"Sonof man,sayto the leaderof Tyre,'Thussaysthe LordGOD,"Becauseyour heartis liftedup And you have said,I am a god,I sitin the seatof godsIn the heartof the seas;Yet you are a manand not God,Although you makeyour heartlike the heartof God--
"For Godknowsthat in the dayyou eatfrom it your eyeswill be opened,and you will be like God,knowinggoodand evil."
But when he becamestrong,his heartwas so proudthat he actedcorruptly,and he was unfaithfulto the LORDhis God,for he enteredthe templeof the LORDto burnincenseon the altarof incense.
Putthem in fear,O LORD;Let the nationsknowthat they are but men.Selah.
Pride[goes] beforedestruction,And a haughtyspiritbeforestumbling.
Beforedestructionthe heartof manis haughty,But humility[goes] beforehonor.
For the LORDof hostswill have a day[of reckoning] Againsteveryonewhois proudand loftyAnd againsteveryonewho is liftedup, That he may be abased.
Whohas plannedthisagainstTyre,the bestowerof crowns,Whosemerchantswere princes,whosetraderswere the honoredof the earth?
Now the Egyptiansare menand not God,And their horsesare fleshand not spirit;So the LORDwill stretchout His hand,And he who helpswill stumbleAnd he who is helpedwill fall,And allof them will cometo an endtogether.
"Now,then, hearthis,you sensualone,Who dwellssecurely,Who saysin your heart,I am, and thereis noonebesidesme. I will not sitas a widow,Norknowlossof children.'
"Behold,thiswas the guiltof your sisterSodom:she and her daughtershadarrogance,abundantfoodand carelessease,but she did not helpthe poorand needy.
"They will takeup a lamentationoveryou and sayto you, 'Howyou have perished,O inhabitedone, From the seas,O renownedcity,Whichwas mightyon the sea,She and her inhabitants,Whoimposedher terrorOn allher inhabitants!
The wordof the LORDcameagain to me, saying,
"Your heartwas liftedup because of your beauty;You corruptedyour wisdomby reasonof your splendor.I castyou to the ground;I putyou beforekings,That they may seeyou.
Will you stillsay,"I am a god,"In the presenceof your slayer,Though you are a manand not God,In the handsof those who woundyou?
"Speakand say,'Thussaysthe LordGOD,"Behold,I am againstyou, Pharaohkingof Egypt,The greatmonsterthat liesin the midstof his rivers,That has said,'My Nileis mine, and I myselfhave made[it].'
"The landof Egyptwill becomea desolationand waste.Then they will knowthat I am the LORD.Becauseyou said,'The Nileis mine, and I have made[it],'
Thereforethussaysthe LordGOD,"Becauseit is highin statureand has setits topamongthe clouds,and its heartis haughtyin its loftiness,
"When the multitudeis carriedaway, his heartwill be liftedup, and he will cause tensof thousandsto fall;yet he will not prevail.
"Then the kingwill doas he pleases,and he will exaltand magnifyhimself aboveeverygodand will speakmonstrousthingsagainstthe Godof gods;and he will prosperuntilthe indignationis finished,for that which is decreedwill be done.
"He will shownoregardfor the godsof his fathersor for the desireof women,norwill he showregardfor any[other] god;for he will magnifyhimself above[them] all.
"Behold,as for the proudone, His soulis not rightwithin him; But the righteouswill liveby his faith.
Thisis the exultantcityWhich dwellssecurely,Who saysin her heart,"I am, and thereis noonebesidesme." Howshe has becomea desolation,A restingplacefor beasts!Everyonewho passesby her will hiss[And] wavehis hand[in contempt].
And Hamathalso,which borderson it; Tyreand Sidon,thoughthey are verywise.
and he who invitedyou bothwill comeand sayto you, 'Give[your] placeto this man,'and thenin disgraceyou proceedto occupythe lastplace.
then your heartwill becomeproudand you will forgetthe LORDyour Godwho broughtyou out from the landof Egypt,out of the houseof slavery.
who opposesand exaltshimself aboveeveryso-calledgodorobject of worship,sothat he takes his seatin the templeof God,displayinghimselfas beingGod.
[and] not a new convert,sothat he will not become conceitedand fallinto the condemnationincurred by the devil.
You younger men,likewise,be subjectto [your] elders;and allof you, clotheyourselves with humilitytoward one another,for GODIS OPPOSEDTO THE PROUD,BUT GIVESGRACETO THE HUMBLE.
And he carried me awayin the Spiritinto a wilderness;and I sawa womansittingon a scarletbeast,fullof blasphemousnames,havingsevenheadsand tenhorns.
"To the degreethat she glorifiedherselfand lived sensuously,to the same degreegiveher tormentand mourning;for she saysin her heart,I SIT[as] A QUEENAND I AMNOT A WIDOW,and will neverseemourning.'
