"Let us liedownin our shame,and let our humiliationcoverus; for we have sinnedagainst the LORDour God,we and our fathers,from our youtheven to thisday.And we have not obeyedthe voiceof the LORDour God."
"I spoketo you in your prosperity;But you said,'I will not listen!'Thishas been your practicefrom your youth,That you have not obeyedMy voice.
"As the thiefis shamedwhenhe is discovered,Sothe houseof Israelis shamed;They, their kings,their princesAnd their priestsand their prophets,
Thereforewhatbenefitwere you thenderivingfrom the things of whichyou are nowashamed?For the outcomeof those thingsis death.
"Manyof those whosleepin the dustof the groundwill awake,theseto everlastinglife,but the othersto disgrace[and] everlastingcontempt.
"I am not doing[this] for your sake,"declaresthe LordGOD,"let it be knownto you. Be ashamedand confoundedfor your ways,O houseof Israel!"
They will girdthemselves with sackclothand shudderingwill overwhelmthem; and shame[will be] on allfacesand baldnesson alltheir heads.
The crownhas fallenfrom our head;Woeto us, for we have sinned!
Our fatherssinned,[and] are nomore;It is we who have bornetheir iniquities.
O daughterof my people,puton sackclothAnd rollin ashes;Mournas for an onlyson,A lamentationmostbitter.For suddenlythe destroyerWill comeupon us.
"Your own wickednesswill correctyou, And your apostasieswill reproveyou; Knowtherefore and seethat it is eviland bitterFor you to forsakethe LORDyour God,And the dreadof Me is not in you," declaresthe LordGODof hosts.
"Have you not donethisto yourself By your forsakingthe LORDyour GodWhenHe ledyou in the way?
"Goand proclaimin the earsof Jerusalem,saying,'Thussaysthe LORD,"I rememberconcerning you the devotionof your youth,The loveof your betrothals,Your followingafterMe in the wilderness,Through a landnot sown.
Behold,allyou who kindlea fire,Who encircleyourselves with firebrands,Walkin the lightof your fireAnd among the brandsyou have setablaze.Thisyou will havefrom My hand:You will liedownin torment.
"You have not heard,you have not known.Evenfrom longagoyour earhas not been open,BecauseI knewthat you would dealverytreacherously;And you have been calleda rebelfrom birth.
"I have not listenedto the voiceof my teachers,Norinclinedmy earto my instructors!
Let my accusersbe clothedwith dishonor,And let them coverthemselves with their own shameas with a robe.
Our fathersin Egyptdid not understandYour wonders;They did not rememberYour abundantkindnesses,But rebelledby the sea,at the RedSea.
and as for you, you shall makenocovenantwith the inhabitantsof thisland;you shall teardowntheir altars.'But you have not obeyedMe; whatis thisyou have done?
We have sinnedlikeour fathers,We have committediniquity,we have behavedwickedly.
Onlyacknowledgeyour iniquity,That you have transgressedagainst the LORDyour GodAnd have scatteredyour favorsto the strangersundereverygreentree,And you have not obeyedMy voice,'declaresthe LORD.
Whyare we sittingstill?Assembleyourselves, and let us gointo the fortifiedcitiesAnd let us perishthere,Becausethe LORDour Godhas doomedus And givenus poisonedwaterto drink,For we have sinnedagainst the LORD.
"Althoughour iniquitiestestifyagainst us, O LORD,actfor Your name'ssake!Trulyour apostasieshave beenmany,We have sinnedagainst You.
We knowour wickedness,O LORD,The iniquityof our fathers,for we have sinnedagainst You.
Whydid I evercomeforthfrom the wombTo lookon troubleand sorrow,So that my dayshave beenspentin shame?
For afterI turnedback,I repented;And afterI was instructed,I smoteon [my] thigh;I was ashamedand alsohumiliatedBecauseI borethe reproachof my youth.'
Then He saidto me, "Sonof man,I am sendingyou to the sonsof Israel,to a rebelliouspeoplewhohave rebelledagainst Me; they and their fathershave transgressedagainst Me to thisveryday.
Povertyand shame[will come] to him who neglectsdiscipline,But he who regardsreproofwill be honored.
"Do they spiteMe?" declaresthe LORD."Is it not themselves [they spite], to their ownshame?"
"Let them makehasteand takeup a wailingfor us, That our eyesmay shedtearsAnd our eyelidsflowwith water.
"For your godsare as manyas your cities,O Judah;and as manyas the streetsof Jerusalemare the altarsyou have setup to the shamefulthing,altarsto burnincenseto Baal.
"They have sownwheatand have reapedthorns,They have strainedthemselves to noprofit.But be ashamedof your harvestBecauseof the fierceangerof the LORD."
"And they shall not comenearto Me to serveas a priestto Me, norcomenearto anyof My holythings,to the thingsthat are mostholy;but they will beartheir shameand their abominationswhichthey have committed.
I foundIsraellike grapesin the wilderness;I sawyour forefathersas the earliestfruiton the figtreein its first[season]. [But] they cameto Baal-peorand devotedthemselves to shame,And they becameas detestableas that whichthey loved.
I will bringdistresson menSo that they will walklike the blind,Becausethey have sinnedagainst the LORD;And their bloodwill be pouredout like dustAnd their fleshlike dung.
