Isaiah 60 - Easy To Read Version

¹ “Jerusalem, my light, get up!\par Your Light (God) is coming!\par The Glory of the Lord {\cf2\super [451]} will shine on you.\par

² Darkness now covers the earth\par and the people are in darkness.\par But the Lord will shine on you,\par and his Glory will appear on you.\par

³ The nations will come to your Light (God).\par Kings will come to your bright Light.\par

⁴ Look around you!\par See, people are gathering around\par and coming to you.\par They are your sons coming from far away.\par And your daughters are coming with them.\par

⁵ \{This will happen in the future.\}\par And at that time, you will see your people,\par and your faces will shine \{with happiness\}.\par \{First,\} you will be afraid,\par but then, you will be excited!\par All the riches from across the seas\par will be set before you.\par The riches of the nations\par will come to you.\par

⁶ Herds of camels from Midian and Ephah\par will cross your land.\par Long lines of camels will come from Sheba.\par They will bring gold and incense.\par People will sing praises to the Lord.\par

⁷ People will collect all the sheep from Kedar\par and give them to you.\par They will bring you rams from Nebaioth.\par You will offer those animals on my altar.\par And I will accept them.\par I will make my wonderful temple {\cf2\super [452]} \par even more beautiful.\par

⁸ Look at the people!\par They are hurrying to you\par like clouds quickly crossing the sky.\par They are like doves flying to their nests.\par

⁹ The faraway lands are waiting for me.\par The great cargo ships are ready to sail.\par Those ships are ready to bring\par your children from faraway lands.\par They will bring silver and gold with them\par to honor the Lord your God,\par the Holy One of Israel.\par The Lord does wonderful things for you.\par

¹⁰ Children from other lands\par will build your walls again.\par Their kings will serve you.\par

¹¹ Your gates will always be open.\par They will not be closed night or day.\par Nations and kings will bring\par their wealth to you.\par

¹² Any nation or kingdom\par that does not serve you\par will be destroyed.\par

¹³ All the great things of Lebanon {\cf2\super [453]} \par will be given to you.\par People will bring pine trees, fir trees,\par and cypress trees to you.\par These trees will be used for lumber\par to make my holy place {\cf2\super [454]} more beautiful.\par This place is like a stool\par in front of my throne,\par And I will give it much honor.\par

¹⁴ In the past, people hurt you.\par Those people will bow down before you.\par In the past, people hated you.\par Those people will bow down at your feet.\par Those people will call you\par ‘The Lord’s City.’\par ‘The Zion {\cf2\super [455]} of the Holy One of Israel.’”\par

¹⁵ “You will never again be left alone.\par You will never again be hated.\par You will never again be empty.\par I will make you great forever.\par You will be happy forever and ever.\par

¹⁶ Nations \{will give you everything you need\}.\par It will be like a child\par drinking milk from its mother.\par But you will ‘drink’ riches from kings.\par Then you will know that it is I, the Lord,\par who saves you.\par You will know that the Great God of Jacob protects you.\par

¹⁷ “You now have copper,\par I will bring you gold.\par You now have iron,\par I will bring you silver.\par I will change your wood into copper.\par I will change your rocks into iron.\par I will change your punishment into peace.\par People now hurt you,\par but people will do good things for you.\par

¹⁸ “There will never again be news of violence\par in your country.\par People will never again attack your country\par and steal from you.\par You will name your walls,\par ‘Salvation.’\par You will name your gates,\par ‘Praise.’\par

¹⁹ “The sun will no longer be your light\par during the day.\par The light from the moon will no longer\par be your light \{at night\}.\par Because the Lord will be your light forever.\par Your God will be your glory.\par

²⁰ Your ‘sun’ will never go down again.\par Your ‘moon’ will never be dark again.\par Because the Lord will be your light forever.\par And your time of sadness will end.\par

²¹ “All of your people will be good.\par Those people will get the earth forever.\par I made those people.\par They are the wonderful plant\par that I made with my own hands.\par

²² The smallest family will become\par a large family group.\par The smallest family will become\par a powerful nation.\par When the time is right,\par I, the Lord, will come quickly.\par I will make these things happen.”\par
