When you choose to live without God, it's easy to lose that awareness of Him and start making choices that aren't aligned with His ways. Maybe you haven't truly encountered Him yet. Our hearts can be so deceitful, always looking for ways to satisfy our own twisted desires, driven by that inner restlessness.
The only way to live a righteous life is to keep God's word close to your heart and follow His will. That's how genuine goodness grows from deep within.
God isn't pleased when offerings are misused. They should be used to grow His work and spread the Gospel to everyone, fulfilling the command He gave us. Prayer is key to making sure your offerings are used the right way and that you're following God's leading.
Moreover, you shall not followthe customsof the nationwhichI will driveout beforeyou, for they didallthesethings,and therefore I have abhorredthem.
Hence I have saidto you, "You are to possesstheir land,and I Myselfwill giveit to you to possessit, a landflowingwith milkand honey."I am the LORDyour God,whohas separatedyou from the peoples.
You are therefore to makea distinctionbetweenthe cleananimaland the unclean,and betweenthe uncleanbirdand the clean;and you shall not makeyourselvesdetestableby animalor by birdor by anythingthat creepson the ground,whichI have separatedfor you as unclean.
And He alsotoldthisparableto some peoplewho trustedin themselvesthat they were righteous,and viewedotherswith contempt:
"Twomenwentup into the templeto pray,onea Phariseeand the othera tax collector.
"The Phariseestoodand was prayingthisto himself:'God,I thankYou that I amnot likeother people:swindlers,unjust,adulterers,orevenlikethistax collector.
I fasttwicea week;I pay tithesof allthat I get.'
"But the tax collector,standingsome distance away,was evenunwillingto liftup his eyesto heaven,but was beatinghis breast,saying,'God,be mercifulto me, the sinner!'
"I tellyou, this manwentto his housejustifiedrather thanthe other;for everyonewho exaltshimselfwill be humbled,but he who humbleshimselfwill be exalted."
"'A sonhonors[his] father,and a servanthis master.Then ifI am a father,whereis My honor?And ifI am a master,whereis My respect?'saysthe LORDof hoststo you, O priestswho despiseMy name.But you say,'Howhave we despisedYour name?'
"[You] are presentingdefiledfoodupon My altar.But you say,'Howhave we defiledYou?' In that you say,The tableof the LORDis to be despised.'
"But whenyou presentthe blindfor sacrifice,is it not evil?And whenyou presentthe lameand sick,is it not evil?Why not offerit to your governor?Would he be pleasedwith you? Orwould he receiveyou kindly?"saysthe LORDof hosts.
So it cameabout in the courseof timethat Cainbroughtan offeringto the LORDof the fruitof the ground.
Abel,on his partalsobroughtof the firstlingsof his flockand of their fatportions.And the LORDhadregardfor Abeland for his offering;
but for Cainand for his offeringHe hadnoregard.So Cainbecameveryangryand his countenancefell.
Whateverhas a defect,you shall not offer,for it will not be acceptedfor you.
Whena manoffersa sacrificeof peaceofferingsto the LORDto fulfilla specialvoworfor a freewilloffering,of the herdorof the flock,it must be perfectto be accepted;there shall be nodefectin it.
Those [that are] blindorfracturedormaimedorhaving a runningsoreoreczemaorscabs,you shall not offerto the LORD,normakeof them an offeringby fireon the altarto the LORD.
"You also say,My, howtiresomeit is!' And you disdainfullysniffat it," saysthe LORDof hosts,"and you bringwhat was takenby robberyand [what is] lameor sick;so you bringthe offering!Should I receivethat from your hand?"saysthe LORD.
"But cursedbe the swindlerwho hasa malein his flockand vowsit, but sacrificesa blemishedanimalto the Lord,for I am a greatKing,"saysthe LORDof hosts,"and My nameis fearedamong the nations."
"Whatare your multipliedsacrificesto Me?" Saysthe LORD."I have hadenoughof burntofferingsof ramsAnd the fatof fedcattle;And I takenopleasurein the bloodof bulls,lambsor goats.
"Whenyou cometo appearbeforeMe, Whorequiresof you thistramplingof My courts?
"Bringyour worthlessofferingsnolonger,Incenseis an abominationto Me. Newmoonand sabbath,the callingof assemblies--I cannotendureiniquityand the solemnassembly.
And He lookedup and sawthe richputtingtheir giftsinto the treasury.
And He sawa poorwidowputtingin twosmall copper coins.
And He said,"TrulyI sayto you, thispoorwidowputin morethan all[of them];
for they allout of their surplusputinto the offering;but she out of her povertyputin allthat she hadto liveon."
"I hate,I rejectyour festivals,Nordo I delightin your solemnassemblies.
"Eventhoughyou offerup to Me burntofferingsand your grain offerings,I will not accept[them]; And I will not [even] lookat the peaceofferingsof your fatlings.
"Takeawayfrom Me the noiseof your songs;I will not even listento the soundof your harps.
With whatshall I cometo the LORD[And] bowmyself before the Godon high?Shall I cometo Him with burntofferings,With yearlingcalves?
Does the LORDtakedelightin thousandsof rams,In tenthousandriversof oil?Shall I presentmy firstborn[for] my rebelliousacts,The fruitof my bodyfor the sinof my soul?
He has toldyou, O man,whatis good;And whatdoes the LORDrequireof you But to dojustice,to lovekindness,And to walkhumblywith your God?
"Bewareof practicingyour righteousnessbeforemento be noticedby them; otherwiseyou havenorewardwith your Fatherwhois in heaven.
"Sowhenyou giveto the poor, do not sound a trumpetbeforeyou, as the hypocritesdoin the synagoguesand in the streets,sothat they may be honoredby men.TrulyI sayto you, they havetheir rewardin full.
"But when you giveto the poor, do not let your left handknowwhatyour right handis doing,
sothat your givingwill be in secret;and your Fatherwho sees[what is done] in secretwill rewardyou.
And He sat downoppositethe treasury,and [began] observinghowthe peoplewere puttingmoneyinto the treasury;and manyrich peoplewere puttingin large sums.
A poorwidowcameand putin twosmall copper coins,whichamountto a cent.
CallingHis disciplesto Him, He saidto them, "TrulyI sayto you, thispoorwidowputin morethan allthe contributorsto the treasury;
for they allputin out of their surplus,but she, out of her poverty,putin allshe owned,allshe had to liveon."
Guardyour stepsas you goto the houseof Godand drawnearto listenratherthanto offerthe sacrificeof fools;for they do not knowthey are doingevil.
Do not be hastyin wordor impulsivein thoughtto bringup a matterin the presenceof God.For Godis in heavenand you are on the earth;thereforelet your wordsbe few.
"Will a manrobGod?Yetyou are robbingMe! But you say,'Howhave we robbedYou?' In tithesand offerings.
"You are cursedwith a curse,for you are robbingMe, the wholenation[of you]!
"Bringthe wholetitheinto the storehouse,so that there may be foodin My house,and testMe nowin this,"saysthe LORDof hosts,"ifI will not openfor you the windowsof heavenand pourout for you a blessinguntilit overflows.
For ifthe readinessis present,it is acceptableaccordingto what [a person] has,not accordingto what he does not have.
For [this] is not for the easeof others[and] for your affliction,but by wayof equality--
at thispresenttimeyour abundance[being a] [supply] for their need,sothat their abundancealsomay become[a supply] for your need,that there may be equality;
as it is written,"HE WHO [gathered] MUCHDID NOT HAVE TOO MUCH,AND HE WHO [gathered] LITTLEHADNOLACK."
But a mannamedAnanias,with his wifeSapphira,solda piece of property,
and kept back[some] of the pricefor himself, with his wife'sfull knowledge,and bringinga portionof it, he laidit at the apostles'feet.
But Petersaid,"Ananias,whyhas Satanfilledyour heartto lieto the HolySpiritand to keep back[some] of the priceof the land?
"While it remained[unsold], did it not remainyour own? And after it was sold,was it not underyour control?Whyis it that you have conceivedthisdeedin your heart?You have not liedto menbut to God."
Instructthosewho are richin thispresentworldnot to be conceitedorto fix their hopeon the uncertaintyof riches,but on God,who richlysuppliesus with all thingsto enjoy.
[Instruct them] to do good,to be richin goodworks,to be generousand ready to share,
storingup for themselvesthe treasureof a goodfoundationfor the future,sothat they may take holdof that which is lifeindeed.
