"For this,puton sackcloth,Lamentand wail;For the fierceangerof the LORDHas not turnedbackfrom us."
He sentupon them His burninganger,Furyand indignationand trouble,A bandof destroyingangels.
Nothing[remains] but to crouchamongthe captivesOr fallamongthe slain.In [spite of] allthis,His angerdoes not turnawayAnd His handis stillstretchedout.
Wail,for the dayof the LORDis near!It will comeas destructionfrom the Almighty.
Therefore in that daythe LordGODof hostscalled[you] to weeping,to wailing,To shavingthe headand to wearingsackcloth.
Tremble,you [women] whoare at ease;Be troubled,you complacent[daughters]; Strip,undressand put[sackcloth] on [your] waist,
On thisaccountthe angerof the LORDhas burnedagainst His people,And He has stretchedout His handagainstthem and struckthem down.And the mountainsquaked,and their corpseslaylike refusein the middleof the streets.For allthisHis angeris not spent,But His handis stillstretchedout.
The Arameanson the eastand the Philistineson the west;And they devourIsraelwith gapingjaws.In [spite of] allthis,His angerdoes not turnawayAnd His handis stillstretchedout.
Thereforethe Lorddoes not takepleasurein their youngmen,Nordoes He havepityon their orphansor their widows;For everyoneof them is godlessand an evildoer,And everymouthis speakingfoolishness.In [spite of] allthis,His angerdoes not turnawayAnd His handis stillstretchedout.
Manasseh[devours] Ephraim,and EphraimManasseh,[And] togetherthey are againstJudah.In [spite of] allthis,His angerdoes not turnawayAnd His handis stillstretchedout.
"Wail,you shepherds,and cry;And wallow[in ashes], you mastersof the flock;For the daysof your slaughterand your dispersionshave come,And you will falllike a choicevessel.
The fierceangerof the LORDwill not turnbackUntilHe has performedand untilHe has accomplishedThe intentof His heart;In the latterdaysyou will understandthis.
"Moabhas beenputto shame,for it has beenshattered.Wailand cryout; Declareby the ArnonThat Moabhas been destroyed.
O daughterof my people,puton sackclothAnd rollin ashes;Mournas for an onlyson,A lamentationmostbitter.For suddenlythe destroyerWill comeupon us.
"Is it nothingto allyou who passthis way?Lookand seeifthereis anypainlike my painWhichwas severelydealtout to me, Whichthe LORDinflictedon the dayof His fierceanger.
"Cryout and wail,sonof man;for it is against My people,it is against allthe officialsof Israel.They are deliveredover to the swordwith My people,thereforestrike[your] thigh.
"Sonof man,prophesyand say,'Thussaysthe LordGOD,"Wail,'Alasfor the day!'
Girdyourselves[with sackcloth] And lament,O priests;Wail,O ministersof the altar!Come,spendthe nightin sackclothO ministersof my God,For the grain offeringand the drinkofferingAre withheldfrom the houseof your God.
"Then I will turnyour festivalsinto mourningAnd allyour songsinto lamentation;And I will bringsackclothon everyone'sloinsAnd baldnesson everyhead.And I will makeit like [a time of] mourningfor an onlyson,And the endof it will be like a bitterday.
Makeyourself baldand cutoffyour hair,Becauseof the childrenof your delight;Extendyour baldnesslike the eagle,For they will gofrom you into exile.
The LORDsaidto Moses,"Takeallthe leadersof the peopleand executethem in broaddaylightbefore the LORD,so that the fierceangerof the LORDmay turnawayfrom Israel."
