But you, my brothers, have not been loyal.\par I can’t depend on you.\par You are like streams that flow sometimes\par and don’t flow at other times.\par You are like streams that overflow\par


People tell lies to their neighbors.\par Each and every person flatters {\cf2\super [68]} his\par neighbors with lies.\par


The Lord should cut off those lips\par that tell lies.\par The Lord should cut out those tongues\par that tell their big stories.\par


My brothers treat me like a stranger.\par My mother’s sons treat me like a foreigner.\par


And if you eat his food, then you will become sick. And you will be embarrassed.


The things he says might seem good. But don’t trust him. His heart is full of evil ideas.


The Lord told me: “When a lion or a lion’s cub catches an animal to eat, the lion stands over the dead animal and roars. At that time nothing can scare that great lion. If men come and yell at the lion, the lion will not be afraid. The men can make much noise, but the lion will not run away.”


Before the Lord showed me that the people were against me, I was like a gentle lamb waiting to be butchered. I did not understand that they were against me. They were saying these things about me: “Let us destroy the tree and its fruit! Let us kill him! Then people will forget him.”


The men from Anathoth were planning to kill Jeremiah. Those men said to Jeremiah, “Don’t prophesy {\cf2\super [100]} in the name of the Lord, or we will kill you.” The Lord made a decision about those men from Anathoth.


I hear people whispering against me.\par Everywhere, I hear things that scare me.\par Even my friends are saying things\par against me.\par People are just waiting for me\par to make some mistake.\par They are saying,\par “Let us lie and say he did some bad thing.\par Maybe we can trick Jeremiah.\par Then we will have him.\par We will finally be rid of him.\par Then we will grab him\par and take our revenge on him.”\par

Every person lies to his neighbor.\par No person speaks the truth.\par The people of Judah have taught\par their tongues to lie.\par They sinned until they were too tired\par to come back.\par


“Brothers will turn against their own brothers and give them to be killed. Fathers will turn against their own children and give them to be killed. Children will fight against their own parents and will send their parents to be killed.


These Jewish leaders heard this story that Jesus told. They knew that this story was about them. So they wanted to find a way to arrest Jesus. But they were afraid of the people. So the Jewish leaders left Jesus and went away.


(Even Jesus’ brothers did not believe in him.)


The people were against Paul and Silas. Then the leaders tore the clothes of Paul and Silas and told some men to beat Paul and Silas with rods.


Gallio became the governor of the country of Achaia. At that time, some of the Jews came together against Paul. They took Paul to the court.
