And thesealsoreelwith wineand staggerfrom strongdrink:The priestand the prophetreelwith strongdrink,They are confusedby wine,they staggerfrom strongdrink;They reelwhile having visions,They totter[when rendering] judgment.
"Be on guard,sothat your heartswill not be weighted downwith dissipationand drunkennessand the worriesof life,and that daywill not comeon you suddenlylikea trap;
"But immediatelyafterthe tribulationof thosedaysTHE SUNWILL BE DARKENED,AND THE MOONWILL NOT GIVEITS LIGHT,AND THE STARSWILL FALLfrom the sky,and the powersof the heavenswill be shaken.
The LORDhas mixedwithinher a spiritof distortion;They have ledEgyptastrayin allthat it does,As a drunkenmanstaggersin his vomit.
Blessedare you, O land,whosekingis of nobilityand whose princeseatat the appropriate time--for strengthand not for drunkenness.
Wineis a mocker,strongdrinka brawler,And whoeveris intoxicatedby it is not wise.
"Ifa manwalkingafter windand falsehoodHad toldlies[and said], 'I will speakout to you concerning wineand liquor,'He would be spokesmanto thispeople.
Thussaysthe LORDof hosts,"Do not listento the wordsof the prophetswho are prophesyingto you. They are leadingyou into futility;They speaka visionof their own imagination,Not from the mouthof the LORD.
Then the LORDsaidto me, "The prophetsare prophesyingfalsehoodin My name.I have neithersentthem norcommandedthem norspokento them; they are prophesyingto you a false vision,divination,futilityand the deceptionof their own minds.
O My people!Their oppressorsare children,And womenruleover them. O My people!Those who guideyou lead[you] astrayAnd confusethe directionof your paths.
They reeledand staggeredlike a drunkenman,And were at their wits'end.
Sohusbandsoughtalsoto lovetheir ownwivesas their ownbodies.He who loveshis ownwifeloveshimself;
"Norshall anyof the priestsdrinkwinewhen they enterthe innercourt.
"Did you not seea false visionand speaka lyingdivinationwhen you said,'The LORDdeclares,'but it is not I who have spoken?"'"
He has bentHis bowlike an enemy;He has setHis righthandlike an adversaryAnd slainallthat were pleasantto the eye;In the tentof the daughterof ZionHe has pouredout His wrathlike fire.
"Moreover, among the prophetsof SamariaI sawan offensivething:They prophesiedby Baaland ledMy peopleIsraelastray.
The entirevisionwill be to you like the wordsof a sealedbook,whichwhen they giveit to the one who is literate,saying,"Pleasereadthis,"he will say,"I cannot,for it is sealed."
And the peoplewill be like the priest,the servantlike his master,the maidlike her mistress,the buyerlike the seller,the lenderlike the borrower,the creditorlike the debtor.
Instead, there is gaietyand gladness,Killingof cattleand slaughteringof sheep,Eatingof meatand drinkingof wine:"Let us eatand drink,for tomorrowwe may die."
Woeto those who are heroesin drinkingwineAnd valiantmenin mixingstrongdrink,
Woeto those who riseearlyin the morningthat they may pursuestrongdrink,Who stayup latein the eveningthat winemay inflamethem!
Those who lingerlong overwine,Those who goto tastemixedwine.
The earthreelsto and frolike a drunkardAnd it totterslike a shack,For its transgressionis heavyupon it, And it will fall,neverto riseagain.
Woeto the proudcrownof the drunkardsof Ephraim,And to the fadingflowerof its gloriousbeauty,Whichis at the headof the fertilevalleyOf those who are overcomewith wine!
"Your firstforefathersinned,And your spokesmenhave transgressedagainst Me.
On the dayof our king,the princesbecamesickwith the heatof wine;He stretchedout his handwith scoffers,
"Woeto you who make your neighborsdrink,Who mixin your venomevento make[them] drunkSoas to lookon their nakedness!
"You will be filledwith disgraceratherthanhonor.Nowyou yourselfdrinkand exposeyour [own] nakedness.The cupin the LORD'Srighthandwill comearoundto you, And utterdisgrace[will come] upon your glory.
Who justifythe wickedfor a bribe,And takeawaythe rightsof the ones whoare in the right!
