The mountainsrose;the valleyssankdownTo the placewhichYou establishedfor them.
The cordsof deathencompassedme And the terrorsof Sheolcameupon me; I founddistressand sorrow.
Answerme quickly,O LORD,my spiritfails;Do not hideYour facefrom me, Or I will becomelikethose who godownto the pit.
For You will not abandonmy soulto Sheol;Norwill You allowYour HolyOneto undergodecay.
The cordsof Sheolsurroundedme; The snaresof deathconfrontedme.
O LORD,You have broughtup my soulfrom Sheol;You have keptme alive,that I would not godownto the pit.
"Whatprofitis there in my blood,if I godownto the pit?Will the dustpraiseYou? Will it declareYour faithfulness?
But You, O God,will bringthem downto the pitof destruction;Menof bloodshedand deceitwill not liveout halftheir days.But I will trustin You.
Who establishesthe mountainsby His strength,Being girdedwith might;
I have sunkin deepmire,and thereis nofoothold;I have comeinto deepwaters,and a floodoverflowsme.
I said,"In the middleof my lifeI am to enterthe gatesof Sheol;I am to be deprivedof the restof my years."
"Lo,for [my own] welfareI hadgreatbitterness;It is You who has keptmy soulfrom the pitof nothingness,For You have castallmy sinsbehindYour back.
Whohas measuredthe watersin the hollowof His hand,And markedoffthe heavensby the span,And calculatedthe dustof the earthby the measure,And weighedthe mountainsin a balanceAnd the hillsin a pair of scales?
then I will bringyou downwith those who godownto the pit,to the peopleof old,and I will make you dwellin the lowerpartsof the earth,like the ancientwasteplaces,with those who godownto the pit,sothat you will not be inhabited;but I will setgloryin the landof the living.
sothat allthe treesby the watersmay not be exaltedin their stature,norsettheir topamongthe clouds,northeir well-wateredmightyones stand[erect] in their height.For they have allbeen givenover to death,to the earthbeneath,amongthe sonsof men,with those who godownto the pit."
The mountainssawYou [and] quaked;The downpourof waterssweptby. The deeputteredforthits voice,It liftedhighits hands.
He stoodand surveyedthe earth;He lookedand startledthe nations.Yes, the perpetualmountainswere shattered,The ancienthillscollapsed.His waysare everlasting.
"I alsosayto you that you are Peter,and upon thisrockI will buildMy church;and the gatesof Hadeswill not overpowerit.
For a fireis kindledin My anger,And burnsto the lowestpartof Sheol,And consumesthe earthwith its yield,And setson firethe foundationsof the mountains.
