"Whena mantakesa wifeand marriesher, and it happensthat she findsnofavorin his eyesbecausehe has foundsomeindecencyin her, and he writesher a certificateof divorceand puts[it] in her handand sendsher out from his house,
"Ifhe takesto himself anotherwoman,he may not reduceher food,her clothing,or her conjugalrights.
Thussaysthe LORD,"Whereis the certificateof divorceBy whichI have sentyour motheraway?Orto whomof My creditorsdid I sellyou? Behold,you were soldfor your iniquities,And for your transgressionsyour motherwas sentaway.
[God] says,"Ifa husbanddivorceshis wifeAnd she goesfrom him And belongsto anotherman,Will he stillreturnto her? Will not that landbe completelypolluted?But you are a harlot[with] manylovers;Yet you turnto Me," declaresthe LORD.
"And I sawthat for allthe adulteriesof faithlessIsrael,I had senther awayand givenher a writof divorce,yet her treacheroussisterJudahdid not fear;but she wentand was a harlotalso.
"For I hatedivorce,"saysthe LORD,the Godof Israel,"and him who covershis garmentwith wrong,"saysthe LORDof hosts."So takeheedto your spirit,that you do not dealtreacherously."
"Speakto the sonsof Israeland sayto them, 'Ifanyman'swifegoesastrayand is unfaithfulto him,
But ifthe womanhas not defiledherself and is clean,she will then be freeand conceivechildren.
And Josephher husband,beinga righteous manand not wantingto disgraceher, plannedto send her awaysecretly.
"Everyonewho divorceshis wifeand marriesanothercommitsadultery,and he who marriesone who is divorcedfrom a husbandcommits adultery.
"Ifa manhastwowives,the onelovedand the otherunloved,and [both] the lovedand the unlovedhave bornehim sons,if the firstbornsonbelongs to the unloved,
"Ifanymantakesa wifeand goesin to her and [then] turnsagainsther,
and they shall finehim a hundred[shekels] of silverand giveit to the girl'sfather,becausehe publiclydefameda virginof Israel.And she shall remainhis wife;he cannotdivorceher allhis days.
then the manwho laywith her shall giveto the girl'sfatherfifty[shekels] of silver,and she shall becomehis wifebecausehe has violatedher; he cannotdivorceher allhis days.
and she leaveshis houseand goesand becomesanotherman's[wife],
and if the latterhusbandturnsagainsther and writesher a certificateof divorceand puts[it] in her handand sendsher out of his house,orifthe latterhusbanddieswhotookher to be his wife,
