I have made a special agreement with Abraham. I did this so he would command his children and his descendants [105] to live the way the Lord wants them to. I did this so they would live right and be fair. Then I, the Lord, can give him the things I promised.”


After Methuselah was born, Enoch walked with God for 300 years more. During that time, he had other sons and daughters.


But, some men from the areas of Asher, Manasseh, and Zebulun humbled themselves and went to Jerusalem.


But Hezekiah and those people living in Jerusalem changed their hearts and lives. They became humble and stopped being proud. So the Lord’s anger didn’t come on them while Hezekiah was alive.


Manasseh’s prayer and how God listened and felt sorry for him is written in The Book of the Seers. Also all of Manasseh’s sins and wrongs before he humbled himself, and the places where he built high places {\cf2\super [416]} and set up the Asherah Poles {\cf2\super [417]} are written in The Book of the Seers.


Amon did not humble himself in front of the Lord like Manasseh his father humbled himself. But Amon sinned more and more.


‘Josiah, you repented and you humbled yourself, and tore your clothes. {\cf2\super [434]} You cried before me. So, because your heart was tender,

God is high and lifted up.\par God lives forever.\par God’s name is holy.\par God says:\par I live in a high and holy place,\par but also with people that are\par sad and humble.\par I will give new life to the people\par that are humble in spirit.\par I will give new life to the people\par that are sad in their hearts.\par


I myself made all things.\par All things are here because I made them.”\par The Lord himself said these things.\par “Tell me, what people do I care for?\par I care for the poor people.\par I care for the people that are very sad.\par I care for people that obey my words.\par


Josiah helped the poor and needy people.\par Josiah did that,\par so everything went well for him.\par Jehoiakim, what does it mean\par “to know God?”\par It means living right and being fair.\par That is what it means to know me.\par This message is from the Lord.\par


The Lord says: Do the things that are fair and right. Protect the person that has been robbed from the person that robbed him. Don’t hurt or do anything wrong to orphans {\cf2\super [171]} or widows. {\cf2\super [172]} Don’t kill innocent people.


The Lord says:\par “Wise men must not brag\par about their wisdom.\par Strong men must not brag\par about their strength.\par Rich men must not brag\par about their money.\par


It is good for a person to wait quietly\par for the Lord to save him.\par


“Or maybe I will tell a bad person that he will die. But he might change his life. He might stop sinning and begin to live right. He might become good and fair.


Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, give praise, honor, and glory to the King of Heaven. Everything he does is right. He is always fair. And he is able to make proud people humble!


So come back to your God. Be loyal to him. Do the right thing! Always trust your God!


Why? Because I want faithful love,\par not sacrifice,\par \{I want people\} to know God,\par not \{to bring\} burnt offerings.\par


Maybe they will admit that I turned against them and brought them into the land of their enemies. Those people will be like strangers to me. But maybe they will become humble [453] and accept the punishment for their sin.


You should let fairness flow like water\par \{through your country\}.\par Let goodness flow like a stream\par that never becomes dry.\par


The voice of the Lord shouts to the city.\par A wise person honors the Lord’s name. {\cf2\super [74]} \par So pay attention to the punishing rod.\par and to the One who holds that rod! {\cf2\super [75]} \par


All you humble people, come to the Lord! Obey his laws. Learn to do good things. Learn to be humble. Maybe then you will be safe when the Lord shows his anger.


The Lord All-Powerful said these things.\par “You must do what is right and fair.\par You must be kind and merciful to each other.\par


“What great blessings there are for the people that \{know they\} have spiritual needs!\par The kingdom of heaven belongs to them.\par


What great blessings there are for the people that give mercy to other people!\par Mercy will be given to them.\par


Only one thing is important. Mary has made the right choice; and it will never be taken away from her.”


But it will be bad for you Pharisees! You give God one-tenth of \{everything you own\}—even your mint, your rue, and every other little plant in your garden. But you forget to be fair to other people and to love God. These are the things you should do. And you should also continue to do those other things—\{like giving one-tenth\}.


But Jesus said to him, “Who said that I should be your judge or decide how to divide your father’s things between you two?”


Give love and mercy the same as your Father gives love and mercy.


And if I don’t want to do the \{bad\} things I do, then that means that I agree that the law is good.


\{Don’t ask that.\} You are only people. And people have no right to question God. A clay jar does not question the man that made it. The jar does not say, “Why did you make me like this?”


Wives, maybe you will save your husband; and husbands, maybe you will save your wife. You don’t know now what will happen later.


So you must do everything that the Lord your God tells you. You must obey his commands and his laws that I am giving you today.”


“Today I have given you a choice between life and death, good and evil.


God has chosen you and made you his holy people. {\cf2\super [18]} He loves you. So always do these things: Show mercy to people; be kind, humble, gentle, and patient.


You foolish person! Must you be shown that faith that does nothing is worth nothing?


Then Joshua said to the people, “Now you have heard the Lord’s words. So you must respect the Lord and truly serve him. Throw away the false gods that your ancestors worshiped. That was something that happened a long time ago on the other side of the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Now you must serve only the Lord.


So all of you should live together in peace. Try to understand each other. Love each other like brothers. Be kind and humble.


And as for me, I would never stop praying for you. If I stopped praying for you, then I would be sinning against the Lord. I will continue to teach you the right way to live a good life.


But Samuel answered, “Which pleases the Lord more: burnt offerings and sacrifices [138] or obeying the Lord’s command? It is better to obey God than to offer sacrifices to him. It is better to listen to God than to offer the fat from rams.
