I will makethe landdesolateso that your enemieswho settlein it will be appalledoverit.
"And thishousewill becomea heapof ruins;everyonewho passesby will be astonishedand hissand say,Whyhas the LORDdonethusto thislandand to thishouse?'
Behold,the LORDlaysthe earthwaste,devastatesit, distortsits surfaceand scattersits inhabitants.
"I will layit waste;It will not be prunedor hoed,But briarsand thornswill comeup. I will also chargethe cloudsto rainnorainon it."
In my earsthe LORDof hosts[has sworn], "Surely,manyhousesshall becomedesolate,[Even] greatand fineones,withoutoccupants.
Then I said,"Lord,howlong?"And He answered,"Untilcitiesare devastated[and] withoutinhabitant,Housesare withoutpeopleAnd the landis utterlydesolate,
Your holycitieshave becomea wilderness,Zionhas becomea wilderness,Jerusalema desolation.
"It has been madea desolation,Desolate,it mournsbeforeMe; The wholelandhas been madedesolate,Becausenomanlaysit to heart.
To maketheir landa desolation,[An object of] perpetualhissing;Everyonewho passesby it will be astonishedAnd shakehis head.
"I will also makethiscitya desolationand an [object of] hissing;everyonewho passesby it will be astonishedand hissbecauseof allits disasters.
Thiswholelandwill be a desolationand a horror,and thesenationswill servethe kingof Babylonseventyyears.
Jerusalemand the citiesof Judahand its kings[and] its princes,to makethem a ruin,a horror,a hissingand a curse,as it is thisday;
"He has leftHis hidingplacelike the lion;For their landhas becomea horrorBecauseof the fiercenessof the oppressing[sword] And becauseof His fierceanger."
"Thussaysthe LORD,'Yetagainthere will be heardin thisplace,of whichyou say,"It is a waste,withoutmanand withoutbeast,"[that is], in the citiesof Judahand in the streetsof Jerusalemthat are desolate,withoutmanand withoutinhabitantand withoutbeast,
"Thussaysthe LORDof hosts,the Godof Israel,'You yourselveshave seenallthe calamitythat I have broughton Jerusalemand allthe citiesof Judah;and behold,thisdaythey are in ruinsand noonelivesin them,
"So the LORDwas nolongerableto endure[it], becauseof the evilof your deeds,becauseof the abominationswhichyou have committed;thus your landhas becomea ruin,an objectof horrorand a curse,withoutan inhabitant,as [it is] thisday.
"I will makeJerusalema heapof ruins, A hauntof jackals;And I will makethe citiesof Judaha desolation,withoutinhabitant."
The kingsof the earthdid not believe,Nor[did] anyof the inhabitantsof the world,That the adversaryand the enemyCould enterthe gatesof Jerusalem.
Becauseof MountZionwhichliesdesolate,Foxesprowlin it.
So it will be a reproach,a reviling,a warningand an objectof horrorto the nationswhosurroundyou when I executejudgmentsagainst you in anger,wrathand ragingrebukes.I, the LORD,have spoken.
"O my God,inclineYour earand hear!OpenYour eyesand seeour desolationsand the citywhichis calledby Your name;for we are not presentingour supplicationsbeforeYou on accountof any meritsof our own, but on accountof Your greatcompassion.
in the firstyearof his reign,I, Daniel,observedin the booksthe numberof the yearswhichwas [revealed as] the wordof the LORDto Jeremiahthe prophetfor the completionof the desolationsof Jerusalem,[namely], seventyyears.
Thoughthe figtreeshould not blossomAnd therebe nofruiton the vines,[Though] the yieldof the oliveshould failAnd the fieldsproducenofood,Though the flockshould be cutofffrom the foldAnd therebe nocattlein the stalls,
"But whenyou seeJerusalemsurroundedby armies,thenrecognizethat her desolationis near.
"You shall becomea horror,a proverb,and a tauntamong allthe peoplewherethe LORDdrivesyou.
