The nationsrumbleon like the rumblingof manywaters,But He will rebukethem and they will fleefaraway,And be chasedlike chaffin the mountainsbeforethe wind,Or like whirlingdustbeforea gale.
You have rebukedthe nations,You have destroyedthe wicked;You have blottedout their nameforeverand ever.
The wickedare not so,But they are like chaffwhichthe winddrivesaway.
"Are they as strawbeforethe wind,And like chaffwhich the stormcarriesaway?
But the multitudeof your enemieswill becomelike finedust,And the multitudeof the ruthlessoneslike the chaffwhich blowsaway;And it will happeninstantly,suddenly.
Thereforethey will be like the morningcloudAnd like dewwhich soondisappears,Like chaffwhich is blownawayfrom the threshingfloorAnd like smokefrom a chimney.
"Thenthe iron,the clay,the bronze,the silverand the goldwere crushedallat the sametimeand becamelike chafffrom the summerthreshingfloors;and the windcarriedthem away so that not a traceof them was found.But the stonethat struckthe statuebecamea greatmountainand filledthe wholeearth.
In that daythe LORDwill punishLeviathanthe fleeingserpent,With His fierceand greatand mightysword,EvenLeviathanthe twistedserpent;And He will killthe dragonwho[lives] in the sea.
to breakAssyriain My land,and I will tramplehim on My mountains.Then his yokewill be removedfrom them and his burdenremovedfrom their shoulder.
Let them be like chaffbeforethe wind,With the angelof the LORDdriving[them] on.
And I said,'Thusfaryou shall come,but nofarther;And hereshall your proudwavesstop'?
Who stillsthe roaringof the seas,The roaringof their waves,And the tumultof the peoples.
"Now therefore,behold,the Lordis about to bringon them the strongand abundantwatersof the Euphrates,[Even] the kingof Assyriaand allhis glory;And it will riseup overallits channelsand gooverallits banks.
For they have fledfrom the swords,From the drawnsword,and from the bentbowAnd from the pressof battle.
[And] rollyou tightlylike a ball,[To be] [cast] into a vastcountry;Thereyou will dieAnd thereyour splendidchariotswill be, You shameof your master'shouse.'
He has castthe lotfor them, And His handhas dividedit to them by line.They shall possessit forever;From generationto generationthey will dwellin it.
Behold,the nationsare like a dropfrom a bucket,And are regardedas a speckof duston the scales;Behold,He liftsup the islandslike finedust.
Scarcelyhave they been planted,Scarcelyhave they been sown,Scarcelyhas their stocktakenrootin the earth,But He merelyblowson them, and they wither,And the stormcarriesthem away like stubble.
"Behold,allthose who are angeredat you will be shamedand dishonored;Thosewhocontendwith you will be as nothingand will perish.
Beforethe decreetakeseffect--The daypasseslike the chaff--Beforethe burningangerof the LORDcomesupon you, Beforethe dayof the LORD'Sangercomesupon you.
They who dwellin the ends[of the earth] standin aweof Your signs;You make the dawnand the sunsetshoutfor joy.
His breathis like an overflowingtorrent,Which reachesto the neck,To shakethe nationsbackand forthin a sieve,And to [put] in the jawsof the peoplesthe bridlewhich leadsto ruin.
