"They have heardthat I groan;Thereis nooneto comfortme; Allmy enemieshave heardof my calamity;They are gladthat You have done[it]. Oh, that You would bringthe daywhich You have proclaimed,That they may becomelikeme.
But at my stumblingthey rejoicedand gatheredthemselves together; The smiterswhom I did not knowgatheredtogether againstme, They slanderedme withoutceasing.
The Lordlaughsat him, For He seeshis dayis coming.
For I said,"May they not rejoiceover me, [Who], when my footslips,would magnifythemselves againstme."
"The LORDhas brokenthe staffof the wicked,The scepterof rulers
Which used to strikethe peoplesin furywith unceasingstrokes,Which subduedthe nationsin angerwith unrestrainedpersecution.
Thereforeallwho devouryou will be devoured;And allyour adversaries,everyoneof them, will gointo captivity;And those who plunderyou will be for plunder,And allwho preyupon you I will givefor prey.
"Now was not Israela laughingstockto you? Orwas he caughtamong thieves?For eachtimeyou speakabout him you shake[your head in scorn].
"Becauseyou are glad,becauseyou are jubilant,O you who pillageMy heritage,Becauseyou skipaboutlike a threshingheiferAnd neighlike stallions,
"Raiseyour battlecryagainsther on everyside!She has givenherselfup, her pillarshave fallen,Her wallshave been torndown.For thisis the vengeanceof the LORD:Takevengeanceon her; As she has done[to others, so] doto her.
"SummonmanyagainstBabylon,Allthose who bendthe bow:Encampagainsther on everyside,Let there be noescape. Repayher according to her work;According to allthat she has done,[so] doto her; For she has becomearrogantagainstthe LORD,Againstthe HolyOneof Israel.
"Behold,I am againstyou, O arrogantone," Declaresthe LordGODof hosts,"For your dayhas come,The timewhen I will punishyou.
"But I will repayBabylonand allthe inhabitantsof Chaldeafor alltheir evilthat they have donein Zionbefore your eyes,"declaresthe LORD.
IndeedBabylonis to fall[for] the slainof Israel,[As] alsofor Babylonthe slainof allthe earthhave fallen.
"For thesethingsI weep;My eyesrundownwith water;Becausefarfrom me is a comforter,One who restoresmy soul.My childrenare desolateBecausethe enemyhas prevailed."
She weepsbitterlyin the nightAnd her tearsare on her cheeks;She hasnoneto comforther Amongallher lovers.Allher friendshave dealttreacherouslywith her; They have becomeher enemies.
"Let alltheir wickednesscomebeforeYou; And dealwith them as You have dealtwith me For allmy transgressions;For my groansare manyand my heartis faint."
The roadsof Zionare in mourningBecausenoone comesto the appointedfeasts.Allher gatesare desolate;Her priestsare groaning,Her virginsare afflicted,And she herselfis bitter.
Jerusalemsinnedgreatly,Thereforeshe has becomean uncleanthing.Allwho honoredher despiseher Becausethey have seenher nakedness;Evenshe herselfgroansand turnsaway.
Allwho passalongthe wayClaptheir hands[in derision] at you; They hissand shaketheir headsAt the daughterof Jerusalem,"Is thisthe cityof whichthey said,The perfectionof beauty,A joyto allthe earth'?"
Allyour enemiesHave openedtheir mouthswide againstyou; They hissand gnash[their] teeth.They say,"We have swallowed[her] up! Surelythisis the dayfor whichwe waited;We have reached[it], we have seen[it]."
"Sonof man,becauseTyrehas saidconcerningJerusalem,'Aha,the gatewayof the peoplesis broken;it has openedto me. I shall be filled,[now that] she is laidwaste,'
Multitudes,multitudesin the valleyof decision!For the dayof the LORDis nearin the valleyof decision.
"Payher backevenas she has paid,and give back [to her] doubleaccordingto her deeds;in the cupwhichshe has mixed,mixtwice as muchfor her.
