Then Haman’s wife Zeresh and all his friends had a suggestion. They said, “Tell someone to build a post to hang him on! Make it 75 feet {\cf2\super [20]} tall! Then in the morning, ask the king to hang Mordecai on it. Then just go to the party with the king and you can be happy.”
Haman had just entered the outer area of the king’s palace. {\cf2\super [21]} He had come to ask the king to hang Mordecai on the hanging post Haman had commanded to be built. \{The king heard him.\} The king said, “Who just came into the courtyard?”
“I stood ready to accept people that turned against me. I was waiting for those people to come to me. But they continued living a way that is not good. They did anything their hearts wanted to do.
\{God said,\} “My people are foolish.\par They don’t know me.\par They are stupid children.\par They don’t understand.\par They are skillful at doing evil,\par but they don’t know how to do good.”\par
The Lord says these things:\par “Stand at the crossroads and look.\par Ask where the old road is.\par Ask where the good road is,\par and walk on that road.\par If you do, you will find rest for yourselves.\par But you people have said,\par ‘We will not walk on the good road!’\par
I have listened to them very carefully.\par But they don’t say what is right.\par The people are not sorry for their sins.\par The people don’t think about the bad things they have done.\par The people do things without thinking.\par They are like horses running into a battle.\par
Hate evil and love goodness.\par Bring fairness back into the courts.\par Maybe then the Lord God All-Powerful\par will be kind to the survivors {\cf2\super [70]} \par from Joseph’s family.\par
Trouble will come to people\par that make plans to sin.\par Those people lie on their beds\par making their evil plans\par Then when the morning light comes,\par they do the bad things they planned.\par Why? Simply because they have the power\par to do what they want.\par
Man, the Lord told you what goodness is.\par This is what the Lord wants from you:\par Be fair to other people.\par Love kindness and loyalty.\par Live humbly with your God.\par \{Don’t try to impress him with gifts.\}\par
The next morning some of the Jews made a plan. They wanted to kill Paul. The Jews made a promise (vow) to themselves that they would not eat or drink anything until they had killed Paul.
Those people know God’s law. They know God’s law says that people who live like that should die. But they continue to do those wrong things. And they say that people who do those things are doing right.
I know what you do. You work hard, and you never quit. I know that you don’t accept evil people. You have tested those people who say that they are apostles {\cf2\super [12]} but are really not. You found that they are liars.
Saul sent men to David’s house. The men watched David’s house. They stayed there all night. They were waiting to kill David in the morning. But David’s wife Michal warned him. She said, “You must run away tonight and save your life. If you don’t, then you will be killed tomorrow.”
