But the peoplethirstedtherefor water;and they grumbledagainstMosesand said,"Why,now,have you broughtus up from Egypt,to killus and our childrenand our livestockwith thirst?"
The landmourns[and] pinesaway,Lebanonis shamed[and] withers;Sharonis like a desertplain,And Bashanand Carmellose[their foliage].
"Your nakednesswill be uncovered,Your shamealsowill be exposed;I will takevengeanceand will not sparea man."
Your holycitieshave becomea wilderness,Zionhas becomea wilderness,Jerusalema desolation.
"Manyshepherdshave ruinedMy vineyard,They have trampleddownMy field;They have madeMy pleasantfieldA desolatewilderness.
"Ifyou sayin your heart,Whyhave thesethingshappenedto me?' Because of the magnitudeof your iniquityYour skirtshave been removedAnd your heelshave been exposed.
"So I Myselfhave alsostrippedyour skirtsoffoveryour face,That your shamemay be seen.
"Their nobleshave senttheir servantsfor water;They have cometo the cisternsand foundnowater.They have returnedwith their vesselsempty;They have beenputto shameand humiliated,And they covertheir heads.
"For he will be like a bushin the desertAnd will not seewhenprosperitycomes,But will livein stonywastesin the wilderness,A landof saltwithoutinhabitant.
"O generation,heedthe wordof the LORD.Have I beena wildernessto Israel,Ora landof thickdarkness?Whydo My peoplesay,We [are free to] roam;We will nolongercometo You'?
"They did not say,'Whereis the LORDWho broughtus up out of the landof Egypt,Who ledus through the wilderness,Through a landof desertsand of pits,Through a landof droughtand of deepdarkness,Through a landthat noonecrossedAnd wherenomandwelt?'
For thussaysthe LORDconcerningthe houseof the kingof Judah:"You are [like] Gileadto Me, [Like] the summitof Lebanon;Yet mostassuredlyI will makeyou like a wilderness,[Like] citieswhich are not inhabited.
I looked,and behold,the fruitfullandwas a wilderness,And allits citieswere pulleddownBeforethe LORD,beforeHis fierceanger.
"Her citieshave becomean objectof horror,A parchedlandand a desert,A landin whichnomanlivesAnd throughwhichnosonof manpasses.
For neitherIsraelnorJudahhas been forsakenBy his God,the LORDof hosts,Althoughtheir landis fullof guiltBeforethe HolyOneof Israel.
"Besidesallyour abominationsand harlotriesyou did not rememberthe daysof your youth,when you were nakedand bareand squirmingin your blood.
And nowit is plantedin the wilderness,In a dryand thirstyland.
Thoughhe flourishesamongthe reeds,An eastwindwill come,The windof the LORDcomingup from the wilderness;And his fountainwill becomedryAnd his springwill be driedup; It will plunder[his] treasuryof everypreciousarticle.
"And thenI will uncoverher lewdnessIn the sightof her lovers,And noonewill rescueher out of My hand.
"And the tenhornswhichyou saw,and the beast,thesewill hatethe harlotand will makeher desolateand naked,and will eather fleshand will burnher up with fire.
Then he becameverythirsty,and he calledto the LORDand said,"You have giventhisgreatdeliveranceby the handof Your servant,and nowshall I dieof thirstand fallinto the handsof the uncircumcised?"
