For thussaysthe LORD,"The wholelandshall be a desolation,Yet I will not executea completedestruction.
"O JacobMy servant,do not fear,"declaresthe LORD,"For I am with you. For I will makea fullendof allthe nationsWhereI have drivenyou, Yet I will not makea fullendof you; But I will correctyou properlyAnd by nomeansleaveyou unpunished."
"Yet evenin thosedays,"declaresthe LORD,"I will not makeyou a completedestruction.
"Goup through her vinerowsand destroy,But do not executea completedestruction;Stripawayher branches,For they are not the LORD'S.
For I am with you,' declaresthe LORD,'to saveyou; For I will destroycompletelyallthe nationswhereI have scatteredyou, OnlyI will not destroyyou completely.But I will chastenyou justlyAnd will by nomeansleaveyou unpunished.'
Now it cameabout as I prophesied,that Pelatiahsonof Benaiahdied.Then I fellon my faceand criedout with a loudvoiceand said,"Alas,LordGOD!Will You bringthe remnantof Israelto a completeend?"
Yet in spiteof this,when they are in the landof their enemies,I will not rejectthem, norwill I so abhorthem as to destroythem, breakingMy covenantwith them; for I am the LORDtheir God.
"I will makethe landa desolationand a waste,and the prideof her powerwill cease;and the mountainsof Israelwill be desolatesothat noonewill passthrough.
"So throughout alltheir habitationsI will stretchout My handagainstthem and makethe landmoredesolateand wastethanthe wildernesstoward Diblah;thus they will knowthat I am the LORD."'"
To maketheir landa desolation,[An object of] perpetualhissing;Everyonewho passesby it will be astonishedAnd shakehis head.
"Then I will make to ceasefrom the citiesof Judahand from the streetsof Jerusalemthe voiceof joyand the voiceof gladness,the voiceof the bridegroomand the voiceof the bride;for the landwill becomea ruin.
"A lionhas goneup from his thicket,And a destroyerof nationshas setout; He has goneout from his placeTo makeyour landa waste.Your citieswill be ruinsWithoutinhabitant.
Behold,the LORDlaysthe earthwaste,devastatesit, distortsits surfaceand scattersits inhabitants.
to fulfillthe wordof the LORDby the mouthof Jeremiah,untilthe landhad enjoyedits sabbaths.Allthe daysof its desolationit keptsabbathuntil seventyyearswere complete.
"Nevertheless, in Your greatcompassionYou did not makean endof them or forsakethem, For You are a graciousand compassionateGod.
Disasteron disasteris proclaimed,For the wholelandis devastated;Suddenlymy tentsare devastated,My curtainsin an instant.
"I will makeJerusalema heapof ruins, A hauntof jackals;And I will makethe citiesof Judaha desolation,withoutinhabitant."
Thiswholelandwill be a desolationand a horror,and thesenationswill servethe kingof Babylonseventyyears.
Therefore My wrathand My angerwere pouredout and burnedin the citiesof Judahand in the streetsof Jerusalem,so they havebecomea ruinand a desolationas it is thisday.
"Yet My eyesparedthem ratherthandestroyingthem, and I did not causetheir annihilationin the wilderness.
I will laywasteyour citiesas well and will makeyour sanctuariesdesolate,and I will not smellyour soothingaromas.
Yet gleaningswill be leftin it like the shakingof an olivetree,Two[or] threeoliveson the topmostbough,Four[or] fiveon the branchesof a fruitfultree,Declaresthe LORD,the Godof Israel.
The Lordhas rejectedHis altar,He has abandonedHis sanctuary;He has deliveredinto the handof the enemyThe wallsof her palaces.They have madea noisein the houseof the LORDAs in the dayof an appointedfeast.
Neithertheir silvernortheir goldWill be ableto deliverthem On the dayof the LORD'Swrath;And allthe earthwill be devouredIn the fireof His jealousy,For He will makea completeend,Indeeda terrifyingone, Of allthe inhabitantsof the earth.
