Strikea scofferand the naivemay becomeshrewd,But reproveone who hasunderstandingand he will gainknowledge.
Foolishnessis boundup in the heartof a child;The rodof disciplinewill removeit farfrom him.
Faithfulare the woundsof a friend,But deceitfulare the kissesof an enemy.
Thereforethrough thisJacob'siniquitywill be forgiven;And thiswill be the fullpriceof the pardoningof his sin:When he makesallthe altarstoneslike pulverizedchalkstones;[When] Asherimand incensealtarswill not stand.
But He was piercedthroughfor our transgressions,He was crushedfor our iniquities;The chasteningfor our well-being[fell] upon Him, And by His scourgingwe are healed.
For they disciplinedus for a shorttimeas seemed bestto them, but He [disciplines us] for [our] good,sothat we may shareHis holiness.
and He Himselfboreour sinsin His bodyon the cross,sothat we might dieto sinand liveto righteousness;for by His woundsyou were healed.
