst You.
"For behold,I am commanding,And I will shakethe houseof Israelamong allnationsAs [grain] is shakenin a sieve,But not a kernelwill fallto the ground.
Thereforewhatbenefitwere you thenderivingfrom the things of whichyou are nowashamed?For the outcomeof those thingsis death.
"The Rock!His workis perfect,For allHis waysare just;A Godof faithfulnessand withoutinjustice,Righteousand uprightis He.
"The LORDwill scatteryou among the peoples,and you will be leftfewin numberamong the nationswherethe LORDdrivesyou.
