In the sixhundredthyearof Noah'slife,in the secondmonth,on the seventeenthdayof the month,on the samedayallthe fountainsof the greatdeepburstopen,and the floodgatesof the skywere opened.
Godmadethe expanse,and separatedthe waterswhichwere belowthe expansefrom the waterswhichwere abovethe expanse;and it was so.
"Behold,I, even I am bringingthe floodof waterupon the earth,to destroyallfleshin whichis the breathof life,from underheaven;everythingthat is on the earthshall perish.
Now Noahwas sixhundredyearsoldwhen the floodof watercameupon the earth.
In the secondmonth,on the twenty-seventhdayof the month,the earthwas dry.
Also the fountainsof the deepand the floodgatesof the skywere closed,and the rainfrom the skywas restrained;
Then the royalofficeransweredthe manof Godand said,"Now behold,if the LORDshould makewindowsin heaven,could sucha thingbe?" And he said,"Behold,you will seeit with your own eyes,but you will not eatof it."
The royalofficeron whosehandthe kingwas leaningansweredthe manof Godand said,"Behold,if the LORDshould makewindowsin heaven,could thisthingbe?" Then he said,"Behold,you will seeit with your own eyes,but you will not eatof it."
"Behold,He restrainsthe waters,and they dryup; And He sendsthem out, and they inundatethe earth.
"He sinksa shaftfar from habitation,Forgottenby the foot;They hangand swingto and frofar from men.
"Have you enteredinto the springsof the seaOr walkedin the recessesof the deep?
"Whocan countthe cloudsby wisdom,Or tipthe waterjarsof the heavens,
He gathersthe watersof the seatogether as a heap;He laysup the deepsin storehouses.
You brokeopenspringsand torrents;You driedup ever-flowingstreams.
By His knowledgethe deepswere brokenup And the skiesdripwith dew.
Then it will be that he who fleesthe reportof disasterwill fallinto the pit,And he who climbsout of the pitwill be caughtin the snare;For the windowsaboveare opened,and the foundationsof the earthshake.
The earthis brokenasunder,The earthis splitthrough,The earthis shakenviolently.
Do you not fearMe?' declaresthe LORD.'Do you not tremblein My presence?For I have placedthe sandas a boundaryfor the sea,An eternaldecree,so it cannotcrossoverit. Though the wavestoss,yet they cannotprevail;Though they roar,yet they cannotcrossoverit.
When He uttersHis voice,[there is] a tumultof watersin the heavens,And He causes the cloudsto ascendfrom the endof the earth;He makeslightningfor the rainAnd bringsforththe windfrom His storehouses.
For thussaysthe LordGOD,"When I makeyou a desolatecity,like the citieswhichare not inhabited,when I bringup the deepoveryou and the greatwaterscoveryou,
"Bringthe wholetitheinto the storehouse,so that there may be foodin My house,and testMe nowin this,"saysthe LORDof hosts,"ifI will not openfor you the windowsof heavenand pourout for you a blessinguntilit overflows.
"For as in thosedaysbeforethe floodthey were eatingand drinking,marryingand giving in marriage,untilthe daythat Noahenteredthe ark,
Whilethey are saying,"Peaceand safety!"thendestructionwill comeupon them suddenlylikelabor painsupon a woman with child,and they will not escape.
throughwhichthe worldat that timewas destroyed,being floodedwith water.
