and he will takeZedekiahto Babylon,and he will be thereuntilI visithim," declaresthe LORD."Ifyou fightagainstthe Chaldeans,you will not succeed"'?"
"Now behold,Godis with us at [our] headand His priestswith the signaltrumpetsto soundthe alarmagainstyou. O sonsof Israel,do not fightagainstthe LORDGodof your fathers,for you will not succeed."
Then the Spiritof Godcameon Zechariahthe sonof Jehoiadathe priest;and he stoodabovethe peopleand saidto them, "ThusGodhas said,Whydo you transgressthe commandmentsof the LORDand do not prosper?Becauseyou have forsakenthe LORD,He has also forsakenyou.'"
Thereis nowisdomand nounderstandingAnd nocounselagainstthe LORD.
"From this[place] alsoyou will goout With your handson your head;For the LORDhas rejectedthose in whomyou trust,And you will not prosperwith them."
They will be carriedto Babylonand they will be thereuntilthe dayI visitthem,' declaresthe LORD.Then I will bringthem backand restorethem to thisplace.'"
Behold,the siegerampshave reachedthe cityto takeit; and the cityis giveninto the handof the Chaldeanswho fightagainstit, becauseof the sword,the famineand the pestilence;and whatYou have spokenhas cometo pass;and behold,You see[it].
And Jeremiahsaid,"The wordof the LORDcameto me, saying,
While [they] are comingto fightwith the Chaldeansand to fillthem with the corpsesof menwhomI have slainin My angerand in My wrath,and I have hiddenMy facefrom thiscitybecauseof alltheir wickedness:
For even ifyou had defeatedthe entirearmyof Chaldeanswho were fightingagainstyou, and there were [only] woundedmenleftamong them, eachmanin his tent,they would riseup and burnthiscitywith fire.'"
WhenZedekiahthe kingof Judahand allthe menof warsawthem, they fledand wentout of the cityat nightby wayof the king'sgardenthrough the gatebetweenthe two walls;and he wentout towardthe Arabah.
But the armyof the Chaldeanspursuedthem and overtookZedekiahin the plainsof Jericho;and they seizedhim and broughthim up to Nebuchadnezzarkingof Babylonat Riblahin the landof Hamath,and he passedsentenceon him.
He then blindedZedekiah'seyesand boundhim in fettersof bronzeto bringhim to Babylon.
"The yokeof my transgressionsis bound;By His handthey are knittogether.They have comeupon my neck;He has made my strengthfail.The Lordhas givenme into the handsOf [those against whom] I am not ableto stand.
"The princewhois amongthem will load[his baggage] on [his] shoulderin the darkand goout. They will diga hole through the wallto bring[it] out. He will coverhis facesothat he can not seethe landwith [his] eyes.
"I will also spreadMy netoverhim, and he will be caughtin My snare.And I will bringhim to Babylonin the landof the Chaldeans;yet he will not seeit, though he will diethere.
But he rebelledagainst him by sendinghis envoysto Egyptthat they might givehim horsesand manytroops.Will he succeed?Will he who doessuchthingsescape?Can he indeed breakthe covenantand escape?
But Mosessaid,"Whythenare you transgressingthe commandmentof the LORD,when it will not succeed?
