Alas!for that dayis great,Thereis nonelikeit; And it is the timeof Jacob'sdistress,But he will be savedfrom it.
Then Jacobwas greatlyafraidand distressed;and he dividedthe peoplewhowere with him, and the flocksand the herdsand the camels,into twocompanies;
RedeemIsrael,O God,Out of allhis troubles.
Manyare the afflictionsof the righteous,But the LORDdelivershim out of them all.
"So the inhabitantsof thiscoastlandwill sayin that day,'Behold, suchis our hope, wherewe fledfor helpto be deliveredfrom the kingof Assyria;and we, howshall we escape?'"
"O Hopeof Israel,Its Saviorin timeof distress,Whyare You like a strangerin the landOr like a travelerwho has pitchedhis [tent] for the night?
Who sayto a tree,'You are my father,'And to a stone,'You gaveme birth.'For they have turned[their] backto Me, And not [their] face; But in the timeof their troublethey will say,'Ariseand saveus.'
"But whereare your godsWhichyou madefor yourself? Let them arise, ifthey can saveyou In the timeof your trouble; For [according to] the numberof your citiesAre your gods,O Judah.
Fearnot, O JacobMy servant,'declaresthe LORD,'And do not be dismayed,O Israel; For behold,I will saveyou from afarAnd your offspringfrom the landof their captivity. And Jacobwill returnand will be quietand at ease,And noonewill makehim afraid.
"Is it nothingto allyou who passthis way?Lookand seeifthereis anypainlike my painWhichwas severelydealtout to me, Whichthe LORDinflictedon the dayof His fierceanger.
Howshall I admonishyou? To whatshall I compareyou, O daughterof Jerusalem? To whatshall I likenyou as I comfortyou, O virgindaughterof Zion? For your ruinis as vastas the sea;Whocan healyou?
For the iniquityof the daughterof my peopleIs greaterthanthe sinof Sodom,Which was overthrownas in a moment,And nohandswere turnedtoward her.
"Now at that timeMichael, the greatprincewho stands[guard] overthe sonsof your people, will arise. And there will be a timeof distresssuchas neveroccurredsincethere was a nationuntilthat time;and at that timeyour people, everyonewho is foundwrittenin the book, will be rescued.
"Thus He has confirmedHis wordswhichHe had spokenagainstus and againstour rulerswhoruledus, to bringon us greatcalamity;for underthe wholeheaventhere has not been done[anything] like whatwas doneto Jerusalem.
And the sonsof Judahand the sonsof Israelwill be gatheredtogether,And they will appointfor themselves oneleader,And they will goup from the land,For greatwill be the dayof Jezreel.
Alasfor the day!For the dayof the LORDis near,And it will comeas destructionfrom the Almighty.
Hearthis,O elders,And listen,allinhabitantsof the land.Has [anything like] thishappenedin your daysOrin your fathers'days?
The LORDuttersHis voicebeforeHis army;SurelyHis campis verygreat,For strongis he who carriesout His word. The dayof the LORDis indeedgreatand veryawesome,And who can endureit?
"The sunwill be turnedinto darknessAnd the mooninto bloodBeforethe greatand awesomedayof the LORDcomes.
"Now,whydo you cryout loudly? Is therenokingamong you, Orhas your counselorperished,That agonyhas grippedyou like a woman in childbirth?
I heardand my inwardpartstrembled,At the soundmy lipsquivered.Decayentersmy bones,And in my placeI tremble.BecauseI must waitquietlyfor the dayof distress,For the peopleto arise[who] will invadeus.
For it will be a uniquedaywhichis knownto the LORD,neitherdaynornight, but it will comeabout that at eveningtimethere will be light.
"For behold, the dayis coming, burninglike a furnace;and allthe arrogantand everyevildoerwill be chaff;and the daythat is comingwill setthem ablaze,"saysthe LORDof hosts,"sothat it will leavethem neitherrootnorbranch."
"For thosedayswill be a [time of] tribulationsuchas has not occurredsincethe beginningof the creationwhichGodcreateduntilnow, and neverwill.
THE SUNWILL BE TURNEDINTO DARKNESSAND THE MOONINTO BLOOD,BEFORETHE GREATAND GLORIOUSDAYOF THE LORDSHALL COME.
and soallIsraelwill be saved;justas it is written,"THE DELIVERERWILL COMEFROM ZION,HE WILL REMOVEUNGODLINESSFROM JACOB."
for the greatdayof their wrathhas come, and whois ableto stand?"
