Now Moseswas pasturingthe flockof Jethrohis father-in-law,the priestof Midian;and he ledthe flockto the westsideof the wildernessand cameto Horeb,the mountainof God.
So he departedfrom thereand foundElishathe sonof Shaphat,while he was plowingwith twelvepairs[of oxen] beforehim, and he with the twelfth.And Elijahpassedoverto him and threwhis mantleon him.
So he aroseand ateand drank,and wentin the strengthof that foodfortydaysand fortynightsto Horeb,the mountainof God.
They madea calfin HorebAnd worshipeda moltenimage.
"Behold,I will standbeforeyou thereon the rockat Horeb;and you shall strikethe rock,and waterwill comeout of it, that the peoplemay drink."And Mosesdidsoin the sightof the eldersof Israel.
Then Jethro,Moses'father-in-law,tooka burntofferingand sacrificesfor God,and Aaroncamewith allthe eldersof Israelto eata mealwith Moses'father-in-lawbeforeGod.
and let them be readyfor the thirdday,for on the thirddaythe LORDwill comedownon MountSinaiin the sightof allthe people.
When they setout from Rephidim,they cameto the wildernessof Sinaiand campedin the wilderness;and thereIsraelcampedin frontof the mountain.
Moseswentup to God,and the LORDcalledto him from the mountain,saying,"Thusyou shall sayto the houseof Jacoband tellthe sonsof Israel:
Now the priestof Midianhad sevendaughters;and they cameto drawwaterand filledthe troughsto watertheir father'sflock.
When they cameto Reueltheir father,he said,"Whyhave you come[back] so soontoday?"
Moseswas willingto dwellwith the man,and he gavehis daughterZipporahto Moses.
So Mosesarosewith Joshuahis servant,and Moseswentup to the mountainof God.
And He said,"CertainlyI will be with you, and thisshall be the signto you that it is I who have sentyou: when you have broughtthe peopleout of Egypt,you shall worshipGodat thismountain."
Then He said,"Do not comenearhere;removeyour sandalsfrom your feet,for the placeon whichyou are standingis holyground."
So the sonsof Israelstrippedthemselves of their ornaments,from MountHoreb[onward].
Then Mosesdepartedand returnedto Jethrohis father-in-lawand saidto him, "Please,let me go,that I may returnto my brethrenwhoare in Egypt,and seeif they are stillalive."And Jethrosaidto Moses,"Goin peace."
Now the LORDsaidto Aaron,"Goto meetMosesin the wilderness."So he wentand methim at the mountainof Godand kissedhim.
The wordsof Amos,whowas among the sheepherdersfrom Tekoa,whichhe envisionedin visionsconcerningIsraelin the daysof Uzziahkingof Judah,and in the daysof Jeroboamsonof Joash,kingof Israel,two yearsbeforethe earthquake.
"Rememberthe lawof MosesMy servant,[even the] statutesand ordinanceswhichI commandedhim in Horebfor allIsrael.
Then Mosessaidto Hobabthe sonof Reuelthe Midianite,Moses'father-in-law,"We are settingout to the placeof whichthe LORDsaid,I will giveit to you'; comewith us and we will doyou good,for the LORDhas promisedgoodconcerningIsrael."
Thus they setout from the mountof the LORDthreedays'journey,with the arkof the covenantof the LORDjourneyingin frontof them for the threedays,to seekout a restingplacefor them.
In the sameregionthere were [some] shepherdsstaying out in the fieldsand keepingwatchovertheir flockby night.
"After fortyyearshad passed,AN ANGELAPPEAREDTO HIM IN THE WILDERNESSOF MOUNTSinai,IN THE FLAMEOF A BURNINGTHORN BUSH.
It is elevendays'[journey] from Horebby the wayof MountSeirto Kadesh-barnea.
"The LORDour Godspoketo us at Horeb,saying,You have stayedlongenoughat thismountain.
"[Remember] the dayyou stoodbeforethe LORDyour Godat Horeb,when the LORDsaidto me, 'Assemblethe peopleto Me, that I may let them hearMy wordssothey may learnto fearMe allthe daysthey liveon the earth,and that they may teachtheir children.'
Now Heberthe Kenitehad separatedhimself from the Kenites,from the sonsof Hobabthe father-in-lawof Moses,and had pitchedhis tentas faraway as the oakin Zaanannim,whichis nearKedesh.
And Samuelsaidto Jesse,"Are these allthe children?"And he said,"There remainsyetthe youngest,and behold,he is tendingthe sheep."Then Samuelsaidto Jesse,"Sendand bringhim; for we will not sitdown untilhe comeshere."
