And King Jeroboam started a new holiday. This holiday was like the {Passover} Festival in Judah. But this holiday was on the 15th day of the eighth month {not the 15th day of the first month}. During that time the king offered sacrifices on the altar in the city of Bethel. And he made the sacrifices to the calves that he had made. King Jeroboam also chose priests in Bethel to serve at the high places that he made.
In some country you might see poor people that are forced to work very hard. You might see that this is not fair to the poor people. It is against the rights of the poor people. But don’t be surprised! The ruler that forces those people to work has another ruler that forces him. And there is still another ruler that forces both of these rulers.
Why? Because you obey the laws of Omri. {\cf2\super [78]} \par You do all the \{bad\} things\par that Ahab’s family does.\par You follow their teachings.\par So I will let you be destroyed.\par People will whistle in amazement\par when they see your destroyed city.\par Then you will bear the shame\par that the other nations bring to you. {\cf2\super [79]} \par
But the leading priests and the Pharisees {\cf2\super [188]} had given a special order about Jesus. They said that if any person knew where Jesus was, the person must tell them. Then the leading priests and the Pharisees could arrest Jesus.
Then the guards took Jesus from Caiaphas’ house to the \{Roman governor’s\} palace. It was early in the morning. The Jews there would not go inside the palace. They did not want to make themselves unclean, {\cf2\super [237]} because they wanted to eat the Passover {\cf2\super [238]} meal.
His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. The Jewish leaders had already decided that they would punish any person that said Jesus was the Christ. {\cf2\super [158]} They would put those people out of the synagogue. {\cf2\super [159]}
