But they would not listen. Instead they became obstinate like  their ancestors who did not believe the Lord their God.


Don’t become obstinate  , now as your ancestors did. Give your allegiance  to the Lord, and come to his sanctuary that he has consecrated for ever. Serve the Lord your God so that he may turn his burning anger away from you,


But they kept ridiculing God’s messengers,  despising his words,  and scoffing at his prophets, until the Lord’s wrath was so stirred up against his people that there was no remedy.


You warned them to turn back to your law, but they acted arrogantly and would not obey your commands. They sinned against your ordinances, which a person will live by if he does them. They stubbornly resisted, stiffened their necks, and would not obey.


Anyone who listens to me is happy, watching at my doors every day, waiting by the posts of my doorway.


He will be a sanctuary; but for the two houses of Israel, he will be a stone  to stumble over and a rock to trip over, and a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.


‘This is what the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel, says: “I am about to bring on this city #– #and on all its cities #– #every disaster that I spoke against it, for they have become obstinate, not obeying my words.” ’


However, my people wouldn’t listen to me or pay attention but became obstinate;  they did more evil than their ancestors.


Leave them alone! They are blind guides.   And if the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit.’


An evil and adulterous generation demands a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of   Jonah.’   Then he left them and went away.


At that time Jesus said to the crowds, ‘Have you come out with swords and clubs, as if I were a criminal,   to capture me? Every day I used to sit, teaching in the temple, and you didn’t arrest me.


He has blinded   their eyes and hardened their hearts, so that they would not see with their eyes or understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would heal them.   ,


and when he found him he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught large numbers. The disciples  were first called Christians at Antioch.


But the people of the city were divided, some siding with the Jews and others with the apostles.


Some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, including a large number of God-fearing Greeks, as well as a number of the leading women.


About that time there was a major disturbance about the Way.


Although Paul wanted to go in before the people, the disciples did not let him.


Therefore be on the alert, remembering that night and day for three years I never stopped warning each one of you with tears.


I persecuted this Way  to the death, arresting and putting both men and women in jail,


other than this one statement I shouted while standing among them, “Today I am on trial before you concerning the resurrection of the dead.” ’


But we want to hear what your views are, since we know that people everywhere are speaking against this sect.’


‘You stiff-necked  people with uncircumcised hearts and ears!  You are always resisting the Holy Spirit. As your ancestors did, you do also.


and requested letters  from him to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any men or women who belonged to the Way,  he might bring them as prisoners to Jerusalem.


What then? Israel did not find what it was looking for,  but the elect did find it. The rest were hardened,


So then, he has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy and he hardens whom he wants to harden.


because a wide door  for effective ministry has opened for me   #– #yet many oppose me.


and constant disagreement among people whose minds are depraved and deprived of the truth, who imagine that godliness is a way to material gain.  ,


You know that all those in the province of Asia  have deserted me,  including Phygelus and Hermogenes.


holding to the form of godliness but denying its power.  Avoid these people.


Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage with great patience and teaching.


But encourage each other daily,  while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened  by sin’s deception.


But these people, like irrational animals #– #creatures of instinct born to be caught and destroyed #– #slander what they do not understand, and in their destruction they too will be destroyed.


Many will follow their depraved ways, and the way of truth will be maligned because of them.


But these people blaspheme anything they do not understand. And what they do understand by instinct #– #like irrational animals #– #by these things they are destroyed.
