Becauseyou have said,"We have madea covenantwith death,And with Sheolwe have madea pact.The overwhelmingscourgewill not reachus whenit passesby, For we have madefalsehoodour refugeand we have concealedourselves with deception."

Thussaysthe LORD:"Behold,watersare going to risefrom the northAnd becomean overflowingtorrent,And overflowthe landand allits fullness,The cityand those who livein it; And the menwill cryout, And everyinhabitantof the landwill wail.
Yetour eyesfailed,[Looking] for helpwas useless;In our watchingwe have watchedFor a nationthat could not save.
[so] tellthose who plaster[it] overwith whitewash,that it will fall.A floodingrainwill come,and you, O hailstones,will fall;and a violentwindwill breakout.
But he rebelledagainst him by sendinghis envoysto Egyptthat they might givehim horsesand manytroops.Will he succeed?Will he who doessuchthingsescape?Can he indeed breakthe covenantand escape?
"At the endtimethe kingof the Southwill collidewith him, and the kingof the Northwill stormagainsthim with chariots,with horsemenand with manyships;and he will entercountries,overflow[them] and passthrough.
But with an overflowingfloodHe will makea completeendof its site,And will pursueHis enemiesinto darkness.
"But did not My wordsand My statutes,whichI commandedMy servantsthe prophets,overtakeyour fathers?Then they repentedand said,As the LORDof hostspurposedto doto us in accordance with our waysand our deeds,soHe has dealtwith us.'"'"

And he saidto me, "The waterswhichyou sawwherethe harlotsits,are peoplesand multitudesand nationsand tongues.
