Then Josephtookthem from his knees,and bowedwith his faceto the ground.
Thushis sonsdidfor him as he had chargedthem;
So Bathshebawentto KingSolomonto speakto him for Adonijah.And the kingaroseto meether, bowedbefore her, and saton his throne;then he had a thronesetfor the king'smother,and she saton his right.
Elishasaw[it] and criedout, "My father,my father,the chariotsof Israeland its horsemen!"And he sawElijah nomore.Then he tookholdof his own clothesand torethem in twopieces.
"He who strikeshis fatheror his mothershall surelybe putto death.
"He who curseshis fatheror his mothershall surelybe putto death.
A foolrejectshis father'sdiscipline,But he who regardsreproofis sensible.
Grandchildrenare the crownof oldmen,And the gloryof sonsis their fathers.
He who curseshis fatheror his mother,His lampwill goout in timeof darkness.
He who robshis fatheror his motherAnd says,"It is not a transgression,"Is the companionof a manwho destroys.
Longlifeis in her righthand;In her lefthandare richesand honor.
There is a kindof [man] who curseshis fatherAnd does not blesshis mother.
The eyethat mocksa fatherAnd scornsa mother,The ravensof the valleywill pickit out, And the youngeagleswill eatit.
Then Jeremiahsaidto the houseof the Rechabites,"Thussaysthe LORDof hosts,the Godof Israel,'Becauseyou have obeyedthe commandof Jonadabyour father,keptallhis commandsand doneaccording to allthat he commandedyou;
You shall not builda house,and you shall not sowseedand you shall not planta vineyardor ownone; but in tentsyou shall dwellallyour days,that you may livemanydaysin the landwhereyou sojourn.'
"They have treatedfatherand motherlightlywithin you. The alienthey have oppressedin your midst;the fatherlessand the widowthey have wrongedin you.
Everyoneof you shall reverencehis motherand his father,and you shall keepMy sabbaths;I am the LORDyour God.
You shall riseup beforethe grayheadedand honorthe aged,and you shall revereyour God;I am the LORD.
"'A sonhonors[his] father,and a servanthis master.Then ifI am a father,whereis My honor?And ifI am a master,whereis My respect?'saysthe LORDof hoststo you, O priestswho despiseMy name.But you say,'Howhave we despisedYour name?'
HONORYOUR FATHERAND MOTHER;and YOU SHALL LOVEYOUR NEIGHBORAS YOURSELF."
"You knowthe commandments,DO NOT MURDER,DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY,DO NOT STEAL,DO NOT BEAR false WITNESS,Do not defraud,HONORYOUR FATHERAND MOTHER.'"
"For Mosessaid,HONORYOUR FATHERAND YOUR MOTHER;and, 'HE WHO SPEAKS EVILOF FATHERORMOTHER,IS TO BE PUTTO DEATH';
"You knowthe commandments,DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY,DO NOT MURDER,DO NOT STEAL,DO NOT BEAR false WITNESS,HONORYOUR FATHERAND MOTHER.'"
and be subjectto one anotherin the fearof Christ.
"You shall therefore keepeverycommandmentwhichI am commandingyou today,sothat you may be strongand goin and possessthe landinto whichyou are about to crossto possessit;
so that you may prolong[your] dayson the landwhichthe LORDsworeto your fathersto giveto them and to their descendants,a landflowingwith milkand honey.
"Ifanymanhasa stubbornand rebellioussonwho will not obeyhis fatheror his mother,and when they chastisehim, he will not even listento them,
"You shall havea fulland justweight;you shall havea fulland justmeasure,that your daysmay be prolongedin the landwhichthe LORDyour Godgivesyou.
Cursedis he who dishonorshis fatheror mother.'And allthe peopleshall say,'Amen.'
"For it is not an idlewordfor you; indeedit is your life.And by thiswordyou will prolongyour daysin the land,whichyou are about to crossthe Jordanto possess."
I callheavenand earthto witnessagainst you today,that you will surelyperishquicklyfrom the landwhereyou are goingoverthe Jordanto possessit. You shall not livelongon it, but will be utterlydestroyed.
"So you shall keepHis statutesand His commandmentswhichI am givingyou today,that it may gowellwith you and with your childrenafteryou, and that you may livelongon the landwhichthe LORDyour Godis givingyou for alltime."
Honoryour fatherand your mother,as the LORDyour Godhas commandedyou, that your daysmay be prolongedand that it may gowellwith you on the landwhichthe LORDyour Godgivesyou.
"You shall walkin allthe waywhichthe LORDyour Godhas commandedyou, that you may liveand that it may be wellwith you, and that you may prolong[your] daysin the landwhichyou will possess.
sothat you and your sonand your grandsonmight fearthe LORDyour God,to keepallHis statutesand His commandmentswhichI commandyou, allthe daysof your life,and that your daysmay be prolonged.
Children,be obedientto your parentsin all things,for thisis well-pleasingto the Lord.
So she wentdownto the threshingfloorand didaccording to allthat her mother-in-lawhad commandedher.
And Davidwentfrom thereto Mizpahof Moab;and he saidto the kingof Moab,"Pleaselet my fatherand my mothercome[and stay] with you untilI knowwhatGodwill dofor me."
