² H376And there was a manH4584in MaonH4639, whose possessionsH3760were in CarmelH376; and the manH3966was veryH1419greatH7969, and he had threeH505thousandH6629sheepH505, and a thousandH5795goatsH1494: and he was shearing[H8800] H6629his sheepH3760in Carmel.

³ H8034Now the nameH376of the manH5037was NabalH8034; and the nameH802of his wifeH26AbigailH802: and she was a womanH2896of goodH7922understandingH3303, and of a beautifulH8389countenanceH376: but the manH7186was churlishH7451and evilH4611in his doingsH3614; and he was of the house of Caleb.

⁴ H1732And DavidH8085heard[H8799] H4057in the wildernessH5037that NabalH1494did shear[H8802] H6629his sheep.

⁵ H1732And DavidH7971sent out[H8799] H6235tenH5288young menH1732, and DavidH559said[H8799] H5288unto the young menH5927, Get you up[H8798] H3760to CarmelH935, and go[H8804] H5037to NabalH7592, and greet[H8804] H7965 H8034him in my name:

⁶ H559And thus shall ye say[H8804] H2416to him that livethH7965in prosperity, PeaceH7965be both to thee, and peaceH1004be to thine houseH7965, and peace be unto all that thou hast.

⁷ H8085And now I have heard[H8804] H1494that thou hast shearers[H8802] H7462: now thy shepherds[H8802] H3637which were with us, we hurt[H8689] H3972them not, neither was there oughtH6485missing[H8738] H3117unto them, all the whileH3760they were in Carmel.

⁸ H7592Ask[H8798] H5288thy young menH5046, and they will shew[H8686] H5288thee. Wherefore let the young menH4672find[H8799] H2580favourH5869in thine eyesH935: for we come[H8804] H2896in a goodH3117dayH5414: give[H8798] H4672, I pray thee, whatsoever cometh[H8799] H3027to thine handH5650unto thy servantsH1121, and to thy sonH1732David.

⁹ H1732And when David'sH5288young menH935came[H8799] H1696, they spake[H8762] H5037to NabalH1697according to all those wordsH8034in the nameH1732of DavidH5117, and ceased[H8799] .

¹⁰ H5037And NabalH6030answered[H8799] H1732David'sH5650servantsH559, and said[H8799] H1732, Who is DavidH1121? and who is the sonH3448of JesseH7231? there be many[H8804] H5650servantsH3117now a daysH6555that break away[H8693] H376every manH6440fromH113his master.

¹¹ H3947Shall I then take[H8804] H3899my breadH4325, and my waterH2878, and my fleshH2873that I have killed[H8804] H1494for my shearers[H8802] H5414, and give[H8804] H582it unto menH3045, whom I know[H8804]  not whence they be ?

¹² H1732So David'sH5288young menH2015turned[H8799] H1870their wayH7725, and went again[H8799] H935, and came[H8799] H5046and told[H8686] H1697him all those sayings.

¹³ H1732And DavidH559said[H8799] H582unto his menH2296, Gird ye on[H8798] H376every manH2719his swordH2296. ¹⁵ H582But the menH3966were veryH2896goodH3637unto us, and we were not hurt[H8717] H6485, neither missed[H8804] H3972we any thingH3117, as long asH1980we were conversant[H8694] H7704with them, when we were in the fields:

¹⁶ H2346They were a wallH3915unto us both by nightH3119and dayH3117, all the whileH7462we were with them keeping[H8802] H6629the sheep.

¹⁷ H3045Now therefore know[H8798] H7200and consider[H8798] H6213what thou wilt do[H8799] H7451; for evilH3615is determined[H8804] H113against our masterH1004, and against all his householdH1121: for he is such a sonH1100of BelialH1696, that a man cannot speak[H8763]  to him.

¹⁹ H559And she said[H8799] H5288unto her servantsH5674, Go on[H8798] H6440beforeH935me; behold, I come[H8802] H310afterH5046you. But she told[H8689] H376not her husbandH5037Nabal.

²⁰ H7392And it was so, as she rode[H8802] H2543on the assH3381, that she came down[H8802] H5643by the covertH2022of the hillH1732, and, behold, DavidH582and his menH3381came down[H8802] H7125against[H8800] H6298her; and she met[H8799]  them.

²⁵ H7760Let[H8799] H113not my lordH3820, I pray thee, regardH376this manH1100of BelialH5037, even NabalH8034: for as his nameH5037is, so is he; NabalH8034is his nameH5039, and follyH519is with him: but I thine handmaidH7200saw[H8804] H5288not the young menH113of my lordH7971, whom thou didst send[H8804] .

²⁶ H113Now therefore, my lordH3068, as the LORDH2416livethH5315, and as thy soulH2416livethH3068, seeing the LORDH4513hath withholden[H8804] H935thee from coming[H8800] H1818to shed bloodH3467, and from avenging[H8687] H3027thyself with thine own handH341, now let thine enemies[H8802] H1245, and they that seek[H8764] H7451evilH113to my lordH5037, be as Nabal.

²⁷ H1293And now this blessingH8198which thine handmaidH935hath brought[H8689] H113unto my lordH5414, let it even be given[H8738] H5288unto the young menH1980that follow[H8693] H7272 H113my lord.

²⁸ H5375I pray thee, forgive[H8798] H6588the trespassH519of thine handmaidH3068: for the LORDH6213will certainly[H8800] H6213make[H8799] H113my lordH539a sure[H8737] H1004houseH113; because my lordH3898fighteth[H8737] H4421the battlesH3068of the LORDH7451, and evilH4672hath not been found[H8735] H3117in thee all thy days.

²⁹ H120Yet a manH6965is risen[H8799] H7291to pursue[H8800] H1245thee, and to seek[H8763] H5315thy soulH5315: but the soulH113of my lordH6887shall be bound[H8803] H6872in the bundleH2416of lifeH3068with the LORDH430thy GodH5315; and the soulsH341of thine enemies[H8802] H7049, them shall he sling out[H8762] H8432, as out of the middleH3709 H7050of a sling.

³⁰ H3068And it shall come to pass, when the LORDH6213shall have done[H8799] H113to my lordH2896according to all the goodH1696that he hath spoken[H8765] H6680concerning thee, and shall have appointed[H8765] H5057thee rulerH3478over Israel;

³¹ H6330That this shall be no griefH4383unto thee, nor offenceH3820of heartH113unto my lordH8210, either that thou hast shed[H8800] H1818bloodH2600causelessH113, or that my lordH3467hath avenged[H8687] H3068himself: but when the LORDH3190shall have dealt well[H8689] H113with my lordH2142, then remember[H8804] H519thine handmaid.

³² H1732And DavidH559said[H8799] H26to AbigailH1288, Blessed[H8803] H3068be the LORDH430GodH3478of IsraelH7971, which sent[H8804] H3117thee this dayH7125to meet[H8800]  me:

³³ H1288And blessed[H8803] H2940be thy adviceH1288, and blessed[H8803] H3607be thou, which hast kept[H8804] H3117me this dayH935from coming[H8800] H1818to shed bloodH3467, and from avenging[H8687] H3027myself with mine own hand.

³⁴ H199For in very deedH3068, as the LORDH430GodH3478of IsraelH2416livethH4513, which hath kept me back[H8804] H7489from hurting[H8687] H3884thee, exceptH4116thou hadst hasted[H8765] H935and come[H8799] H7125to meet[H8800] H3498me, surely there had not been left[H8738] H5037unto NabalH1242by the morningH216lightH8366any that pisseth[H8688] H7023against the wall.

³⁵ H1732So DavidH3947received[H8799] H3027of her handH935that which she had brought[H8689] H559him, and said[H8804] H5927unto her, Go up[H8798] H7965in peaceH1004to thine houseH7200; see[H8798] H8085, I have hearkened[H8804] H6963to thy voiceH5375, and have accepted[H8799] H6440thy person.

³⁶ H26And AbigailH935came[H8799] H5037to NabalH4960; and, behold, he held a feastH1004in his houseH4960, like the feastH4428of a kingH5037; and Nabal'sH3820heartH2896was merryH3966within him, for he was veryH7910drunkenH5046: wherefore she told[H8689] H1697him nothingH6996, lessH1419or moreH1242, until the morningH216light.

³⁷ H1242But it came to pass in the morningH3196, when the wineH3318was gone out[H8800] H5037of NabalH802, and his wifeH5046had told[H8686] H1697him these thingsH3820, that his heartH4191died[H8799] H7130withinH68him, and he became as a stone.

³⁸ H6235And it came to pass about tenH3117daysH3068after, that the LORDH5062smote[H8799] H5037NabalH4191, that he died[H8799] .

³⁹ H1732And when DavidH8085heard[H8799] H5037that NabalH4191was dead[H8804] H559, he said[H8799] H1288, Blessed[H8803] H3068be the LORDH7378, that hath pleaded[H8804] H7379the causeH2781of my reproachH3027from the handH5037of NabalH2820, and hath kept[H8804] H5650his servantH7451from evilH3068: for the LORDH7725hath returned[H8689] H7451the wickednessH5037of NabalH7218upon his own headH1732. And DavidH7971sent[H8799] H1696and communed[H8762] H26with AbigailH3947, to take[H8800] H802her to him to wife.

⁴⁰ H5650And when the servantsH1732of DavidH935were come[H8799] H26to AbigailH3760to CarmelH1696, they spake[H8762] H559unto her, saying[H8800] H1732, DavidH7971sent[H8804] H3947us unto thee, to take[H8800] H802thee to him to wife.

⁴¹ H6965And she arose[H8799] H7812, and bowed[H8691] H639herself on her faceH776to the earthH559, and said[H8799] H519, Behold, let thine handmaidH8198be a servantH7364to wash[H8800] H7272the feetH5650of the servantsH113of my lord.

⁴² H26And AbigailH4116hasted[H8762] H6965, and arose[H8799] H7392, and rode[H8799] H2543upon an assH2568, with fiveH5291damselsH1980of hers that went[H8802] H7272afterH3212her; and she went[H8799] H310afterH4397the messengersH1732of DavidH802, and became his wife.

⁴³ H1732DavidH3947also took[H8804] H293AhinoamH3157of JezreelH8147; and they were also bothH802of them his wives.

⁴⁴ H7586But SaulH5414had given[H8804] H4324MichalH1323his daughterH1732, David'sH802wifeH6406, to PhaltiH1121the sonH3919of LaishH1554, which was of Gallim.
