You're such an important person in your child's life. You're a leader in your home, guiding and teaching your children values and God's word. You're a role model for everyone around you. That's why everything you do matters, because your kids are watching and learning from your example.
The Bible says, "The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him" (Proverbs 23:24). God has placed you as the head of your household to lead and guide your family. Ask God for help, and He will show you how.
Just like a loving parent cares for their child, the Lord is compassionate to those who fear him (Psalm 103:13).
“Honor your father and your mother, that you may live a long time in the land the Lord your God is giving to you.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is right.Finally, be strengthened in the Lord and in the strength of his power.Clothe yourselves with the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.For this reason, take up the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand your ground on the evil day, and having done everything, to stand.Stand firm therefore, by fastening the belt of truth around your waist, by putting on the breastplate of righteousness,by fitting your feet with the preparation that comes from the good news of peace,and in all of this, by taking up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.With every prayer and petition, pray at all times in the Spirit, and to this end be alert, with all perseverance and requests for all the saints.Pray for me also, that I may be given the message when I begin to speak – that I may confidently make known the mystery of the gospel,“Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment accompanied by a promise, namely,for which I am an ambassador in chains. Listen, my child, to the instruction from your father, and do not forsake the teaching from your mother.For they will be like an elegant garland on your head, and like pendants around your neck.
My child, guard the commands of your father and do not forsake the instruction of your mother.Bind them on your heart continually; fasten them around your neck.When you walk about, they will guide you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; when you wake up, they will talk to you.
Honor your father and your mother just as the Lord your God has commanded you to do, so that your days may be extended and that it may go well with you in the land that he is about to give you.
Each of you must respect his mother and his father, and you must keep my Sabbaths. I am the Lord your God.
The father of a righteous person will rejoice greatly; whoever fathers a wise child will have joy in him.May your father and your mother have joy; may she who bore you rejoice.
The eye that mocks at a father and despises obeying a mother – the ravens of the valley will peck it out and the young vultures will eat it.
For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Whoever insults his father or mother must be put to death.’
‘Cursed is the one who disrespects his father and mother.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’
The Proverbs of Solomon: A wise child makes a father rejoice, but a foolish child is a grief to his mother.
Grandchildren are like a crown to the elderly, and the glory of children is their parents.
For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘Whoever insults his father or mother must be put to death.’
But if a widow has children or grandchildren, they should first learn to fulfill their duty toward their own household and so repay their parents what is owed them. For this is what pleases God.
Yes, sons are a gift from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward.Sons born during one’s youth are like arrows in a warrior’s hand.How blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! They will not be put to shame when they confront enemies at the city gate.
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but raise them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Train a child in the way that he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.
Then he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them. But his mother kept all these things in her heart.
Besides, we have experienced discipline from our earthly fathers and we respected them; shall we not submit ourselves all the more to the Father of spirits and receive life?
But if someone does not provide for his own, especially his own family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
The one who robs his father and chases away his mother is a son who brings shame and disgrace.
The one who curses his father and his mother, his lamp will be extinguished in the blackest darkness.
“See that you do not disdain one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.
A rod and reproof impart wisdom, but a child who is unrestrained brings shame to his mother.
How blessed is every one of the Lord’s loyal followers, each one who keeps his commands!You will eat what you worked so hard to grow. You will be blessed and secure.Your wife will be like a fruitful vine in the inner rooms of your house; your children will be like olive branches, as they sit all around your table.Yes indeed, the man who fears the Lord will be blessed in this way.
My child, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments,then your barns will be filled completely, and your vats will overflow with new wine.My child, do not despise discipline from the Lord, and do not loathe his rebuke.For the Lord disciplines those he loves, just as a father disciplines the son in whom he delights.Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who obtains understanding.For her benefit is more profitable than silver, and her gain is better than gold.She is more precious than rubies, and none of the things you desire can compare with her.Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.Her ways are very pleasant, and all her paths are peaceful.She is like a tree of life to those who obtain her, and everyone who grasps hold of her will be blessed.By wisdom the Lord laid the foundation of the earth; he established the heavens by understanding.for they will provide a long and full life, and they will add well-being to you.
These words I am commanding you today must be kept in mind,and you must teach them to your children and speak of them as you sit in your house, as you walk along the road, as you lie down, and as you get up.
Listen, children, to a father’s instruction, and pay attention so that you may gain discernment.Listen, my child, and accept my words, so that the years of your life will be many.I will guide you in the way of wisdom and I will lead you in upright paths.When you walk, your steps will not be hampered, and when you run, you will not stumble.Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; protect it, because it is your life.Do not enter the path of the wicked or walk in the way of those who are evil.Avoid it, do not go on it; turn away from it, and go on.For they cannot sleep unless they cause harm; they are robbed of sleep until they make someone stumble.For they eat bread gained from wickedness and drink wine obtained from violence.But the path of the righteous is like the bright morning light, growing brighter and brighter until full day.The way of the wicked is like gloomy darkness; they do not know what causes them to stumble.Because I give you good instruction, do not forsake my teaching.My child, pay attention to my words; listen attentively to my sayings.Do not let them depart from your sight, guard them within your heart;for they are life to those who find them and healing to one’s entire body.Guard your heart with all vigilance, for from it are the sources of life.Remove perverse speech from your mouth; keep devious talk far from your lips.Let your eyes look directly in front of you and let your gaze look straight before you.Make the path for your feet level, so that all your ways may be established.Do not turn to the right or to the left; turn yourself away from evil.When I was a son to my father, a tender only child before my mother,he taught me, and he said to me: “Let your heart lay hold of my words; keep my commands so that you will live.
As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on his faithful followers.
I have chosen him so that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just. Then the Lord will give to Abraham what he promised him.”
Discipline your child, for there is hope, but do not set your heart on causing his death.
So when Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing there, he said to his mother, “Woman, look, here is your son!”He then said to his disciple, “Look, here is your mother!” From that very time the disciple took her into his own home.
In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence, and it will be a refuge for his children.
You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I, the Lord, your God, am a jealous God, responding to the transgression of fathers by dealing with children to the third and fourth generations of those who reject me,and showing covenant faithfulness to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Do not withhold discipline from a child; even if you strike him with the rod, he will not die.If you strike him with the rod, you will deliver him from death.
Listen, my child, and accept my words, so that the years of your life will be many.I will guide you in the way of wisdom and I will lead you in upright paths.
Then our sons will be like plants, that quickly grow to full size. Our daughters will be like corner pillars, carved like those in a palace.
Fearing the Lord is the beginning of moral knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
My child, if you receive my words, and store up my commands within you,For wisdom will enter your heart, and moral knowledge will be attractive to you.Discretion will protect you, understanding will guard you,to deliver you from the way of the wicked, from those speaking perversity,who leave the upright paths to walk on the dark ways,who delight in doing evil, they rejoice in perverse evil;whose paths are morally crooked, and who are devious in their ways;to deliver you from the adulteress, from the sexually loose woman who speaks flattering words;who leaves the husband from her younger days, and forgets her marriage covenant made before God.For her house sinks down to death, and her paths lead to the place of the departed spirits.None who go in to her will return, nor will they reach the paths of life.by making your ear attentive to wisdom, and by turning your heart to understanding,So you will walk in the way of good people, and will keep on the paths of the righteous.For the upright will reside in the land, and those with integrity will remain in it,but the wicked will be removed from the land, and the treacherous will be torn away from it.indeed, if you call out for discernment – raise your voice for understanding –if you seek it like silver, and search for it like hidden treasure,then you will understand how to fear the Lord, and you will discover knowledge about God.
If the Lord does not build a house, then those who build it work in vain. If the Lord does not guard a city, then the watchman stands guard in vain.It is vain for you to rise early, come home late, and work so hard for your food. Yes, he can provide for those whom he loves even when they sleep.
Again, however, pay very careful attention, lest you forget the things you have seen and disregard them for the rest of your life; instead teach them to your children and grandchildren.
The one who spares his rod hates his child, but the one who loves his child is diligent in disciplining him.
The man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father, but whoever associates with prostitutes wastes his wealth.
and that you may so revere the Lord your God that you will keep all his statutes and commandments that I am giving you – you, your children, and your grandchildren – all your lives, to prolong your days.
As a mother consoles a child, so I will console you, and you will be consoled over Jerusalem.”
A foolish child is the ruin of his father, and a contentious wife is like a constant dripping.
Therefore, be imitators of God as dearly loved childrentrying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.For the things they do in secret are shameful even to mention.But all things being exposed by the light are made evident.For everything made evident is light, and for this reason it says: “Awake, O sleeper! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you!”Therefore be very careful how you live – not as unwise but as wise,taking advantage of every opportunity, because the days are evil.For this reason do not be foolish, but be wise by understanding what the Lord’s will is.And do not get drunk with wine, which is debauchery, but be filled by the Spirit,speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music in your hearts to the Lord,and live in love, just as Christ also loved us and gave himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.
and how from infancy you have known the holy writings, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
we will not hide from their descendants. We will tell the next generation about the Lord’s praiseworthy acts, about his strength and the amazing things he has done.How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and insulted him in the desert!They again challenged God, and offended the Holy One of Israel.They did not remember what he had done, how he delivered them from the enemy,when he performed his awesome deeds in Egypt, and his acts of judgment in the region of Zoan.He turned their rivers into blood, and they could not drink from their streams.He sent swarms of biting insects against them, as well as frogs that overran their land.He gave their crops to the grasshopper, the fruit of their labor to the locust.He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycamore-fig trees with driving rain.He rained hail down on their cattle, and hurled lightning bolts down on their livestock.His raging anger lashed out against them, He sent fury, rage, and trouble as messengers who bring disaster.He established a rule in Jacob; he set up a law in Israel. He commanded our ancestors to make his deeds known to their descendants,He sent his anger in full force; he did not spare them from death; he handed their lives over to destruction.He struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, the firstfruits of their reproductive power in the tents of Ham.Yet he brought out his people like sheep; he led them through the wilderness like a flock.He guided them safely along, while the sea covered their enemies.He brought them to the border of his holy land, to this mountainous land which his right hand acquired.He drove the nations out from before them; he assigned them their tribal allotments and allowed the tribes of Israel to settle down.Yet they challenged and defied the sovereign God, and did not obey his commands.They were unfaithful and acted as treacherously as their ancestors; they were as unreliable as a malfunctioning bow.They made him angry with their pagan shrines, and made him jealous with their idols.God heard and was angry; he completely rejected Israel.so that the next generation, children yet to be born, might know about them. They will grow up and tell their descendants about them.He abandoned the sanctuary at Shiloh, the tent where he lived among men.He allowed the symbol of his strong presence to be captured; he gave the symbol of his splendor into the hand of the enemy.He delivered his people over to the sword, and was angry with his chosen nation.Fire consumed their young men, and their virgins remained unmarried.Their priests fell by the sword, but their widows did not weep.But then the Lord awoke from his sleep; he was like a warrior in a drunken rage.He drove his enemies back; he made them a permanent target for insults.He rejected the tent of Joseph; he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim.He chose the tribe of Judah, and Mount Zion, which he loves.He made his sanctuary as enduring as the heavens above; as secure as the earth, which he established permanently.Then they will place their confidence in God. They will not forget the works of God, and they will obey his commands.
You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’”
May God enlarge Japheth’s territory and numbers! May he live in the tents of Shem and may Canaan be his slave!”
Teach them to your children and speak of them as you sit in your house, as you walk along the road, as you lie down, and as you get up.
But the one who listens to me will live in security, and will be at ease from the dread of harm.
In the same way, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.
When your children ask you later on, “What are the stipulations, statutes, and ordinances that the Lord our God commanded you?”you must say to them, “We were Pharaoh’s slaves in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt in a powerful way.And he brought signs and great, devastating wonders on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on his whole family before our very eyes.He delivered us from there so that he could give us the land he had promised our ancestors.The Lord commanded us to obey all these statutes and to revere him so that it may always go well for us and he may preserve us, as he has to this day.We will be innocent if we carefully keep all these commandments before the Lord our God, just as he demands.”
The one who gathers crops in the summer is a wise son, but the one who sleeps during the harvest is a son who brings shame to himself.
The one who troubles his family will inherit nothing, and the fool will be a servant to the wise person.
Love is patient, love is kind, it is not envious. Love does not brag, it is not puffed up.It is not rude, it is not self-serving, it is not easily angered or resentful.
In everything, treat others as you would want them to treat you, for this fulfills the law and the prophets.
Praise the Lord! How blessed is the one who obeys the Lord, who takes great delight in keeping his commands.When the wicked see this, they will worry; they will grind their teeth in frustration and melt away; the desire of the wicked will perish.His descendants will be powerful on the earth; the godly will be blessed.
A good name is to be chosen rather than great wealth, good favor more than silver or gold.
Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of you should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself.
Listen, children, to a father’s instruction, and pay attention so that you may gain discernment.
It is not glad about injustice, but rejoices in the truth.It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him.
For the commandments are like a lamp, instruction is like a light, and rebukes of discipline are like the road leading to life,

Likewise, know that wisdom is sweet to your soul; if you find it, you will have a future, and your hope will not be cut off.
Pay everyone what is owed: taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due.
“But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a huge millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the open sea.
A benevolent person leaves an inheritance for his grandchildren, but the wealth of a sinner is stored up for the righteous.
So Isaac called for Jacob and blessed him. Then he commanded him, “You must not marry a Canaanite woman!
Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice, set things right, be encouraged, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you.
My child, if your heart is wise, then my heart also will be glad;my soul will rejoice when your lips speak what is right.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things.
For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Whoever insults his father or mother must be put to death.’But you say, ‘If someone tells his father or mother, “Whatever help you would have received from me is given to God,”he does not need to honor his father.’ You have nullified the word of God on account of your tradition.

Owe no one anything, except to love one another, for the one who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
Her children rise up and call her blessed, her husband also praises her:“Many daughters have done valiantly, but you surpass them all!”
She went on to say, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have given birth to a son for him in his old age!”
The one who keeps the law is a discerning child, but a companion of gluttons brings shame to his parents.
For this is the love of God: that we keep his commandments. And his commandments do not weigh us down,
To obey the Lord is the fundamental principle for wise living; all who carry out his precepts acquire good moral insight. He will receive praise forever.
Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty but associate with the lowly. Do not be conceited.
For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity to indulge your flesh, but through love serve one another.For the whole law can be summed up in a single commandment, namely, “You must love your neighbor as yourself.”

Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,who comforts us in all our troubles so that we may be able to comfort those experiencing any trouble with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
Instead, be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.
Certainly O Lord, you are kind and forgiving, and show great faithfulness to all who cry out to you.
When Esau heard his father’s words, he wailed loudly and bitterly. He said to his father, “Bless me too, my father!”But Isaac replied, “Your brother came in here deceitfully and took away your blessing.”

She is clothed with strength and honor, and she can laugh at the time to come.She opens her mouth with wisdom, and loving instruction is on her tongue.

Jesus said to him, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’This is the first and greatest commandment.The second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom, and the favor of God was upon him.
Now listen to me, I will give you advice, and may God be with you: You be a representative for the people to God, and you bring their disputes to God;Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took Moses’ wife Zipporah after he had sent her back,warn them of the statutes and the laws, and make known to them the way in which they must walk and the work they must do.
“If your brother sins, go and show him his fault when the two of you are alone. If he listens to you, you have regained your brother.
“So now, children, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways.Listen to my instruction so that you may be wise, and do not neglect it.
Listen, my child, and be wise, and guide your heart on the right way.and put a knife to your throat if you possess a large appetite.Do not spend time among drunkards, among those who eat too much meat,because drunkards and gluttons become impoverished, and drowsiness clothes them with rags.
Joseph said to his father, “They are the sons God has given me in this place.” His father said, “Bring them to me so I may bless them.”
O God, you have taught me since I was young, and I am still declaring your amazing deeds.Even when I am old and gray, O God, do not abandon me, until I tell the next generation about your strength, and those coming after me about your power.
The living person, the living person, he gives you thanks, as I do today. A father tells his sons about your faithfulness.
And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
You must put away every kind of bitterness, anger, wrath, quarreling, and evil, slanderous talk.Instead, be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.
The Lord shows his faithful followers the way they should live.They experience his favor; their descendants inherit the land.
Brotherly love must continue.We have an altar that those who serve in the tabernacle have no right to eat from.For the bodies of those animals whose blood the high priest brings into the sanctuary as an offering for sin are burned outside the camp.Therefore, to sanctify the people by his own blood, Jesus also suffered outside the camp.We must go out to him, then, outside the camp, bearing the abuse he experienced.For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, acknowledging his name.And do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for God is pleased with such sacrifices.Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls and will give an account for their work. Let them do this with joy and not with complaints, for this would be no advantage for you.Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to conduct ourselves rightly in every respect.I especially ask you to pray that I may be restored to you very soon.Do not neglect hospitality, because through it some have entertained angels without knowing it.
But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not try to stop them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
But the Lord continually shows loyal love to his faithful followers, and is faithful to their descendants,to those who keep his covenant, who are careful to obey his commands.
And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose,
A whole generation will serve him; they will tell the next generation about the sovereign Lord.They will come and tell about his saving deeds; they will tell a future generation what he has accomplished.
In the same way, let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good deeds and give honor to your Father in heaven.
