Micah 6 - Easy To Read Version

¹ Now hear what the Lord says:

² The Lord has a complaint\par against his people.\par Mountains, listen to the Lord’s complaint.\par Foundations of the earth, hear the Lord.\par He will prove that Israel is wrong!\par

³ \{The Lord says\},\par “My people, tell me what I did!\par Did I do something wrong against you?\par Did I make life too hard for you?\par

⁴ \{I will tell you the things I did!\}\par I sent Moses, Aaron, and Miriam to you.\par I brought you from the land of Egypt.\par I freed you from slavery.\par

⁵ My people, remember the \{evil\} plans\par of Balak king of Moab.\par Remember what Balaam son of Beor\par said to Balak.\par Remember the things that happened\par from Acacia to Gilgal {\cf2\super [73]} .\par Remember those things and\par you will know the Lord is right!”\par

⁶ What must I bring when I come\par to meet with the Lord?\par What must I do when I bow down\par to God above?\par Should I come to the Lord\par with burnt offerings and a year-old calf?\par

⁷ Will the Lord be pleased\par with 1,000 rams or 10,000 rivers of oil?\par Should I give my first child\par as payment for my crimes?\par Should I give the child\par that came from my body\par as payment for my sins?\par

⁸ Man, the Lord told you what goodness is.\par This is what the Lord wants from you:\par Be fair to other people.\par Love kindness and loyalty.\par Live humbly with your God.\par \{Don’t try to impress him with gifts.\}\par

⁹ The voice of the Lord shouts to the city.\par A wise person honors the Lord’s name. {\cf2\super [74]} \par So pay attention to the punishing rod.\par and to the One who holds that rod! {\cf2\super [75]} \par

¹⁰ Do the bad people still hide treasures\par that they have stolen?\par Do bad people still cheat people\par with baskets that are too small? {\cf2\super [76]} \par \{Yes! All of those things are still happening!\}\par

¹¹ Should I pardon the bad people who still\par use weights and scales to cheat people?\par Should I pardon the people who still\par have bags with weights that give the wrong measure?\par \{No!\}\par

¹² Rich people in that city are still cruel!\par The people in that city still tell lies.\par Yes, those people tell their lies!\par

¹³ So I have started to punish you.\par I will destroy you because of your sins.\par

¹⁴ You will eat,\par but you will not become full.\par You will still be hungry and empty. {\cf2\super [77]} \par You will try to bring people in to safety.\par But people with swords\par will kill the people you rescued!\par

¹⁵ You will plant your seeds,\par but you will not gather food.\par You will try to squeeze oil from your olives,\par but you will not get any oil.\par You will crush your grapes,\par but you will not get enough juice\par to have wine to drink.\par

¹⁶ Why? Because you obey the laws of Omri. {\cf2\super [78]} \par You do all the \{bad\} things\par that Ahab’s family does.\par You follow their teachings.\par So I will let you be destroyed.\par People will whistle in amazement\par when they see your destroyed city.\par Then you will bear the shame\par that the other nations bring to you. {\cf2\super [79]} \par
