In that timeit will be saidto thispeopleand to Jerusalem,"A scorchingwindfrom the bareheightsin the wildernessin the directionof the daughterof My people--not to winnowand not to cleanse,
Thoughhe flourishesamongthe reeds,An eastwindwill come,The windof the LORDcomingup from the wilderness; And his fountainwill becomedryAnd his springwill be driedup; It will plunder[his] treasuryof everypreciousarticle.
"Behold, though it is planted, will it thrive? Will it not completelywitheras soon as the eastwindstrikesit-- witheron the bedswhereit grew?"'"
"His winnowing forkis in His handto thoroughly clearHis threshing floor, and to gatherthe wheatinto His barn;but He will burnup the chaffwith unquenchablefire."
"His winnowing forkis in His hand, and He will thoroughly clearHis threshing floor;and He will gatherHis wheatinto the barn, but He will burnup the chaffwith unquenchablefire."
Thereforethey will be like the morningcloudAnd like dewwhich soondisappears,Like chaffwhich is blownawayfrom the threshingfloorAnd like smokefrom a chimney.
But it was pluckedup in fury;It was castdownto the ground; And the eastwinddriedup its fruit. Its strongbranchwas tornoffSo that it withered; The fireconsumedit.
For the iniquityof the daughterof my peopleIs greaterthanthe sinof Sodom,Which was overthrownas in a moment,And nohandswere turnedtoward her.
Evenjackalsofferthe breast,They nursetheir young;[But] the daughterof my peoplehas become cruelLike ostrichesin the wilderness.
My eyesrundownwith streamsof waterBecauseof the destructionof the daughterof my people.
My eyesfailbecause of tears,My spiritis greatlytroubled; My heartis pouredout on the earthBecauseof the destructionof the daughterof my people,When littleonesand infantsfaintIn the streetsof the city.
"Behold, the stormof the LORDhas goneforthin wrath,Even a whirlingtempest; It will swirldownon the headof the wicked.
"You will saythiswordto them, 'Let my eyesflowdownwith tearsnightand day,And let them not cease; For the virgindaughterof my peoplehas been crushedwith a mightyblow,With a sorelyinfectedwound.
Thereforethussaysthe LORDof hosts,"Behold,I will refinethem and assaythem; For what[else] can I do,becauseof the daughterof My people?
Ohthat my headwere watersAnd my eyesa fountainof tears,That I might weepdayand nightFor the slainof the daughterof my people!
Behold, listen! The cryof the daughterof my peoplefrom a distantland:"Is the LORDnot in Zion?Is her Kingnot within her?" "Whyhave they provokedMe with their gravenimages, with foreignidols?"
For allof us have becomelike one who is unclean,And allour righteousdeedsare like a filthygarment; And allof us witherlike a leaf,And our iniquities, like the wind, takeus away.
"You will winnowthem, and the windwill carrythem away, And the stormwill scatterthem; But you will rejoicein the LORD,You will gloryin the HolyOneof Israel.
You contendedwith them by banishingthem, by drivingthem away. With His fiercewindHe has expelled[them] on the dayof the eastwind.
ThereforeI say,"Turnyour eyesawayfrom me, Let me weepbitterly,Do not tryto comfortme concerningthe destructionof the daughterof my people."
The handsof compassionatewomenBoiledtheir own children; They becamefoodfor them Because of the destructionof the daughterof my people.
Upon the wickedHe will rainsnares;Fireand brimstoneand burningwindwill be the portionof their cup.
a windtoostrongfor this--will comeat My command; nowI will alsopronouncejudgmentsagainst them.
"Therefore I will scatterthem like driftingstrawTo the desertwind.
"For behold,I am raisingup the Chaldeans,That fierceand impetuouspeopleWho marchthroughoutthe earthTo seizedwellingplaceswhich are not theirs.
"Thenthey will sweepthrough[like] the windand passon. But they will be heldguilty,They whosestrengthis their god."
The windwrapsthem in its wings,And they will be ashamedbecauseof their sacrifices.
