"As for your adulteriesand your [lustful] neighings,The lewdnessof your prostitutionOn the hillsin the field,I have seenyour abominations.Woeto you, O Jerusalem!Howlongwill you remainunclean?"
Washyour heartfrom evil,O Jerusalem,That you may be saved.Howlongwill your wickedthoughtsLodgewithinyou?
"And Moabwill be ashamedof Chemosh,as the houseof Israelwas ashamedof Bethel,their confidence.
The inhabitantsof Samariawill fearFor the calfof Beth-aven.Indeed,its peoplewill mournfor it, And its idolatrouspriestswill cryout overit, Overits glory,sinceit has departedfrom it.
Also the highplacesof Aven,the sinof Israel,will be destroyed;Thornand thistlewill growon their altars;Then they will sayto the mountains,"Coverus!" And to the hills,"Fallon us!"
And nowthey sinmoreand more,And makefor themselves moltenimages,Idolsskillfullymade from their silver,Allof them the workof craftsmen.They sayof them, "Let the menwho sacrificekissthe calves!"
For from Israelis even this!A craftsmanmadeit, so it is not God;Surelythe calfof Samariawill be brokento pieces.
"[As for] those who swearby the guiltof Samaria,Who say,'As your godlives,O Dan,'And, 'As the wayof Beershebalives,'They will falland not riseagain."
Allof her idolswill be smashed,Allof her earningswill be burnedwith fireAnd allof her imagesI will makedesolate,For she collected[them] from a harlot'searnings,And to the earningsof a harlotthey will return.
"At that timethey made a calfand broughta sacrificeto the idol,and were rejoicingin the worksof their hands.
For a fireis kindledin My anger,And burnsto the lowestpartof Sheol,And consumesthe earthwith its yield,And setson firethe foundationsof the mountains.
