Therefore the Lord God of Armies, the Mighty One of Israel, declares: ‘Ah, I will get even with my foes; I will take revenge against my enemies.


Wail! For the day of the  Lord is near. It will come as destruction from the Almighty.


For a day belonging to the  Lord of Armies is coming against all that is proud and lofty, against all that is lifted up #– #it will be humbled –


When he has swallowed up death once and for all, the Lord God will wipe away the tears from every face and remove his people’s disgrace from the whole earth, for the Lord has spoken.


The Lord is angry with all the nations, furious with all their armies. He will set them apart for destruction, giving them over to slaughter.


For the Lord has a day of vengeance, a time of paying back Edom for its hostility against Zion.


Say to the cowardly: ‘Be strong; do not fear! Here is your God; vengeance is coming. God’s retribution is coming; he will save you.’


‘Comfort, comfort my people,’ says your God.


This is what the  Lord  says: I will answer you in a time of favour, and I will help you in the day of salvation. I will keep you, and I will appoint you to be a covenant for the people, to restore the land, to make them possess the desolate inheritances,


I #– #I am the one who comforts you. Who are you that you should fear humans who die, or a son of man who is given up like grass?


I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will lead him and restore comfort to him and his mourners,


Will the fast I choose be like this: A day for a person to deny himself, to bow his head like a reed, and to spread out sackcloth and ashes? Will you call this a fast and a day acceptable to the  Lord?


Foreigners will rebuild your walls, and their kings will serve you. Although I struck you in my wrath, yet I will show mercy to you with my favour.


You will see, you will rejoice, and you  will flourish like grass; then the Lord’s power will be revealed to his servants, but he will show his wrath against his enemies.


Then the young women will rejoice with dancing, while young and old men rejoice together. I will turn their mourning into joy, give them consolation, and bring happiness out of grief.


That day belongs to the Lord, the  God of Armies, a day of vengeance to avenge himself against his adversaries. The sword will devour and be satisfied; it will drink its fill of their blood, because it will be a sacrifice  to the Lord, the  God of Armies, in the northern land by the River Euphrates.


As for me, however, I am filled with power by the Spirit of the  Lord, with justice and courage, to proclaim to Jacob his rebellion and to Israel his sin.


Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Blessed are you who are hungry now, because you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, because you will laugh.


For he says: At an acceptable time I listened to you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.   , See, now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation!


by keeping us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. As a result, they are constantly filling up their sins to the limit,  and wrath has overtaken them at last.
