Now Absalom commanded his young men, ‘Watch Amnon until he is in a good mood from the wine. When I order you to strike Amnon, then kill him. Don’t be afraid. Am I not the one who has commanded you? Be strong and valiant! ’

He committed the most detestable acts by following idols  as the Amorites  had, whom the Lord had dispossessed before the Israelites.

When Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Azariah son of Oded the prophet, he took courage and removed the abhorrent idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim.  He renovated the altar of the Lord that was in front of the portico of the Lord’s temple.

Even these stagger because of wine and stumble under the influence of beer: Priest and prophet stagger because of beer. They are confused by wine. They stumble because of beer. They are muddled in their visions. They stumble in their judgements.

Woe to those who rise early in the morning in pursuit of beer, who linger into the evening, inflamed by wine.

sitting among the graves, spending nights in secret places, eating the meat of pigs, and putting polluted broth in their bowls.

Then you will answer them, “Because your ancestors abandoned me   #– #this is the Lord’s declaration #– #and followed other gods, served them, and bowed in worship to them.  Indeed, they abandoned me and did not keep my instruction.

I will first repay them double for their iniquity  and sin because they have polluted my land. They have filled my inheritance with the carcasses of their abhorrent and detestable idols.’

‘Say to the rebellious people,  the house of Israel, “This is what the Lord God says: I have had enough  of all your detestable practices, house of Israel.

‘This is what the Lord God says: You have gone too far,  , princes of Israel! Put away violence and oppression and do what is just and right.  Put an end to your evictions of my people.’ This is the declaration of the Lord God.

adulteries,   greed,   evil actions, deceit,   self-indulgence,   envy,   slander,   pride,   and foolishness.

‘Therefore, having overlooked  the times of ignorance, God now commands all people everywhere to repent,

Let us walk with decency,  as in the daytime: not in carousing and drunkenness;  not in sexual impurity and promiscuity; not in quarrelling and jealousy.

You know that when you were pagans, you used to be enticed and led astray by mute  idols.

And some of you used to be like this.  But you were washed, you were sanctified,  you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

I fear that when I come my God will again  humiliate me in your presence, and I will grieve for many who sinned before and have not repented  of the moral impurity, sexual immorality,  and sensuality  they practised.

Now the works of the flesh are obvious:  sexual immorality,  moral impurity,  promiscuity,

envy,  , drunkenness, carousing,  and anything similar. I am warning you about these things #– #as I warned you before #– #that those who practise such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

And don’t get drunk  with wine,  which leads to reckless living, but be filled by the Spirit:

not with lustful passions,  like the Gentiles, who don’t know God.

For we too were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved by various passions  and pleasures,  living in malice and envy, hateful, detesting one another.

As obedient children,  do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance.

For some people, who were designated for this judgement long ago,  , have come in by stealth;  they are ungodly,  turning the grace of our God into sensuality and denying  Jesus Christ, our only Master and Lord.
