Joab saw that there were enemies in front of him and behind him. So Joab chose some of the best Israelite soldiers and lined them up for battle against the Arameans.


I did the things you say are wrong.\par God, you are the One I sinned against.\par I confess these things so people will know\par I am wrong, and you are right.\par Your decisions are fair.\par


“There is a loud noise in the mountains.\par Listen to the noise!\par It sounds like many, many people.\par People from many kingdoms\par are gathering together.\par The Lord All-Powerful is calling\par his army together.\par


The enemy’s arrows are sharp. All of their bows are ready to shoot. The horses’ feet are hard like rock. Clouds of dust rise from behind their chariots. {\cf2\super [57]}

Their armies have bows and spears.\par The soldiers are cruel.\par They have no mercy.\par The soldiers come riding on their horses,\par and the sound is loud like the roaring sea.\par They stand in their places, ready for battle.\par They are ready to attack you,\par city of Babylon.\par


Whoever found my people hurt them.\par And those enemies said,\par ‘We did nothing wrong.’\par Those people sinned against the Lord.\par The Lord was their true resting place.\par The Lord was the God\par that their fathers trusted in.\par


I will bring many nations together\par from the north.\par This group of nations will get ready for war\par against Babylon.\par Babylon will be captured by people\par from the north.\par Those nations will shoot many arrows\par at Babylon.\par Those arrows will be like soldiers\par that don’t come back from war\par with their hands empty.\par


I will send foreigners to winnow {\cf2\super [416]} Babylon,\par and they will take everything from the city.\par Armies will surround the city,\par and there will be terrible destruction.\par


“Lift up the war flag in the land!\par Blow the trumpet in all the nations!\par Prepare the nations for war against Babylon!\par Call these kingdoms to come fight\par against Babylon:\par Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz.\par Choose a commander to lead the army\par against her.\par Send so many horses\par that they are like a swarm of locusts. {\cf2\super [422]} \par


The Babylonian soldiers will not get to use\par their bows and arrows.\par Those soldiers will not even put on\par their armor.\par Don’t feel sorry for the soldiers of Babylon.\par Destroy her army completely!\par


You hurt many people in Lebanon. You stole many animals there. So you will be afraid because of the people that died and because of the bad things you did to that country. You will be afraid because of the things you did to those cities and to the people that lived in those cities.”


You have stolen things from many nations. So those people will take much from you. You have killed many people. You have destroyed lands and cities. You have killed all the people there.
