61 Bible verses in times of affliction

In the midst of everything, God is always faithful, and His word reminds us of that faithfulness, especially when we're hurting. He sees our pain and doesn't dismiss it; instead, He assures us that all is not lost.

It's okay to grieve; it's a natural response to pain and loss. There's really nothing wrong with feeling sad. And you know what? There's a purpose in those times of sadness. He works all things together for good for those who are called according to His purpose.

Psalm 46:101 reminds us to be still and rest in the knowledge that He is God. "Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"

And don't forget, the joy of the Lord is your strength, and you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. So take heart, this situation won't be the end of you. Instead, see it as an opportunity to draw closer to God and let your deepest worship flow from within.

Philippians 2:1-2

Therefore, if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort provided by love, any fellowship in the Spirit, any affection or mercy,

so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow – in heaven and on earth and under the earth –

and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

So then, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, continue working out your salvation with awe and reverence,

for the one bringing forth in you both the desire and the effort – for the sake of his good pleasure – is God.

Do everything without grumbling or arguing,

so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without blemish though you live in a crooked and perverse society, in which you shine as lights in the world

by holding on to the word of life so that on the day of Christ I will have a reason to boast that I did not run in vain nor labor in vain.

But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice together with all of you.

And in the same way you also should be glad and rejoice together with me.

Now I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I too may be encouraged by hearing news about you.

complete my joy and be of the same mind, by having the same love, being united in spirit, and having one purpose.

Prayer

My adored God, my good Jesus, my loving Father, Creator of heaven and earth, You are the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. My beloved Holy Spirit, in this time of trouble, I ask for Your strength. Help me each day to walk by faith and not by sight, to understand that even if today everything seems bad, tomorrow it will be okay, that if today everything seems dark, tomorrow the light will come. In this difficult moment, help me to fix my eyes on how great and powerful You are and not on my circumstances. Your word says, "Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water to come to You. But when he saw the strong wind, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, 'Lord, save me!'" Father, help me not to get sidetracked by the worries and desires of this world, so I can emerge victorious from this affliction and understand that there is no storm greater than You. Transform my thinking and purify my heart. Lord, to You be all the glory and honor. In Jesus' name, Amen.
