Behold,He will mountup and swooplike an eagleand spreadout His wingsagainstBozrah;and the heartsof the mightymenof Edomin that daywill be like the heartof a womanin labor.
The cordsof Sheolsurroundedme; The snaresof deathconfrontedme.
The wayof an eaglein the sky,The wayof a serpenton a rock,The wayof a shipin the middleof the sea,And the wayof a manwith a maid.
They will swoopdownon the slopesof the Philistineson the west;Togetherthey will plunderthe sonsof the east; They will possessEdomand Moab,And the sonsof Ammonwill be subjectto them.
They will be terrified,Painsand anguishwill takeholdof [them]; They will writhelike a woman in labor,They will lookat oneanotherin astonishment,Their facesaflame.
For thisreasonmy loinsare fullof anguish;Painshave seizedme like the painsof a woman in labor.I am sobewilderedI cannothear, soterrifiedI cannotsee.
As the pregnantwomanapproaches[the time] to givebirth,She writhes[and] criesout in her laborpains,Thuswere we beforeYou, O LORD.
"Whatwill you saywhenHe appointsoveryou-- And you yourselfhad taughtthem-- Former companionsto be headoveryou? Will not pangstakeholdof you Likea womanin childbirth?
"You who dwellin Lebanon,Nestedin the cedars,Howyou will groanwhen pangscomeupon you, Painlike a woman in childbirth!
Asknow,and seeIfa malecan givebirth.Whydo I seeeveryman[With] his handson his loins,as a woman in childbirth?And [why] have allfacesturnedpale?
"Behold,he goesup like clouds,And his chariotslike the whirlwind; His horsesare swifterthaneagles.Woeto us, for we are ruined!"
For I hearda cryas of a woman in labor,The anguishas of one givingbirthto her firstchild,The cryof the daughterof Ziongaspingfor breath,Stretchingout her hands,[saying], "Ah,woeis me, for I faintbefore murderers."
"Damascushas becomehelpless; She has turnedaway to flee,And panichas grippedher; Distressand pangshave takenholdof her Like a woman in childbirth.
"A swordagainstthe oraclepriests, and they will becomefools!A swordagainsther mightymen, and they will be shattered!
"The kingof Babylonhas heardthe reportabout them, And his handshanglimp;Distresshas grippedhim, Agonylike a woman in childbirth.
We have heardthe reportof it; Our handsare limp.Anguishhas seizedus, Painas of a woman in childbirth.
"The first[was] like a lionand had [the] wingsof an eagle.I keptlookinguntilits wingswere plucked, and it was liftedup from the groundand madeto standon two feetlike a man;a humanmindalso was givento it.
[Put] the trumpetto your lips!Like an eagle[the enemy comes] againstthe houseof the LORD,Becausethey have transgressedMy covenantAnd rebelledagainstMy law.
"Then your mightymenwill be dismayed,O Teman,So that everyonemay be cutofffrom the mountainof Esauby slaughter.
"The LORDwill bringa nationagainstyou from afar, from the endof the earth,as the eagleswoopsdown,a nationwhoselanguageyou shall not understand,
Whilethey are saying,"Peaceand safety!"thendestructionwill comeupon them suddenlylikelabor painsupon a woman with child, and they will not escape.
