You're called to live a holy life—a life of purity, set apart for God. To stay pure, it's important to steer clear of anything that doesn't honor Him, and the Bible is the best guidebook for understanding what those things are. Spend time in His Word daily, and you'll get to know God better. It's like having a compass that points you toward what's good and away from what's not, what draws you closer to God and what creates distance.
Psalm 119:91 asks, "How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word." Jesus gave everything for you, to cleanse you and make you holy. If you truly love your Heavenly Father, you'll want to distance yourself from anything that separates you from Him. You'll strive daily to guard your heart and live a holy life in all you do.
Each day, you should be reaching for that holiness God calls you to, because it's essential to seeing Him. Hebrews 12:141 tells us, "Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord." Your Heavenly Father wants you to stand before Him holy, free from anything that contaminates your body and spirit.
You'll find so much in the Bible about holiness and how much it matters to Jesus. I hope you'll dive in and discover its importance for yourself.
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you! Don’t be frightened, for I am your God! I strengthen you – yes, I help you – yes, I uphold you with my saving right hand!
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke on you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.“Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?”For my yoke is easy to bear, and my load is not hard to carry.”
Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God.And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
For just as the sufferings of Christ overflow toward us, so also our comfort through Christ overflows to you.
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, sure and steadfast, which reaches inside behind the curtain,
For I am sure of this very thing, that the one who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
“I, I am the one who consoles you. Why are you afraid of mortal men, of mere human beings who are as short-lived as grass?
Even if the mountains are removed and the hills displaced, my devotion will not be removed from you, nor will my covenant of friendship be displaced,” says the Lord, the one who has compassion on you.
No trial has overtaken you that is not faced by others. And God is faithful: He will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear, but with the trial will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it.
Lord, grant me relief from my suffering so that I may have some relief. Rescue me from those who persecute me so that I may be rescued.
Dear friends, do not be astonished that a trial by fire is occurring among you, as though something strange were happening to you.But rejoice in the degree that you have shared in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice and be glad.
When you lie down you will not be filled with fear; when you lie down your sleep will be pleasant.
And which of you by worrying can add an hour to his life?So if you cannot do such a very little thing as this, why do you worry about the rest?
As a mother consoles a child, so I will console you, and you will be consoled over Jerusalem.”
For his anger lasts only a brief moment, and his good favor restores one’s life. One may experience sorrow during the night, but joy arrives in the morning.
Indeed you will go out with joy; you will be led along in peace; the mountains and hills will give a joyful shout before you, and all the trees in the field will clap their hands.
Praise the Lord, O my soul! With all that is within me, praise his holy name!He does not deal with us as our sins deserve; he does not repay us as our misdeeds deserve.For as the skies are high above the earth, so his loyal love towers over his faithful followers.As far as the eastern horizon is from the west, so he removes the guilt of our rebellious actions from us.As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on his faithful followers.For he knows what we are made of; he realizes we are made of clay.A person’s life is like grass. Like a flower in the field it flourishes,but when the hot wind blows by, it disappears, and one can no longer even spot the place where it once grew.But the Lord continually shows loyal love to his faithful followers, and is faithful to their descendants,to those who keep his covenant, who are careful to obey his commands.The Lord has established his throne in heaven; his kingdom extends over everything.Praise the Lord, O my soul! Do not forget all his kind deeds!Praise the Lord, you angels of his, you powerful warriors who carry out his decrees and obey his orders!Praise the Lord, all you warriors of his, you servants of his who carry out his desires!Praise the Lord, all that he has made, in all the regions of his kingdom! Praise the Lord, O my soul!He is the one who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases,who delivers your life from the Pit, who crowns you with his loyal love and compassion,
those whom the Lord has ransomed will return that way. They will enter Zion with a happy shout. Unending joy will crown them, happiness and joy will overwhelm them; grief and suffering will disappear.
Now all discipline seems painful at the time, not joyful. But later it produces the fruit of peace and righteousness for those trained by it.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me – and I in him – bears much fruit, because apart from me you can accomplish nothing.
Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will trouble, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?As it is written, “For your sake we encounter death all day long; we were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”No, in all these things we have complete victory through him who loved us!
Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with you all.
that if our conscience condemns us, that God is greater than our conscience and knows all things.
In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried out to my God. From his heavenly temple he heard my voice; he listened to my cry for help.
But above all pursue his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
And, after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory in Christ will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
Shout for joy, O sky! Rejoice, O earth! Let the mountains give a joyful shout! For the Lord consoles his people and shows compassion to the oppressed.
Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God – what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.
There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears punishment has not been perfected in love.
For we do not have a high priest incapable of sympathizing with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way just as we are, yet without sin.Therefore let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and find grace whenever we need help.
The Lord is my high ridge, my stronghold, my deliverer. My God is my rocky summit where I take shelter, my shield, the horn that saves me, and my refuge.
for the one bringing forth in you both the desire and the effort – for the sake of his good pleasure – is God.
When you pass through the waters, I am with you; when you pass through the streams, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not harm you.
So then, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.
I look up toward the hills. From where does my help come?My help comes from the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth!
For I consider that our present sufferings cannot even be compared to the glory that will be revealed to us.
Praise the Lord, for it is good to sing praises to our God! Yes, praise is pleasant and appropriate!He is not enamored with the strength of a horse, nor is he impressed by the warrior’s strong legs.The Lord takes delight in his faithful followers, and in those who wait for his loyal love.Extol the Lord, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion!For he makes the bars of your gates strong. He blesses your children within you.He brings peace to your territory. He abundantly provides for you the best grain.He sends his command through the earth; swiftly his order reaches its destination.He sends the snow that is white like wool; he spreads the frost that is white like ashes.He throws his hailstones like crumbs. Who can withstand the cold wind he sends?He then orders it all to melt; he breathes on it, and the water flows.He proclaims his word to Jacob, his statutes and regulations to Israel.The Lord rebuilds Jerusalem, and gathers the exiles of Israel.He has not done so with any other nation; they are not aware of his regulations. Praise the Lord!He heals the brokenhearted, and bandages their wounds.
Examine me, and probe my thoughts! Test me, and know my concerns!See if there is any idolatrous tendency in me, and lead me in the reliable ancient path!
Look, God is my deliverer! I will trust in him and not fear. For the Lord gives me strength and protects me; he has become my deliverer.”
The Lord delivers and vindicates me! I fear no one! The Lord protects my life! I am afraid of no one!
Your conduct must be free from the love of money and you must be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you and I will never abandon you.”
Praise the Lord, O my soul! I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble and suffering, but take courage – I have conquered the world.”
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things.
Turn toward me and have mercy on me, for I am alone and oppressed!Deliver me from my distress; rescue me from my suffering!
We are experiencing trouble on every side, but are not crushed; we are perplexed, but not driven to despair;we are persecuted, but not abandoned; we are knocked down, but not destroyed,
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
He will shelter you with his wings; you will find safety under his wings. His faithfulness is like a shield or a protective wall.
Always rejoice,constantly pray,in everything give thanks. For this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Tell those who panic, “Be strong! Do not fear! Look, your God comes to avenge! With divine retribution he comes to deliver you.”
I relied completely on the Lord, and he turned toward me and heard my cry for help.I have not failed to tell about your justice; I spoke about your reliability and deliverance; I have not neglected to tell the great assembly about your loyal love and faithfulness.O Lord, you do not withhold your compassion from me. May your loyal love and faithfulness continually protect me!For innumerable dangers surround me. My sins overtake me so I am unable to see; they outnumber the hairs of my head so my strength fails me.Please be willing, O Lord, to rescue me! O Lord, hurry and help me!May those who are trying to snatch away my life be totally embarrassed and ashamed! May those who want to harm me be turned back and ashamed!May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!” be humiliated and disgraced!May all those who seek you be happy and rejoice in you! May those who love to experience your deliverance say continually, “May the Lord be praised!”I am oppressed and needy! May the Lord pay attention to me! You are my helper and my deliverer! O my God, do not delay!He lifted me out of the watery pit, out of the slimy mud. He placed my feet on a rock and gave me secure footing.He gave me reason to sing a new song, praising our God. May many see what God has done, so that they might swear allegiance to him and trust in the Lord!
Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
For everything there is an appointed time, and an appropriate time for every activity on earth:
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, we must get rid of every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and run with endurance the race set out for us,For they disciplined us for a little while as seemed good to them, but he does so for our benefit, that we may share his holiness.Now all discipline seems painful at the time, not joyful. But later it produces the fruit of peace and righteousness for those trained by it.Therefore, strengthen your listless hands and your weak knees,and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but be healed.Pursue peace with everyone, and holiness, for without it no one will see the Lord.See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God, that no one be like a bitter root springing up and causing trouble, and through him many become defiled.And see to it that no one becomes an immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal.For you know that later when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no opportunity for repentance, although he sought the blessing with tears.For you have not come to something that can be touched, to a burning fire and darkness and gloom and a whirlwindand the blast of a trumpet and a voice uttering words such that those who heard begged to hear no more.keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set out for him he endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.
But you, Lord, are a shield that protects me; you are my glory and the one who restores me.
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in him, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention.
I will give you thanks because your deeds are awesome and amazing. You knew me thoroughly;
Throw your burden upon the Lord, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the godly to be upended.
The spirit of the sovereign Lord is upon me, because the Lord has chosen me. He has commissioned me to encourage the poor, to help the brokenhearted, to decree the release of captives, and the freeing of prisoners,I will greatly rejoice in the Lord; I will be overjoyed because of my God. For he clothes me in garments of deliverance; he puts on me a robe symbolizing vindication. I look like a bridegroom when he wears a turban as a priest would; I look like a bride when she puts on her jewelry.For just as the ground produces its crops and a garden yields its produce, so the sovereign Lord will cause deliverance to grow, and give his people reason to praise him in the sight of all the nations.to announce the year when the Lord will show his favor, the day when our God will seek vengeance, to console all who mourn,to strengthen those who mourn in Zion, by giving them a turban, instead of ashes, oil symbolizing joy, instead of mourning, a garment symbolizing praise, instead of discouragement. They will be called oaks of righteousness, trees planted by the Lord to reveal his splendor.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; I do not give it to you as the world does. Do not let your hearts be distressed or lacking in courage.
And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose,
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.He takes me to lush pastures, he leads me to refreshing water.He restores my strength. He leads me down the right paths for the sake of his reputation.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding.Acknowledge him in all your ways, and he will make your paths straight.
My brothers and sisters, consider it nothing but joy when you fall into all sorts of trials,For human anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness.So put away all filth and evil excess and humbly welcome the message implanted within you, which is able to save your souls.But be sure you live out the message and do not merely listen to it and so deceive yourselves.For if someone merely listens to the message and does not live it out, he is like someone who gazes at his own face in a mirror.For he gazes at himself and then goes out and immediately forgets what sort of person he was.But the one who peers into the perfect law of liberty and fixes his attention there, and does not become a forgetful listener but one who lives it out – he will be blessed in what he does.If someone thinks he is religious yet does not bridle his tongue, and so deceives his heart, his religion is futile.Pure and undefiled religion before God the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their misfortune and to keep oneself unstained by the world.because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance.And let endurance have its perfect effect, so that you will be perfect and complete, not deficient in anything.
In my distress I cried out to the Lord. The Lord answered me and put me in a wide open place.The Lord is on my side, I am not afraid! What can people do to me?
Now to him who by the power that is working within us is able to do far beyond all that we ask or think,
You lead me in the path of life; I experience absolute joy in your presence; you always give me sheer delight.
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were bewildered and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
And my God will supply your every need according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
But those who wait for the Lord’s help find renewed strength; they rise up as if they had eagles’ wings, they run without growing weary, they walk without getting tired.
Now may the God of endurance and comfort give you unity with one another in accordance with Christ Jesus,so that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
