Then Davidchantedwith thislamentoverSauland Jonathanhis son,
His heartis upheld,he will not fear,Untilhe looks[with satisfaction] on his adversaries.
For You meethim with the blessingsof goodthings;You seta crownof finegoldon his head.
Come,beholdthe worksof the LORD,Whohas wroughtdesolationsin the earth.
O LORD,leadme in Your righteousnessbecauseof my foes;MakeYour waystraightbeforeme.
He will recompensethe evilto my foes;Destroythem in Your faithfulness.
For He has deliveredme from alltrouble,And my eyehas looked[with satisfaction] upon my enemies.
My foeshave trampledupon me alldaylong, For they are manywho fightproudlyagainst me.
They attack,they lurk,They watchmy steps,As they have waited[to take] my life.
O my strength,I will singpraisesto You; For Godis my stronghold,the Godwho shows me lovingkindness.
Do not rememberthe iniquitiesof [our] forefathersagainst us; Let Your compassioncomequicklyto meetus, For we are broughtverylow.
You will onlylookon with your eyesAnd seethe recompenseof the wicked.
And my eyehas looked[exultantly] upon my foes,My earshearof the evildoerswho riseup againstme.
"It will also cometo passthat beforethey call,I will answer;and while they are stillspeaking,I will hear.
But as for me, I have not hurriedaway from [being] a shepherdafterYou, Norhave I longedfor the woefulday;You Yourselfknowthat the utteranceof my lipsWas in Your presence.
Blessed[be] the Godand Fatherof our LordJesusChrist,the Fatherof merciesand Godof allcomfort,
For thiswe sayto you by the wordof the Lord,that we who are aliveand remainuntilthe comingof the Lord,will not precedethosewho have fallen asleep.
After you have sufferedfor a little while,the Godof allgrace,who calledyou to His eternalgloryin Christ,will Himselfperfect,confirm,strengthen[and] establishyou.
Davidalso said,"As the LORDlives,surelythe LORDwill strikehim, orhis daywill comethat he dies,orhe will godowninto battleand perish.
