They have madeMe jealouswith [what] is not God;They have provokedMe to angerwith their idols.So I will make them jealouswith [those who] are not a people;I will provokethem to angerwith a foolishnation,
Judahdidevilin the sightof the LORD,and they provokedHim to jealousymorethanallthat their fathershad done,with the sinswhichthey committed.
you also have donemoreevilthanallwhowere beforeyou, and have goneand madefor yourself othergodsand moltenimagesto provokeMe to anger,and have castMe behindyour back--
for allthe sinsof Baashaand the sinsof Elahhis son,whichthey sinnedand whichthey made Israelsin,provokingthe LORDGodof Israelto angerwith their idols.
For he walkedin allthe wayof Jeroboamthe sonof Nebatand in his sinswhichhe made Israelsin,provokingthe LORDGodof Israelwith their idols.
and therethey burnedincenseon allthe highplacesas the nations[did] whichthe LORDhad carriedawayto exilebeforethem; and they didevilthingsprovokingthe LORD.
They rejectedHis statutesand His covenantwhichHe madewith their fathersand His warningswith whichHe warnedthem. And they followedvanityand becamevain,and [went] afterthe nationswhichsurroundedthem, concerning whichthe LORDhad commandedthem not to dolike them.
He made his sonpassthrough the fire,practicedwitchcraftand useddivination,and dealtwith mediumsand spiritists.He didmuchevilin the sightof the LORDprovoking[Him to anger].
"Becausethey have forsakenMe and have burnedincenseto othergodsthat they might provokeMe to angerwith allthe workof their hands,therefore My wrathburnsagainst thisplace,and it shall not be quenched."'
I hatethose who regardvainidols,But I trustin the LORD.
For they provokedHim with their highplacesAnd aroused His jealousywith their gravenimages.
A peoplewho continuallyprovokeMe to My face,Offeringsacrificesin gardensand burningincenseon bricks;
But they are altogetherstupidand foolish[In their] disciplineof delusion--their idol is wood!
Are thereanyamong the idolsof the nationswho giverain?Orcan the heavensgrantshowers?Is it not You, O LORDour God?Therefore we hopein You, For You are the one who has doneallthesethings.
For My peoplehave forgottenMe, They burnincenseto worthlessgods And they have stumbledfrom their ways,From the ancientpaths,To walkin bypaths,Not on a highway,
"Has a nationchangedgodsWhen they were not gods?But My peoplehave changedtheir gloryFor that which does not profit.
"Whyshould I pardonyou? Your sonshave forsakenMe And swornby those who are not gods.When I had fedthem to the full,They committedadulteryAnd troopedto the harlot'shouse.
"The childrengatherwood,and the fatherskindlethe fire,and the womenkneaddoughto makecakesfor the queenof heaven;and [they] pourout drinkofferingsto othergodsin orderto spiteMe.
Behold,listen!The cryof the daughterof my peoplefrom a distantland:"Is the LORDnot in Zion?Is her Kingnot within her?" "Whyhave they provokedMe with their gravenimages,with foreignidols?"
He stretchedout the formof a handand caughtme by a lockof my head;and the Spiritliftedme up betweenearthand heavenand broughtme in the visionsof Godto Jerusalem,to the entranceof the northgateof the inner[court], wherethe seatof the idolof jealousy,whichprovokesto jealousy,was [located].
Yet the numberof the sonsof IsraelWill be like the sandof the sea,Whichcannotbe measuredor numbered;And in the placeWhereit is saidto them, "You are not My people,"It will be saidto them, "[You are] the sonsof the livingGod."
"Those who regardvainidolsForsaketheir faithfulness,
"And as I beganto speak,the HolySpiritfellupon them justas [He did] upon us at the beginning.
and saying,"Men,whyare you doingthese things?We are alsomenof the same natureas you, and preach the gospelto you that you should turnfrom thesevain thingsto a livingGod,WHOMADETHE HEAVENAND THE EARTHAND THE SEAAND ALLTHAT IS IN THEM.
But I say,surelyIsraeldid not know,did they? FirstMosessays,"I WILL MAKE YOU JEALOUSBY THAT WHICH IS NOT A NATION,BY A NATIONWITHOUT UNDERSTANDINGWILL I ANGERYOU."
As He saysalsoin Hosea,"I WILL CALLTHOSEWHO WERE NOT MY PEOPLE,'MY PEOPLE,'AND HER WHO WAS NOT BELOVED,'BELOVED.'"
Ordo we provokethe Lordto jealousy?We are not strongerthan He, are we?
"They madeHim jealouswith strange[gods]; With abominationsthey provokedHim to anger.
"They sacrificedto demonswho were not God,To godswhom they have not known,New[gods] who camelately,Whom your fathersdid not dread.
"You must not turnaside,for [then you would go] afterfutilethingswhichcan not profitor deliver,becausethey are futile.
