and lo,sevenears,withered,thin,[and] scorchedby the eastwind,sproutedup afterthem;
Pul,kingof Assyria,cameagainstthe land,and MenahemgavePula thousandtalentsof silverso that his handmight be with him to strengthenthe kingdomunder his rule.
In the daysof Pekahkingof Israel,Tiglath-pileserkingof Assyriacameand capturedIjonand Abel-beth-maacahand Janoahand Kedeshand Hazorand Gileadand Galilee,allthe landof Naphtali;and he carriedthem captiveto Assyria.
"According to whatI have seen,those who plowiniquityAnd those who sowtroubleharvestit.
He who sowsiniquitywill reapvanity,And the rodof his furywill perish.
Thisalsois a grievousevil--exactlyas a man is born,thuswill he die.So whatis the advantageto him whotoilsfor the wind?
In the daythat you plant[it] you carefullyfence[it] in, And in the morningyou bringyour seedto blossom;[But] the harvestwill [be] a heapIn a dayof sicklinessand incurablepain.
"Whydo you spendmoneyfor what is not bread,And your wagesfor whatdoes not satisfy?Listencarefullyto Me, and eatwhatis good,And delightyourselfin abundance.
For behold,the LORDwill comein fireAnd His chariotslike the whirlwind,To renderHis angerwith fury,And His rebukewith flamesof fire.
"They have sownwheatand have reapedthorns,They have strainedthemselves to noprofit.But be ashamedof your harvestBecauseof the fierceangerof the LORD."
Our inheritancehas been turnedover to strangers,Our housesto aliens.
"Therefore,I will takebackMy grainat harvest timeAnd My newwinein its season.I will also takeawayMy wooland My flax[Given] to coverher nakedness.
Strangersdevourhis strength,Yet he does not know[it]; Grayhairsalsoare sprinkledon him, Yet he does not know[it].
Ephraimis stricken,their rootis driedup, They will bearnofruit.Eventhoughthey bearchildren, I will slaythe preciousonesof their womb.
The LORDis slowto angerand greatin power,And the LORDwill by nomeansleave[the guilty] unpunished.In whirlwindand stormis His way,And cloudsare the dustbeneath His feet.
"You have sownmuch,but harvestlittle;[you] eat,but [there is] not [enough] to be satisfied;[you] drink,but [there is] not [enough] to becomedrunk;[you] puton clothing,but nooneis warm[enough]; and he who earns,earnswages[to put] into a pursewith holes."
Do not be deceived,Godis not mocked;for whatevera mansows,thishe will alsoreap.
For the one who sowsto his ownfleshwill from the fleshreapcorruption,but the one who sowsto the Spiritwill from the Spiritreapeternallife.
"A peoplewhomyou do not knowshall eatup the produceof your groundand allyour labors,and you will neverbe anythingbut oppressedand crushedcontinually.
