When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him, saying, ‘I am God Almighty.  Live  in my presence and be blameless.


For I have chosen  him so that he will command his children and his house after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just. This is how the Lord will fulfil to Abraham what he promised him.’


Now, Lord God, fulfil the promise for ever that you have made to your servant and his house. Do as you have promised,


And the king went on to say this: “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel! Today he has provided one to sit on my throne,  and I am a witness.” ’


I will give one tribe  to his son,  so that my servant David will always have a lamp  before me  in Jerusalem, the city I chose for myself to put my name there.


If you walk in my ways and keep my statutes and commands just as your father David did, I will give you a long life.’


Solomon loved the Lord   by walking in the statutes of his father David,  but he also sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.


‘As for this temple you are building #– #if you walk in my statutes, observe my ordinances, and keep all my commands by walking in them,  I will fulfil my promise to you, which I made to your father David.


He said: Lord God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below, who keeps the gracious covenant with your servants who walk before you with all their heart.


Therefore, Lord God of Israel, keep what you promised to your servant, my father David: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your sons take care to walk before me as you have walked before me.  ’


I will establish your royal throne over Israel for ever, as I promised your father David: You will never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.


‘Please, Lord, remember  how I have walked before you faithfully and wholeheartedly and have done what pleases you.’  , And Hezekiah wept bitterly.


Before him there was no king like him who turned to the Lord with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength  according to all the law of Moses, and no one like him arose after him.


Next, the king stood by the pillar  , and made a covenant  in the Lord’s presence to follow the Lord and to keep his commands, his decrees, and his statutes with all his heart and with all his soul  in order to carry out the words of this covenant that were written in this book; all the people agreed to  the covenant.


‘As for you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father, and serve him wholeheartedly and with a willing mind,  for the Lord searches every heart and understands the intention of every thought.  If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will reject you for ever.


Now the Lord was with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the former ways of his ancestor David.  He did not seek the Baals


Therefore, Lord God of Israel, keep what you promised to your servant, my father David: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your sons take care to walk in my Law as you have walked before me.’


I will establish your royal throne, as I promised your father David: You will never fail to have a man ruling in Israel.


‘For this is what the Lord says: David will never fail to have a man sitting on the throne of the house of Israel.


‘If you follow my statutes and faithfully observe my commands,


I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem for battle.  The city will be captured, the houses looted, and the women raped. Half the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be removed from the city.


He said to him, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.   ,


Both were righteous in God’s sight,  living blamelessly  according to all the commands and requirements of the Lord.


‘And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you except to fear  the Lord your God by walking in all his ways, to love him, and to worship the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul?


‘If you carefully obey my commands I am giving you today, to love the Lord your God and worship him with all your heart and all your soul,


Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.


‘If you listen to and are careful to keep these ordinances, the Lord your God will keep his covenant loyalty with you, as he swore to your ancestors.


Now to him  who is able to protect you from stumbling  and to make you stand in the presence of his glory, without blemish  and with great joy,
