"Then those of you whoescapewill rememberMe among the nationsto whichthey will be carriedcaptive,howI have been hurtby their adulterousheartswhichturnedawayfrom Me, and by their eyeswhich playedthe harlotaftertheir idols;and they will loathethemselves in their own sightfor the evilswhichthey have committed,for alltheir abominations.
Now KingAhazwentto Damascusto meetTiglath-pileserkingof Assyria,and sawthe altarwhich[was] at Damascus;and KingAhazsentto Urijahthe priestthe patternof the altarand its model,according to allits workmanship.
ThereforeI retract,And I repentin dustand ashes."
By the riversof Babylon,Therewe satdownand wept,When we rememberedZion.
Howoftenthey rebelledagainst Him in the wildernessAnd grievedHim in the desert!
"You have boughtMe not sweetcanewith money,Norhave you filledMe with the fatof your sacrifices;Ratheryou have burdenedMe with your sins,You have weariedMe with your iniquities.
But they rebelledAnd grievedHis HolySpirit;Therefore He turnedHimself to become their enemy,He foughtagainst them.
For allof us have becomelike one who is unclean,And allour righteousdeedsare like a filthygarment;And allof us witherlike a leaf,And our iniquities,like the wind,takeus away.
Then he said,"Listennow,O houseof David!Is it tooslighta thingfor you to trythe patienceof men,that you will trythe patienceof my Godas well?
Onlyacknowledgeyour iniquity,That you have transgressedagainst the LORDyour GodAnd have scatteredyour favorsto the strangersundereverygreentree,And you have not obeyedMy voice,'declaresthe LORD.
Then the LORDsaidto me in the daysof Josiahthe king,"Have you seenwhatfaithlessIsraeldid?She wentup on everyhighhilland undereverygreentree,and she was a harlotthere.
You whohave escapedthe sword,Depart!Do not stay!Rememberthe LORDfrom afar,And let Jerusalemcometo your mind.
"But I will sparea fewof them from the sword,the famineand the pestilencethat they may tellalltheir abominationsamong the nationswherethey go,and may knowthat I am the LORD."
"Becauseyou have not rememberedthe daysof your youthbut have enragedMe by allthesethings,behold,I in turnwill bringyour conductdownon your own head,"declaresthe LordGOD,"so that you will not committhis lewdnesson topof allyour [other] abominations.
"Then you will rememberyour waysand be ashamedwhen you receiveyour sisters,[both] your olderand your younger;and I will givethem to you as daughters,but not becauseof your covenant.
so that you may rememberand be ashamedand neveropenyour mouthanymorebecauseof your humiliation,when I have forgivenyou for allthat you have done,"the LordGODdeclares.
becausethey had not observedMy ordinances,but had rejectedMy statutesand had profanedMy sabbaths,and their eyeswere on the idolsof their fathers.
"When I had broughtthem into the landwhichI sworeto giveto them, then they saweveryhighhilland everyleafytree,and they offeredtheretheir sacrificesand therethey presentedthe provocationof their offering.Therealso they madetheir soothingaromaand therethey pouredout their drinkofferings.
"Thereyou will rememberyour waysand allyour deedswith whichyou have defiledyourselves; and you will loatheyourselves in your own sightfor allthe evilthingsthat you have done.
"I saidto them, 'Castaway,eachof you, the detestablethingsof his eyes,and do not defileyourselves with the idolsof Egypt;I am the LORDyour God.'
Thesethingswill be doneto you because you have playedthe harlotwith the nations,becauseyou have defiledyourself with their idols.
Thus My angerwill be spentand I will satisfyMy wrathon them, and I will be appeased;then they will knowthat I, the LORD,have spokenin My zealwhen I have spentMy wrathupon them.
"Then they will knowthat I am the LORD;I have not saidin vainthat I would inflictthisdisasteron them."'
Even when their survivorsescape,they will be on the mountainslike dovesof the valleys,allof them mourning,eachover his own iniquity.
Howcan I giveyou up, O Ephraim?How can I surrenderyou, O Israel?Howcan I makeyou like Admah?How can I treatyou like Zeboiim?My heartis turnedoverwithinMe, AllMy compassionsare kindled.
"Behold,I am weighteddownbeneathyou As a wagonis weighteddownwhen filledwith sheaves.
"I will cutoffyour carvedimagesAnd your [sacred] pillarsfrom amongyou, So that you will nolongerbowdownTo the workof your hands.
"When I scatterthem among the peoples,They will rememberMe in farcountries,And they with their childrenwill liveand comeback.
"It shall be a tasselfor you to lookat and rememberallthe commandmentsof the LORD,so as to dothem and not followafteryour own heartand your own eyes,afterwhichyou playedthe harlot,
havingeyesfullof adulterythat never ceasefrom sin,enticingunstablesouls,havinga hearttrainedin greed,accursedchildren;
