They shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. The land was polluted with blood.


The earth also is polluted under its inhabitants, because they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, and broken the everlasting covenant.


“For long ago I broke off your yoke, and burst your bonds. You said, ‘I will not serve;’ for on every high hill and under every green tree you bowed yourself, playing the prostitute.


“How can you say, ‘I am not defiled. I have not gone after the Baals’? See your way in the valley. Know what you have done. You are a swift dromedary traversing her ways,


I brought y’all into a plentiful land to eat its fruit and its goodness. But when y’all entered, y’all defiled my land, and y’all made my heritage an abomination.


“You are to go up to Lebanon and cry out. Lift up your voice in Bashan, and cry from Abarim, for all your lovers have been destroyed.

Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long will your evil thoughts lodge within you?


She weeps-weeps in the night. Her tears are on her cheeks. Among all her lovers she has no one to comfort her. All her friends have dealt treacherously with her. They have become her enemies.


You have also committed sexual immorality with the Egyptians, your neighbors, great of flesh; and have multiplied your prostitution, to provoke me to anger.


“‘“How weak is your heart,” says Lord YHWH, “since you do all these things, the work of an impudent prostitute;


“Therefore, prostitute, hear the word of YHWH:


Tell them, ‘“As surely as I live,” says Lord YHWH, “I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Y’all must turn, turn from your* evil ways! Why will y’all die, house of Israel?”’


When YHWH began to spoke through Hosea, YHWH said to Hosea, “Go, take for yourself a wife of promiscuity and children of promiscuity, for the land is promiscuous-promiscuous, forsaking YHWH.”


Y’all must rebuke your* mother, rebuke her! For she is not my wife, and I am not her husband. Let her put away her prostitution from her face, and her adulteries from between her breasts.


Y’all must get up go! For this is not a resting place, because uncleanness destroys with a grievous destruction.


Therefore you are to tell them, YHWH Almighty says: ‘Y’all must return to me,’ says YHWH Almighty, ‘and I will return to y’all,’ says YHWH Almighty.


“It was also said, ‘Whoever sends away his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce,’


then they must bring the young lady to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city are to stone her to death with stones, because she has done folly in Israel and played the prostitute in her father’s house. So you must purge the evil from among you.


His concubine played the prostitute against him, and went away from him to her father’s house to Bethlehem Judah, and was there for four months.
