Gomer’s sons were: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.


One day Sennacherib was worshiping in the temple [241] of Nisroch, his god. His sons Adrammelech and Sharezer killed him with a sword. Then Adrammelech and Sharezer escaped into the land of Ararat. [242] And Sennacherib’s son Esarhaddon became the new king after him.


The sons of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, [2] and Togarmah.


\{Warn those people that something bad will happen to them.\} All the people in the world will see this thing happen to that nation. People will see this thing clearly like a flag raised on a mountain. All the people living on earth will hear about the thing that happens to these tall people. They will hear it clearly like the noise from a horn before a battle.


One day, Sennacherib was in the temple of his god, Nisroch, worshiping him. At that time his two sons, Adrammelech and Sharezer, killed him with a sword. Then the sons ran away to Ararat. {\cf2\super [359]} So Sennacherib’s son Esarhaddon became the new king of Assyria.


Yes, the people of Babylon will have to serve many nations and many great kings. I will give them the punishment they deserve for all the things they will do.”

“Announce this to all nations!\par Lift up a flag and announce the message!\par Speak the whole message and say,\par ‘The nation of Babylon will be captured.\par The god Bel {\cf2\super [407]} will be put to shame.\par The god Marduk {\cf2\super [408]} will be very afraid.\par Babylon’s idols will be put to shame.\par Her idol gods will be filled with terror.’\par


A nation from the north will attack Babylon.\par That nation will make Babylon\par like an empty desert.\par No people will live there.\par Both men and animals\par will run away from there.”\par


I will bring many nations together\par from the north.\par This group of nations will get ready for war\par against Babylon.\par Babylon will be captured by people\par from the north.\par Those nations will shoot many arrows\par at Babylon.\par Those arrows will be like soldiers\par that don’t come back from war\par with their hands empty.\par


Lift up a flag against the walls of Babylon.\par Bring more guards.\par Put the watchmen in their places.\par Get ready for a secret attack.\par The Lord will do what he has planned.\par He will do what he said he would do\par against the people of Babylon.\par


The Lord All-Powerful used his name\par to make this promise:\par “Babylon, I will fill you\par with many enemy soldiers.\par They will be like a swarm of locusts. {\cf2\super [420]} \par They will win their war against you.\par And they will stand over you\par and shout the cry of victory.”\par


Get the nations ready for battle against her.\par Get the kings of the Medes {\cf2\super [423]} ready.\par Get their governors and all their important officials ready.\par Get all the countries they rule ready for battle against Babylon.\par


Run for your lives, people of Benjamin!\par Run away from the city of Jerusalem!\par Blow the war trumpet in the city of Tekoa!\par Put up the warning flag\par in the city of Beth Hakkerem!\par Do these things because disaster is coming from the north. {\cf2\super [37]} \par Terrible destruction is coming to you.\par


Announce this among the nations:\par Prepare for war!\par Wake up the strong men!\par Let all the men of war come near.\par Let them come up!\par


If a trumpet blows a warning, then the people will surely shake with fear. If trouble comes to a city, then the Lord caused it.


I will bring all the nations together to fight against Jerusalem. They will capture the city and destroy the houses. The women will be raped, and half of the people will be taken away as prisoners. But the rest of the people will not be taken from the city.


The people of Midian came up and camped in the land. They brought their families and their animals with them. They were as many as swarms of locusts! There were so many of those people and their camels that it was not possible to count them. All of these people came into the land and ruined it.
